1. Less Irritating/Annoying Ad Distribution

   I know that twitch has been looking into ways to get around AdBlock and whatnot to ensure that ads get played, but: Consider less intrusive/annoying/irritating advertising. The majority of people are using AdBlock because they find ads annoying. You know, that stereotype CONGRATS YOU'VE WON A FREE PRIZE!!! flashing ad kind of thing?

   If you were to make twitch advertising less intrusive, I believe it would help. Twitch ads already aren't that bad, but they could be improved in a number of possible ways:

   • Make the advertisement only hijack the video feed, not the audio. With the advertisements jumping into both the audio and the video, there is a disconnect. Viewers come back into the stream after the advertisement is over going "Wait, what happened? What did you say?" and streamers have to repeat themselves or explain what just happened. Like, take Pokémon Shiny Hunting or Wifi Battling: If a streamer finds the shiny or somehow has a great comeback, the audience is going to miss that and say, "Wait, you got it? :/" Maintaining the audio feed allows for some reduced level of connectivity and immersion while at the same time allows for advertisements to come through.

   • Text-based pop-ups, like on youtube. You know those little grey rectangles that pop up on youtube that you can just x your way through? Have those, but maybe even disable Xing out of them for thirty seconds or whatnot. A small grey box isn't that bad; maybe it's not worth as much and thus can have a higher frequency of appearing, but I'd definitely be willing to sit through more of those than normal advertisements.

   • Select preferred advertisers. An ad isn't very effective (or even worse, counterproductive) when it's thrust in the face of someone who doesn't exactly care for or dislikes what the ad is showing. Like, no, no matter how many times you stick LOL in my face, I'm... Just not interested. But if it's for, say, Pokémon or Nintendo in general, I'm more "Yeah, okay" in regards to the ad. It's just a more positive experience to see what you want: If we have to have ads (and really, they are not that bad, and it keeps people in their homes and fed, so we kind of do), I would be much much less annoyed if I had my choice of what kind of advertising I would want shown to me. Show me what I want, and it makes it a more pleasant experience. Have a checklist or drop-down in a user settings page to allow people to opt into getting certain company ads targetted at them. (Like, Nintendo ads, Sony ads, Microsoft ads, etc.)

   Again, ads are not Bad: They keep people paid. It's either ads or total 100% subscription only services. And twitch is great as a platform and as a company. But I just think there's still room to make even ads a more positive experience. (Like, how many places can you say, Even the advertising is okay?) Idk. I want to support my favourite streamers, but sometimes it's like, Come on, I don't want to see this :( There's definitely still room to grow.

2. Option to Disable Ad-Revenue share

   Hey Twitch team. The possibility to get a share of the ad revenue is a great feature. Unfortunately this can make everything around streaming (Taxes etc.) complicated. Where I'm from (Austria) an ad revenue makes everything much more complicated (I don´t go into detail here). So a option to opt out from this share would be great to have.
   Probably there are similar cases for other country. And even if not, this would help most of the Austrian creators.

3. Disabled Accessibility: please put ads beneath the video player without resizing stream video

   Can Twitch please display the ads beneath the video player without the motion transition resizing the stream video to be more disability accessible for people with visual sensitivities and for people who rely on closed captioning/ subtitles?

4. Tools needed for Midroll

   If you are going to have midrolls you need to provide us tools to work with the midrolls as best we can as creators. Enough people have given you a reason it is a bad idea. I am offering up ideas to make it at least workable if you continue this route.

   • We need a countdown on the streamer dash and the mod view on when the next ad will roll. Like a producer would have.
   • We need a limited ability to push back an adroll. Like a one time 2 minute snooze button, or a trigger early button.
   • We need an API triggered event when an ad runs so that we can use our bots to let us know, so we can wait on what we are doing.
   • The ONLY reason I would want this is to eliminate preroll ads. If you aren't eliminating preroll just don't bother.

   If you are going to have midrolls you need to provide us tools to work with the midrolls as best we can as creators. Enough people have given you a reason it is a bad idea. I am offering up ideas to make it at least workable if you continue this route.

5. Ad Incentive Program - Offer Negotiation

   I have been a part of the Ad Incentive Program since March-April of this year trying various ad lengths and seeing the consequences of longer ad running times. For context I have been Streaming on the platform full time since early 2019.

