How it works:
  • Choose a relevant category for your idea and check to see if any other users have already submitted this suggestion before creating your own
  • Be clear with your suggestion, provide examples and solutions to the problem you are posing. Suggestions without actionable feedback may be closed without comment
  • Upvote existing ideas, as opposed to creating multiple similar requests
  • Be sure to share your suggestion with others to gain more support!
  • Note: Suggestions are not guarantees that we will take action on an idea. We will try our best to communicate why an idea may not work, but may not always be able to share that information.

  1. It would be great if the API returned which company worked on which platform, for example Company A worked on platforms X, Y and Company B on platform Z. This information is visible on the edit page on IGDB, but not via the API (should presumably be included in the "involved companies" endpoint).

  2. The ability to link a gamejolt.com page with your games since most of my games are on Gamejolt and i'd like to make categories for them

    Hi!

We looked into this and we thought that indeed adding Gamejolt might be a good fit. This has been added to our backlog and we’ll take a look at it when we can.

    Thank you for the suggestion!

  3. The idea is to have a special section called "Editions" which would be different from "Versions". This section would be only dedicated to collector's editions, GOTY and so on. Could be added under the "This game is a version." section on the edit page, as "This game is a special edition."

    Hey!
Yesterday we released the first phase of a project to redo version which helps this. We do still have versions, but going forward it will only be used for editions indeed.
we added support for Remake, Remasters, Expanded Games, Ports, and Forks. Any of these won’t need to be marked as a Version anymore :)

  4. Few companies maintain the same name forever. Some rename, merge, are bought out, or generally acquired. It would be helpful to manage the progression of various devs and publishers with a timeline progression and/or a tree of ownership.

    Ex.
    1) Squaresoft > Square > Square and Enix merge > SquareEnix

    2) Namco and Bandai merge > Namco Bandai > Bandai Namco Games

    3) Activision and Blizzard Merge > Create holding company called Activision Blizzard that owns the two companies Activision and Blizzard.

    Hello!
We are looking at redoing our company data taxonomy, part of which is possibly adding several ‘layers’ to companies, such as Divisions for example.

Companies are a bit lacking at the moment as we historically have been focusing on Games, but we gradually intend to start giving them more love :)

    Stay tuned!

  6. This might be alittle complicated without some way for Users to manually submit Critic Review links, but there are a large number of high profile journalists and game reviewers that have stepped away from writing full articles on a game that an AI bot can web-crawl, and have switched to primarily YouTube video reviews. Many of these are now on Metacritic as well.

  7. Currently keywords are just a dumping ground for any word or phrase that is somewhat related to a game.

Perhaps what is needed is a re-definition or splitting up of keywords into:

    Game mechanics (keywords)
    Atmospheric/visual (keywords)
    Player character (keywords)
    Other/Minor (keywords)

Let's take the "rain" keyword for example. Currently there are 310 games with this keyword assigned. These games feature rain to various degrees for various purposes:

Gameplay: Rain (Game) - a core mechanic where your character is invisible unless they stand in the rain.
Atmospheric: Deadly Premonition - it rains for most of the game, and the raincoat…

  8. Do it by using both:

Content filtering (content-based filtering): a user rates games and/or adds games to their personal library or lists, and then is shown stuff that has similar metadata to the games that that user has rated highly and/or added to their library. For example, games within the same genres, games from the same developers, games released in the same year, etc.

Collaborative filtering (user-library-based filtering): a user rates games and/or adds games to their personal library, and then is shown stuff that other users who highly rated those same games and/or have those same games in their…

  10. Something fairly simple: a "clear all notifications" button on the "Your Notifications" page. I do a lot of editing at once, so it's a bit annoying to have to remove each notification one at a time when I'm bombed with "your change has been approved" messages. Maybe a similar thing for the notification bell button up top as well?

  11. This might sound counter-intuitive, but in regards to titles that don't involve Storylines, an option to disable the Storyline feature, or just a simple flag that states the title has no in-game plotline, would help to identify the number of titles in the database that have no need for the tag.

Annual sports titles or generic puzzle games really have no need for the datapoint, and it could greatly reduce the Karma Hunters page percentage below 93% Missing Storylines.

  12. Add Russia as region in release date. A lot of Russian exclusive games out there, and also those that do came out to the rest of Europe.

  13. There are times some users confuse the general name of "Mobile" to include iOS, Android and other modern mobile platforms.

It might be prudent to rename this to Legacy Mobile, JAVA, WAP, or other name to help differentiate it form those common names.

  14. Right now there seems to be some confusion with the available options for Genres and Themes. Some options are missing, others are in Themes whereas they would make more sense in Genres, and yet others are way too broad to be descriptive and informative.

My suggestion is first to determine what is a Genre and what is a Theme, and convey that to all the data contributors. I suggest to define "Genre" as something that indicates HOW the game is played (gameplay rules and elements), and "Theme" as something that indicates WHERE the game is played (setting and lore elements).

    Hey!

First of all thanks a lot for putting this table together, this for sure will become handy when we research this further.

We’ve been wanting to revamp our Genres/Themes/Keywords for a while, it’s a fairly big undertaking that implies a taxonomy upgrade.
We’ve discussed making use of a sub categories to avoid redundancy and more accuracy for example.

While this isn’t on our radar just yet, i would say it is pretty high up our list of feature upgrade. We’ll keep in touch when we start this project!

  15. A historic data such as followers/viewers would be very nice.

  16. On the Press Kit pages, such as https://www.igdb.com/games/outriders/presskit there is a note on the inspiration of the press kit: Inspired by presskit() by Rami Ismail(Vlambeer)

While the Vlambeer twitter that is linked to still exists, the company ended in 2020, so my suggestion is to change the Vlambeer link to that of Rami Ismail's own twitter https://twitter.com/tha_rami

  20. Please add the Sinclair ZX81 as a platform. It is the computer that pre-dates the ZX Spectrum and came after the ZX80. It has a few classic games like for example 3D Monster Maze (the first or one of the first first person games).

If available I'd like to add games to that platform (which I own myself) to further complete the IGDB database.
