IGDB

How it works:
  • Choose a relevant category for your idea and check to see if any other users have already submitted this suggestion before creating your own
  • Be clear with your suggestion, provide examples and solutions to the problem you are posing. Suggestions without actionable feedback may be closed without comment
  • Upvote existing ideas, as opposed to creating multiple similar requests
  • Be sure to share your suggestion with others to gain more support!
  • Note: Suggestions are not guarantees that we will take action on an idea. We will try our best to communicate why an idea may not work, but may not always be able to share that information.
  • Titles that are unclear or unnecessarily vulgar may be reworded to better reflect the request for ease of discovery

If you need help:
This forum is for ideas only. If you need help, please check out our help portal for tons of articles that may answer your questions. If you still need help, you can reach out to our support team in the help portal as well!

Appeals or commentary on suspension decisions, support requests, suggestions disparaging others, and non-constructive feedback will be closed without comment.

  4. It would be great if the API returned which company worked on which platform, for example Company A worked on platforms X, Y and Company B on platform Z. This information is visible on the edit page on IGDB, but not via the API (should presumably be included in the "involved companies" endpoint).

  5. Allow fetching detail rating breakdowns; ie the data that drives the below image on the website;

    https://www.igdb.com/games/horizon-zero-dawn-complete-edition/rating_breakdown.svg

    The level of detail presented in the chart is sufficient, ie, number of ratings at each level of ratings, example output below;

    {
    "ratings": [
    {
    "ratingname": "Superb",
    "rating
    count": 10,
    "ratingvalue": 10
    },
    {
    "rating
    name": "Great",
    "ratingcount": 100,
    "rating
    value": 9
    },
    {
    "ratingname": "Good",
    "rating
    count": 1000,
    "ratingvalue": 8
    },
    {
    "rating
    name": "etc",
    "ratingcount": 120,
    "rating
    value": 7
    }
    ]
    }

    Other note: underscores for italic formatting is annoying. :)

  6. Hello!
    I've been working on a project wrapping the IGDB API into Rust language code:

    https://github.com/yurypcf/igdb

    It's a open source project, and it's working pretty well.
    I'm planning to contribute consistently. I'd appreciate a documentation update in the section WRAPPERS of the IGDB official API reference with the project repository. Thanks!

  8. Would it be possible to provide an API for unvalidated changes? Either as a separate endpoint (https://api.igdb.com/v4/validations), or a different namespace for the same endpoints (https://api.igdb.com/v4/games/unvalidated).
    One use case is that I want my admins to propose the changes directly to you but I want to display them on my website immediately.
    Another use case is that I have other data which I need to link to IGDB items that are not yet validated. E.g. https://trendingnow.games/upcoming links https://store.steampowered.com/app/3897800/ which is available as https://www.igdb.com/games/poker-night-at-the-inventory--1/changes but not yet validated.
    This endpoint should have a user ID proposing the…

  9. So with the rise of video game recompilations and decompilations, we've begun to see unofficial PC ports of titles previously exclusive to consoles. Currently a game can only be categorized as a port if it's officially made but these unofficial ports have to be classified as "mods" which doesn't really accurately describe what it is. I'd like to see unofficial port added to game categories to more accurately categorize recompilations and decompilations. Some examples include but aren't limited to the Ocarina of Time PC port, the Super Mario 64 PC port and the recently released Sonic Unleashed recompilation, Unleashed Recompiled…

  10. I'm experimenting with the image api. I would like to get the size of the image before downloading it to be able to calculate downloaded percentage from it.

    Currently this is not possible as the api doesn't send the Content-Length in the header. Requesting the image https://images.igdb.com/igdb/image/upload/t_1080p_2x/ar4v3.jpg using Postman I have the below headers:

    {
    "Content-Type": "image/jpeg",
    "Transfer-Encoding": "chunked",
    "Connection": "keep-alive",
    "Date": "Sat, 14 Sep 2024 04:14:23 GMT",

  11. I looked in the API documentation, but didn't see this. If I'm mistaken, please point me in the right direction!

    A create game endpoint would streamline the game submission process. This would help with smaller indie web-based, browser games.

  12. Arcade or console games usually have an internal serial
    e.g. http://redump.org/discs/system/naomi/

    And different port of the same game would have its unique serial on different platforms

  13. take this json response for example:

    {
                    "id": 3183491,
                    "uid": "1725510",
                    "external_game_source": {
                        "id": 1,
                        "name": "Steam"
                    }
                },
                {
                    "id": 214838,
                    "uid": "678950",
                    "external_game_source": {
                        "id": 1,
                        "name": "Steam"
                    }
                },

    this is Dragon Ball FighterZ, if we expand external_games, we can see there's 2 entries for Steam, but only the second one is valid (and some games, like Street Fighter 6, only the first one is valid).

    I suggest a field status or something, that indicates this entry does not lead anywhere, like that:

    {
                    "id": 3183491,
                    "uid": "1725510",
                    "external_game_source": {
                        "id": 1,
                        "name": "Steam"
                    }
                },
                {
    …

  15. The Suggestion:
    I would like to suggest that IGDB includes two specific fields in the JSON payload of every webhook: the operation type (create, update, or delete) and the source endpoint name (e.g., games, covers, etc.).

    The Problem:
    Currently, to differentiate between different entities and operations, I have to set up a unique listener URL for every combination of endpoint and action. Since there are approximately 71 endpoints, multiplying them by the 3 operations (create, update, and delete) would require me to create approximately 213 different listener endpoints. Managing this many listeners is extremely inefficient and creates unnecessary infrastructure and…

  16. I've created an Adminer plugin for IGDB. It allows displaying data in all the endpoints, it supports search, sort and all the API features. A killer feature is foreign keys - data referencing other tables are linked to display them.

    Please link it from https://api-docs.igdb.com/#wrappers. A demo is available at https://demo.adminer.org/igdb/?igdb=IGDB&db=api and it can be downloaded at https://www.adminer.org/en/plugins/#driver.

  17. Topline: Many platforms have different media types e.g. cart, cd, digital, disk, cassette etc. These media types often have different artwork/coverart for a game when compared to each other.

    The ask: Provide an endpoint to show cover art and game details per medium per game

    Why:
    This way we could say: show me games for just this platforms medium and their associated cover art and details e.g. perhaps the CD release was different to the Digital release.

    Background:
    The Famicom Disk System had a bunch of games, which you’ve got, but the art work and medium - in this case…

  18. I'm currently working on a project where any (eventual) users of my app will (with their consent) be parsing their game libraries and providing data where it's missing in igdb, I'd like to be able to post this data via my app to your database.

    Obviously, I'm not expecting to be able to post directly, but the ability to log contribution requests via POST commands would be good.