   One major perk to any level of Ad Program offer is that Streaming has become more sustainable for specific partners like myself.

   A major issue is that offers CANNOT be renegotiated. If you receive an offer for 1 min, 2 mins, 3 mins per hour one month, your next month could be a minimum of 5 mins per hour ranging up to 10 minutes.

   For content creators that don't ever plan to create content that allows for this many ads per hour to fit nicely, this becomes an issue. (Especially for people who want to still utilize the program's offers)

   For example, this month my minimum offer is 7 mins of ads per hour, where I would prefer the same revenue rate at a lower number of minutes per hour.

   Without a renegotiation feature I can no longer utilize the program, due to its extreme requirements being a minimum of 7 mins per hour.

   Renegotiating will help both Twitch and its Ad Incentive Program users, since more offers could be accepted and catered to the styles/types of content the creator intends to pursue during the next month. More ads will then be run on the site, benefiting Twitch and its partners.

   This "take it or leave it" offer is very unappealing when they are always random feeling, with no way to maintain a schedule with ads.

6. Revert back to the old system

   Simple put, this system is poorly designed and problematic. What it creates is a system where only the larger creators will see any amount of money, due to how low of value a single bit is. The creator you show on the help page only gets 5 bucks. My problem with this feature is that it doesn't address any of the problems with regular bits, and allows for even easier abuse of the system, unless you have extra stuff in place to decide who's vote counts for bits, will mean that people could bot their stream and get a ton of extra bits from a vote. This will mean streamers who usually have only a few viewers will never see any income from bits that people get from free. I'll admit, I use my ad bits to give them to streamers who I like who usually don't get a whole lot of viewers on average. Bits are already a flawed system that people don't really use because only a portion of the money is given to a streamer, as you take a cut of it, using a donation link in someone's subscription is better than buying bits, and that's the underlying problem with this system. Please revert back to the old system of ads, and fix its problems, instead of implementing a system that will only benefit large creators.

7. Remove message saying the streamer is "taking an ad break".

   Stop falsely claiming the streamer is "taking an ad break" when they're automated ads that the streamer has no idea are playing. I get that phrasing it that way moves the pressure (and to some, blame) off of Twitch and onto the streamer, but it's a blatant lie that has no business being there.

9. Freezing adds prevent me from watching streams

   Not sure if I'm the only one who has this problem. I can't watch any stream that has adds enabled because the add freezes after 5 seconds and the timer doesn't update/go down. I restarted my pc but the problem remains (Using twitch for many years but never had this problem).

11. Rework the Ad Incentive Program

    Currently, the Ad Incentive Program presents you three offers every month. It's on a take it or leave it basis. I find there is a big issue with this though. The amount of money you are offered is fine. The amount of hours you are required to stream for a month is fine. The thing that doesn't make sense is the amount of minutes of ads per hour you are required to run.

    I have received offers in two months now where the lowest ads per hour requirement was 4 minutes, and I have even seen some people with their lowest being 7 minutes. This creates two problems. Some people may be willing to run ads, but they aren't willing to run THAT MANY ads. It seems counterintuitive to require them to run too many ads per hour, such that they just decide to decline it and run no ads that month.

    The second issue is the longest time an ad break can be ran for is 3 minutes. It works really well to just take a break from the stream once per hour while the ads are playing, so that no one misses any of the content from the stream. When the minimum ad incentive offer is over 3 minutes of ads per hour, it is impossible to just take a single ad break per hour. For example, with 4 minutes per hour, I am required to take two 2 minute ad breaks every hour. It just doesn't feel right to take a break from the stream every half hour, so I end up having ads playing while I am presenting content.

    I think a better way for this program to work is as follows. When you receive your Ad Incentive Program offer, it will give you the hours required to stream that month, along with a price per (minute per hour) of ads. Then you can choose how many minutes of ads per hour you wish to run that month. For example, it may say stream for 100 hours at a rate of $100 per (minute per hour) of ads. So I can choose to run 3 minutes of ads per hour to earn $300 in that month, or only run 1 minute of ads per hour to earn $100 that month. Or I could even choose to run 10 minutes of ads per hour to earn $1000 that month.

    I do think the Ad Incentive Program has been helpful for earning more revenue as a streamer, but it's still not ideal. This change would at least give a bit more control to creators as to how they run their stream.

