IP Ban from channel
IP Ban makes it possible to permanently ban a user with the same IP Address, thus not allowing them to crate other account to try and troll/spam, etc.
We apply IP bans in Chat based on users' Moderation actions in certain cases. We don't currently plan to publicize the logic we use because we think it would make it easier for bad actors to bypass the restriction.

I know that this is probably a dumb question, but is there a way to IP ban someone that is in your chat room. Recently I've been having a bit of a problem with a "viewer" of mine coming onto my stream chat and saying some very inappropriate things that I and I'm sure others wouldn't want to see in their stream chat. I timed him out the first time, the second time I banned him, and he goes off and makes another account so he can proceed with the unwanted content. I then ban that account and rinse and repeat. So I was wondering if there was a way to IP ban and how.

I got a kid doing the same stuff ppl r saying below, spending hours making vulgar names to try and troll. Has happened for two days now. So far he has exhibited acts that are grounds for: harrasment, racial slurs, and intent on bodly harm. So at points twitch needs to step in despite there would be costs and do the ip bans from twitch, not just the channel.

So this hasn't been mentioned yet, but there are other reasons why IP bans are rather useless against dedicated trolls. People can mask their original IP address behind VPNs and proxy servers, or by using such as Tor to hide their original IP address.
IP bans are not a magic silver bullet. Sometimes they might stop a troll dead in his tracks, but it won't stop all trolls competely.

I consider it because I'm being stalked by someone who made multiple twitch accounts to harass me and I had them banned from the chat and reported them but they still do it anyway for the sake of trouble. I wish something can be done.

I agree withe the previous poster. I think there should be a three strikes policy on bans. As if the user is on a static IP.Then whoever uses that same IP is also banned.
This way issues which may have been abuses by mods. Can be resolved by the streamer I also agree with a 24 hour ban policy. This way one person doesn't hurt everyone else.
If your using a pubic university or collage IP. That can be a pretty significant problem. When a loss of traffic can be affected by just one bad mod. Which was having a bad bad, just saying.

I agree as i got banned from a mod likely. For doing nothing other then supporting a streamer which was getting trolled.
Sure i made a few multiple posts. But for crying out loud. A mod should have better reasons to ban someone then supporting the streamer.
This streamer furthermore hardly ever bans anyone. So really there needs to be something in place. So mods themselves don't abuse the system.
I am attempting to contact the streamer to inform them of the situation. As i don't think they were even aware of it.

I highly recommend consideration of this feature. It's too easy (and I just experienced it 5 minutes ago), where a single troll uses a series of (obviously scripted) accounts to non-stop spam a stream. Account bans were completely un-helpful.
If some sort of command like /ipban was exposed, that did NOT expose the actual IP to the mod/streamer, it would allow a per-stream safe ip-ban capability.
Then you could either leave it to the stream to re-allow, or implement an automatic time-out of the ban, or both.

If the Twitch devs won't implement this feature because banning IP addresses is hard, then I have a different solution. Instead of playing whack-a-mole by banning specific IP addresses, just ban ALL users that match a certain criteria that doesn't depend on IP address. Uh, I forgot to add my reasoning to my last comment. I wanted to add that, although a temporary ban wouldn't stop a troll completely, it could be used to make it significantly harder for them to troll, at the cost of a slight(?) inconvenience to non-troll users at a certain IP address.

Rather than permanently banning an IP address from using chat, whispering people, and creating new accounts, how about using a *temporary* ban, such as a day? Anyone trying to sign up for a new account at the banned IP address would see a message displayed that goes something along the lines of
> This IP address is blocked from creating new accounts for the next X hours due to recent abuse.
Stack Exchange frequently uses rate-limiting of various activities from certain IP addresses and users,
1. http://meta.stackoverflow.com/a/259942/456814
2. http://meta.stackexchange.com/a/234518/163250and those are only *a few* of the posts their about it.

If someone with different accounts keep coming into chat, that's ban evading. Report each account as they come in and the admins will catch on quick, probably global banning them and their IP.
I'm not on staff so I'm not 100% on this, if Xangold could confirm/deny.

With great power comes great responsibility! It's too risky, while it may help in some cases, it's way too risky and there is no real safe way of doing this. That power should stay with Admins, Global Moderators, and staff members ONLY! Because let's say you say something that a streamer doesn't like. Let's say you simply make a comment that's completely harmless, but the streamer doesn't like it and then BOOM your IP banned. That's not something that should happen. Let the people that Twitch trusts with their lives handle that one

@Anonymous below: That only changes your internal IP if you are behind a router/modem. Your external IP will not change, and even then most Internet Service Providers will keep your IP cached for a week or so. If you "renew" within that period, you will get your old IP back.

Yeah, so. Here's how you change your IP.
open command prompt (cmd.exe)
type /ipconfig
you will see your IP and other crapgo /ipconfig release
/ipconfig renew
/flushdns
restart computer, wait a little while (exactly 1 little while, no more, no less)
boom. IP changed. wb

That wont stop the trolls, they can always reset the modem to get a new IP or enter the site using proxy.
