  1. The idea is to have a special section called "Editions" which would be different from "Versions". This section would be only dedicated to collector's editions, GOTY and so on. Could be added under the "This game is a version." section on the edit page, as "This game is a special edition."

    Hey!
Yesterday we released the first phase of a project to redo version which helps this. We do still have versions, but going forward it will only be used for editions indeed.
we added support for Remake, Remasters, Expanded Games, Ports, and Forks. Any of these won’t need to be marked as a Version anymore :)

  2. I want to contribute to the community by adding qualified category images from IGDB to Twitch. Particularly for the games Dead or Alive 2 and Dead or Alive 3.

  3. Few companies maintain the same name forever. Some rename, merge, are bought out, or generally acquired. It would be helpful to manage the progression of various devs and publishers with a timeline progression and/or a tree of ownership.

    Ex.
    1) Squaresoft > Square > Square and Enix merge > SquareEnix

    2) Namco and Bandai merge > Namco Bandai > Bandai Namco Games

    3) Activision and Blizzard Merge > Create holding company called Activision Blizzard that owns the two companies Activision and Blizzard.

    Hello!
We are looking at redoing our company data taxonomy, part of which is possibly adding several ‘layers’ to companies, such as Divisions for example.

Companies are a bit lacking at the moment as we historically have been focusing on Games, but we gradually intend to start giving them more love :)

    Stay tuned!

  4. When sorting an API request on e.g. totalratingcount descending, I'd expect the highest numbers to be at the start, and games with no ratings to be at the bottom. This is currently not the case, where games with no ratings (null) are at the start. This essentially makes the sorting function broken. Please treat null as zero in the API so that these games appear at the bottom of the response as expected.

  5. Something fairly simple: a "clear all notifications" button on the "Your Notifications" page. I do a lot of editing at once, so it's a bit annoying to have to remove each notification one at a time when I'm bombed with "your change has been approved" messages. Maybe a similar thing for the notification bell button up top as well?

  6. When sorting lists by Release Date, titles missing ones are often sorted to the front as future titles, or to identify ones that need a Release Date added. However, cancelled titles never hope to come out, and therefore never will have a date. Ability to disable this setting, or identify the time it was announced as cancelled could alleviate this problem, over a permanent TBA or TBD.

  7. This might sound counter-intuitive, but in regards to titles that don't involve Storylines, an option to disable the Storyline feature, or just a simple flag that states the title has no in-game plotline, would help to identify the number of titles in the database that have no need for the tag.

Annual sports titles or generic puzzle games really have no need for the datapoint, and it could greatly reduce the Karma Hunters page percentage below 93% Missing Storylines.

  8. Add Russia as region in release date. A lot of Russian exclusive games out there, and also those that do came out to the rest of Europe.

  10. Add Wikidata item related to the game. Wikidata links to IGDB and this could be a way for IGDB to link back to Wikidata.

  11. There are times some users confuse the general name of "Mobile" to include iOS, Android and other modern mobile platforms.

It might be prudent to rename this to Legacy Mobile, JAVA, WAP, or other name to help differentiate it form those common names.

  13. On the Press Kit pages, such as https://www.igdb.com/games/outriders/presskit there is a note on the inspiration of the press kit: Inspired by presskit() by Rami Ismail(Vlambeer)

While the Vlambeer twitter that is linked to still exists, the company ended in 2020, so my suggestion is to change the Vlambeer link to that of Rami Ismail's own twitter https://twitter.com/tha_rami

  15. Pick topics on how to review a game

    example
    20% gameplay
    80% soundtrack

don't ask the user for a final score determine the total score based on each category

does not have to be my idea though just upvote this if you wanna see a more robust review system

  16. Apparently there was previously features for adding a custom profile pic and banner which were disabled. If that's the case it would be great to bring those back, I can't see them doing any harm. More personalisation is appreciated on sites such as these. It would also be nice to display some kind of bio in the "Overview" section (there's even space in the middle perfect for it) as well as a possible list of consoles/platforms owned.

    Hey!

I can confirm this is definitely in the works. When we switched to Twitch logins after the acquisition we had to terminate our own user upload feature for safety and privacy reasons. The current plan is to add the ability to sync your IGDB profile Avatar & Banners with your Twitch profile, so it would be one seamless account across both.

Adding extra to the profile itself is something we very much would like to do, some work has even already put into this. Unfortunately however this isn’t currently on our roadmap and priority list for the short term. But soon!

    Thanks!

  17. Please add the Sinclair ZX81 as a platform. It is the computer that pre-dates the ZX Spectrum and came after the ZX80. It has a few classic games like for example 3D Monster Maze (the first or one of the first first person games).

If available I'd like to add games to that platform (which I own myself) to further complete the IGDB database.

  19. Currently IGDB's release date options don't allow for tracking both a game's initial early access release and the date at which it was declared to be in full release — e.g. Hades was originally released in early access for Windows on 12/6/18 and went into full release for Windows, Mac and Switch on 09/17/20. Currently, there can only be one Windows release date. Not only does this create ambiguity as to which date a page should go with, but ultimately both are valuable information and should be included on the page – there are contexts in which users will want…

    Heya!
This is an excellent suggestion, and in fact something we’ve been wanting to have for a while.
It is in our backlog to indeed allow for more than one release date, early access is a great example but it is also applicable to other game status indeed.

No ETA, but absolutely something we will be looking at in the future!

  20. Right now there seems to be some confusion with the available options for Genres and Themes. Some options are missing, others are in Themes whereas they would make more sense in Genres, and yet others are way too broad to be descriptive and informative.

My suggestion is first to determine what is a Genre and what is a Theme, and convey that to all the data contributors. I suggest to define "Genre" as something that indicates HOW the game is played (gameplay rules and elements), and "Theme" as something that indicates WHERE the game is played (setting and lore elements).

    Hey!

First of all thanks a lot for putting this table together, this for sure will become handy when we research this further.

We’ve been wanting to revamp our Genres/Themes/Keywords for a while, it’s a fairly big undertaking that implies a taxonomy upgrade.
We’ve discussed making use of a sub categories to avoid redundancy and more accuracy for example.

While this isn’t on our radar just yet, i would say it is pretty high up our list of feature upgrade. We’ll keep in touch when we start this project!