    Everytime after a add is rolled, when it is over the stream comes back muted, and is really annoying having to got back and unmute the stream.

13. More Streamer Ad Options

    As a streamer myself I understand that people like their own Twitch page to be theirs to control. A lot of people disable ads on their own channel and a lot will also run them willingly while streaming. Try giving more options we can opt into on our own channels. Without blocking our content at the same time, unless we choose to do so. Here's an idea or so:

    • Brb ads
      (We already have, and do get used. Nice example to start)

    • Lower thirds
      (Could allow us to set them to pop up as often as we like. Minimum of every X minutes that you (Twitch) can make a pre requisite for signing up.)

    • Chatbox ads
      (For me personally, my average chatbox can show roughly 20 messages. Will be different for everyone with resolutions and zoom. We don't NEED to see those messages all the time. We've already read the ones at the top. Add an option where occasionally the top half of the box contains an ad.)

    • Ads for channel points
      (I understand that the bit ads actually cost you too. With bits being a real currency. However, channel points are just data. Totally free on your end (I assume). Why not offer people an option to boost channel points with an ad? In fact I'll take this one slightly further. EVERYONE loves emotes. We all strive to unlock as many as we can! If we could make community pools where the viewers work together to hit a goal that could unlock emote slots! This way it costs nobody anything. And we all win. Granted, there are viewers who already have a ton of channel points. This may ruin it. If that's a big issue then make a second set of points. Name them ad points and only allow those to be used.)

    • Panel Ads
      (We all have panels below our streams, and yes they don't get seen all too often. But they are there. use them, offer us to have an ad space down there with our other tabs. These are probably my weakest idea but it's worth a shot.)

    • Ad timer
      (If you do keep the mid-roll ads, stick a timer on screen a minute in advance. Inform us "Ad running in 0:59", This allows us to prepare for it an advance. Pause our games, move to a intermission screen, whatever it may be. At least this way they don't pop out of nowhere and people miss you getting the final blow on the hard mode boss you've been grinding for over 3 days)

14. Enable picture by picture for pre-rolls

    Please enable picture by picture for pre-roll ads. I'm a small streamer and I feel a lot of people aren't willing to sit through a 30s or longer ad break just to see if my stream quality is good or chat is active or if the preview image is accurate to what I'm actually doing on stream. Picture by picture would fix this by enabling them to check out the stream and chat whilst the ad plays in the main view.

15. stop displaying the same ad over and over again, even without any targeting at all.

    99.9% of all twitch ads are just annoyances to me, mainly because they are untargeted and I don't care about their content at all. I always get movie ads. And I never watch movies. I suggest twitch reworks its subscriber system: make it like ISPs do it to provide internet access: 5 bucks a month flat, no ads, a portion goes to individual streamers based on view time.

16. Ad volume consistently resets between ads

    Everytime a series of ads run on twitch, the volume resets after every ad to an absurdily high volume. If I set the volume down to 0 or 1%, with the original stream volume being at say 50%, the volume of the ad resets to 50% every ad.
    Stupidly annoying.

18. Add 'delay' option for when ads pop up at critical moments

    I understand that ads are necessary to support twitch and streamers, and while I don't like it, I can deal with it. But one thing is SUPER annoying - when an ad pops up right when something exciting is happening/about to happen and everyone misses the action. At least TV ads have the courtesy to play during breaks - imagine if an ad came on while the super bowl-winning touchdown pass was in the air!

    If we can't outright remove or skip ads (understandable), how about having a simple button pop up in a corner of the stream when an ad plays labeled 'delay' that temporarily dismisses the ad or ad series and sets it to come back in 3-5 minutes or so. (The button would not be present the second time, so you can't just keep delaying forever.) This way twitch still gets its ad viewing time, but viewers can at least try to prevent it from hijacking the stream at exactly the wrong moment.

19. Disable ads when entering a new stream.

    Nobody wants to see an Ad right as they enter a new stream. If they click on a stream from the main page or from a raid, nobody wants to watch it immediately. Me personally I exit as fast as I can and go watch someone else instead of ads. Viewers would be more inclined to stay around if watching ads wasn’t the first thing they got.

20. Custom image with Stream Display Ads

    Where the black space is on Stream Display Ads, let broadcasters upload their own custom images depending on if the content is live, vod, or a rerun.

    Would help with channel branding, call to actions, and clear identity of content.
