  1. Nobody wants to watch random ads that block out the stream. Picture-in-picture doesn't work if we only see but not hear the stream during ads. Banners would solve the problem - you get to give us more ads but the stream doesn't get interrupted. I repeat: nobody needs random ads that block the stream. it's not only disruptive for the viewers, but also for the streamer. bad idea, really.

  2. Dear Twitch,

I think I speak for most of the streaming community when I say we do NOT like your new mid-roll strategy. Ads are among the biggest annoyances on the site and the solution is not to give us more ads. Here are some ideas on making ads on Twitch better for both the creator and the viewer.

    1. Give the creators an actual cut of the ad revenue
Right now, this is absolutely peanuts when you compare it to other video content sites, it’s actually insane. This would make running ads also a bit more attractive for creators and…

  3. Interrupting streamers' streams with an ad randomly without any semblance of their own control is going to ruin a LOT of clippable moments in streams, as well as push viewers away from many smaller streamers, which could seriously damage their livelihoods.

Instead of this forceful approach to increasing the amount of ads, you can reward streamers who frequently and consistently play ads with more emote slots that will only stay if said streamer keeps their ad playing frequent and consistent.

  4. If you are going to have midrolls you need to provide us tools to work with the midrolls as best we can as creators. Enough people have given you a reason it is a bad idea. I am offering up ideas to make it at least workable if you continue this route.

    • We need a countdown on the streamer dash and the mod view on when the next ad will roll. Like a producer would have.

    • We need a limited ability to push back an adroll. Like a one time 2 minute snooze button, or a trigger early button.

    • We…

  5. You are driving your userbase away by forcing unskippable 30 second ads every time we click on a stream to see if it's interesting. Instead of branching out to other streamers I would rather stay in the channels I sub to so I don't have to deal with ads, or just stop watching twitch entirely.

  6. Pretty much as it says in the title. Interrupting live content is the most patently stupid way of going about this. I suggest the following:
    1. Make the forced mid rolls use the smaller picture-by-picture player and make them silent so the stream doesn't need to be muted.
    2. Use banner ads instead.
    3. Pause the live stream in the background while the ad plays so that viewers don't miss anything.
    4. Abandon the idea altogether.
    5. Give creators full control of when they play and what ads get played.

  7. Either bring back ad-free twitch viewing from prime members, or lower Twitch turbo price. Twitch turbo is about $110 a year and all it really offers is ad free twitch. Which is way to expensive.

  8. Obviously we don't want Twitch to lose money and die out like other streaming platforms. The ads are a necessary evil. Let streamers control when the ads drop during the stream. Give them a requirement for how many ads have to be run per hour, or whatever the terms are, but let them determine when they run. Bathroom & food breaks would be ideal. Some streamers find the beginning of the stream critical, so running pre-roll is a bad idea for them. If the streamer doesn't run the required number of ads, hit them where it hurts - their wallets.…

  9. Give broadcasters the choice of what type of ads to play (political, beauty, sports, etc.) And make it so broadcaster-run ads disable random ads for longer periods of time.

That way the streamer is in control of their cast

  10. Don't roll ad clips, put in ad banners and little windows within the stream. It doesn't interrupt the stream completely and everyone can see a d recognize it!
Nice, clean and simple for broadcaster and viewers.

  11. Voting is integrated into Twitch chat. When there are ads to be played, let the viewers decide which one(s) should play. This weeds out ads which the viewers of a channel don't like or have seen too often, and it will give Twitch useful feedback on the longevity and/or interest level of ads to take back to advertisers.

To avoid spamming the chat with polls, the results of an ad poll will apply to any ads played on the channel for at least two hours.

  12. make the ads appear at the top of chat, or under the stream like a banner,
it doesnt need to be loud or anything just have it pop in occasionally, that plus streamers putting ads when on break should make up for the avenue you would get for just random ads.

  13. I dont want to see ads. I will leave your site forever before watching ads. I sub to some streamers. I donate to some streamers. You don't need to greedily triple dip.

I have had a twitch account for 7 years. Ive spent hundreds if not thousands of dollars here. I havent watched very much in the last month because I am bombarded with ads if my main streamers arent streaming.

  14. Plz stop making me watch 6 ads in a row. It is very simple. It is absolutely ridiculous that I should have to sit thru 6 ads whenever a streamer decides to run some ads... 6 ads? are you actually kidding me? that is absolutely absurd... If you think that the way you treat people is okay... you got another thing coming, People will not sit thru that and neither will I. About 2 seconds from just stopping using twitch purely out of morals... You probably think I don't matter, I'm sure. But you better believe more will follow... Not

  16. Part of the issue that the currently implementation of ads completely passes over is audio. Twitch did a lot of work to add this new picture-in-picture mode, that moves the stream above chat, so the audience isn't "missing" anything. However this is a flawed idea.

You see, visuals to a stream are only 50% at a maximum and can be even less depending on the content. That's where audio and interaction come in. A large number of viewers come to interact with streamers. They come to see and hear the streamers reactions to awesome moments in games, esports, announcements. They…

  18. Had this idea, didn't really know where else to post it. Just trying to get it out there.

So I know Twitch has been struggling to come up with a way to monetize with ads, and with the whole "forced mid-roll" fiasco, I think everyone is worried that whatever they do will be very "un-Twitch" by trying to emulate live TV. So my idea was to just gamify it.

Twitch recently added the little icon dudes that everyone can choose as their logo, and I thought that could be like your Twitch persona, and you basically just turn ad watching…

  19. It feels counterintuitive from a creator stand point. Though I appreciate the stance of supporting creators, there must be better ways to implement paid ads. Personally, I'd love to see a system in place that connects partnered streamers to advertisers through some sort of partner panel. Plenty of streamers do paid ads already, but if you connect a streamer to a physical product to try on stream (a drink, snack, service, etc.) It's more interactive for the audience, and the streamer. Effectively stream lining your advertising practice, and through that service you would be able to still collect revenue of…
