  1. Add information about if a game is on/included in a subscription service.

Such as gamepass or stadia (included with the stadia sub)

And if a removal date exists (as games will leave gamepass)

  2. It would be great if the API returned which company worked on which platform, for example Company A worked on platforms X, Y and Company B on platform Z. This information is visible on the edit page on IGDB, but not via the API (should presumably be included in the "involved companies" endpoint).

  3. I wasn't sure what to use for this and I think that's the point. Puzzle titles like Tetris, Pong, Breakout, and the like are very hard to define in terms of a Theme based on the choices available.

An Abstract Theme might be the best case in these situations.

Hi! We talked about adding this theme, and we all agreed that it's a good idea. We just have to write clear guidelines around it. We are looking to add this as soon as possible. Thanks!

  4. This feels topical...

So, when an entry/game submission or edit is rejected and discarded, it's kind of all-or-nothing. If one major thing is wrong with the edit, often the entire submission has to be rejected, just for practical reasons.

It might be beneficial if Admins had the option to select sections of a submission to reject, like Title renames, content deletion, or bad cover art changes while the rest can be approved without the entire entry to be resubmitted..

That is absolutely correct, and the right way to have in the long term.
It is however a very complex and time consuming engineering project, and has been postponed due to priority and need to have basis.

That we’ll eventually tackle it is likely, but not in the near future.

  5. There could be a way to link a game to another as a sequel or prequel, what would be good for game series like Metal Gear and The Legend of Zelda, for example. In the game page, there could be a place saying "Sequel to "game X" and "Prequel of "game Y".

Hey! we had a chat about this internally and landed on the fact it could become problematic, so we wanted to double check your suggestion in more details.
How would we define the order within a series? As this could be seen either as chronologically by release, or by story.

For example, MGS3 being the first one in the story, yet the 3rd one by release date. This could prove very divisive either way.

Another issue that could be problematic are differences in the order by region. Final Fantasy is an infamous case, where FFVI was released as FFIII in North America for example.

Was this the sort of approach you had in mind with such a feature? Let us know :)

  6. There are many games that ended up becoming a different game, or with prototypes so different from the official release that deserve a main entry in the database, but now there's no right way to link them (the datatypes now don't match this description, and the versions are likely to be used only to editions). A few wxamples:

    EarthBound 64 / Mother 3
    Gimmick Land / Tomato Adventure
Donkey Kong Racing / Sabreman Stampede
    Rayman SNES / Rayman

  7. Previously, I had been able to submit coverart for games on Twitch via a form located on the Twitch support website. This was a critical feature of Twitch to ensure that smaller and/or older games on the Twitch platform wouldn't be left with incorrect or generic artwork. However, as of late, my submissions of coverart via the form have gone unanswered, and the link to the form has been removed from Twitch's support site as well.

For context, the form is located here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeHi3k8F8Vmu_uayd-ynHWh0fZ8O5FkAc3Smp4lJrj6r-I5eg/viewform

And it was referenced on this support page: https://help.twitch.tv/s/article/adding-a-game-and-box-art-to-the-directory?language=en_US

In the past, similar issues have occurred…

    Hey there!

Could you clarity what do you mean by data in this case, is it to do with the lists and ratings in particular?

Curious to learn more about such a use case, is there a particular need to re-upload the exported CSV or Excel document rather than use the website?

    Thanks!

  10. Currently, the basic search algorithm on IGDB seems to value popularity over anything -- even the title of the game being searched.
When I searched for "Persona 2", it being a 2-part game, the games "Persona 2: Innocent Sin" and "Persona 2: Eternal Punishment" appear as the 16th and 19th entries down the list respectively, while "Persona 5", by dar the most popular game in the series, showed up first.
The algorithm needs to prioritize the search input much more than it currently does, as the current system renders inputting sequel or series entry numbers (2, 5 etc.) quite useless.

  11. Maybe this is just me, but I almost always miss something when I edit, update or submit a New Game, and never see it until I see the full list of changes on the Pending Submission page.

It might help to have an "Are you sure?" page between Previewing all Changes and Submit/Update.

There’s a good suggestion here, although it could also add some friction. In particular for users doing a lot of edits in a row.

Adding a page between would add extra pages and clicks, making the contribution flow slower.

I would picture more like having a recap visible at all times through in the sidebar maybe, somewhat like an online store shopping cart (-Cover, Keywords X2, Genre, Screenshots X5 etc..).

  12. Have more options in the personalise home screen that change the categories that show, and maybe change the locations like widgets.

Bee able to see suggested games (based on ratings), see karma hunter categories (missing credits, missing screenshots), be able to make the coming soon big like the popular games right now etc.

    Hey!

Awesome suggestion thank you. Revisiting the homepage is definitely planned in the future. Right now we do have filters by platforms that will impact the games reviewed and the coming soon/recently released sections.

Being able to showcase more community driven games, such as rated, reviewed or contributed is definitely one good option.

We’ll have announcements when we return to this! thanks

  13. There is already a wealth of video types one can choose from when uploading a video related to a game, but commercials for a game are not included. These commercials often give an insight into the culture of the era in which the game was released, or occasionally have some lore or culture of their own.

    Hey!
Good news! We discussed this internally, and thought it would indeed be a great addition!

We’ll be adding a new category for our videos labeled Commercial Trailer.

We’ll be in touch once it’s done and live! Thanks again for the suggestion :)

In addition to Steam and mobile platforms, links to the web storefronts of additional platforms would be helpful.

    Heya!
Update on this, we identified one possible issue which is that unlike PC stores, most console links are region specific.
So we’re investigating how we could either generalised them or whether we’d introduce this when we tackle localization of IGDB.
    Stay tuned!

  18. Hi,
recently a super-admin had to merge two games wich actually was the same game, which just changed name and modality meantime.

In the fact I'm talking about Pagan Online (Action-RPG MMO) which became Pagan Absent Gods (Action-RPG Single Player).

While before they were registered as two different games, with two different pages, now they got merged as single page on Pagan Online's page (renaming the game), marking Pagan Absent Gods' old page as dupicate.

The consequences of the merging, anyway, are doubtful, because:

    • In IGDB website: if you search both for Pagan Online or for Pagan: Absent Gods, you…

  19. I have been a huge fan of your site and contributed with game additions. The prospect of having a fully functional and well supported IMDB for games was such a great idea. Unfortunately, since Twitch took over the platform, everything has come to a halt and It seems like Twitch only bought the site and it's userbase and never had any intend of developing the site further. Apps are no longer worked on, the site is buggy and you cannot even maintain a wishlist without any technical issues. It's a shame really to see this potential and love of every…

Heya! Thank you for the honest feedback, it does mean a lot and we totally understand such frustrations. I can add some context on where IGDB is at the moment, but first i can say that it is absolutely still our plan to return to the website development and just like you the team is very eager to improve on the potential it has :)

An acquisition is a complex matter from an engineering perspective, from months prior the public announcement we had set deadlines to migrate infrastructure, services, security systems etc.. to align with our new teams. That took significant time and effort, during which we had to put development of the website on hold beyond basic maintenance (unfortunately). Once done we decided to focus on growth of our core product as a database. Which is why the main product updates we made have been around our contributing users,…
