Twitch Stream Teams - Revamp
Stream Teams used to be a cornerstone of Twitch and worked like small networks or guilds. Back when hosting was a feature you could set your team to be auto-hosted which gave mutual support to anyone on your team automatically. When that was removed Stream Teams atrophied and are now a nearly worthless feature.
I'd like to bring Stream Teams back into the spotlight and hopefully save this feature and improve it for everyone. As such, here are a list of potential improvements and reworks that may get it back on track.
If you've never heard of a Stream Team you can find ours here. https://www.twitch.tv/team/piratecrew

Stream Teams linked in Stream Title
Currently Stream Teams are only listed in the about section of your channel and only as a single line of text next to your follower amount. This text line is only modifiable by changing the Brand Color for your entire channel. Setting your color to black makes this link grey text like everything else on the page. https://i.imgur.com/wSb1Hmr.png Making this feature more visible and doing it in a way that streamers can control would go a long way. You can currently link to other channels in your Stream Title with @ so why not leverage this same tech for Stream Teams?Following Stream Teams
Right now a viewer needs to follow each member of a Stream Team to see them online. This is cumbersome and requires going to each streamers page to follow them. There would be much less friction for the viewer if they could follow the Stream Team and have each stream show up on their follow list as long as the streamer is in the followed team.Allow Affiliates to make Stream Teams
Right now you can only make a team if you are a Partner and then only through a support ticket request. This adds extra work for Twitch and makes the feature very exclusionary. Streamline the creation process by making a tab in account options. Open this feature to Affiliates to increase adoption.Team Emotes
Have emotes that unlock for viewers that follow the team as described in section 2. This would incentivize engaging with this system and give team logos and branding a place in the ecosystem.Team Charity Events
Right now the only way to do this is through third party tools and Twitch only allows first party integration on a single channel not shared with the team. Setting up a call to action on the Stream Team page would be a huge benefit and give a common goal for a group of communities.Team Hype Trains
A special Team Train could start when more than one streamer in a team is live. This would then visually combine the Bits/Subs between the communities involved in the train. This would encourage teams to stream together and make flash-point support moments where everyone wins. Bits/Subs thrown into the train would still go to their respective streamers but this brings a greater sense of community to teams and supporting streamers.
Understand that this is not an exhaustive list and there are tons more options. My hope is to use this as a springboard and save this failing feature before it gets cut for underperformance. Make sure you leave a comment below with your ideas!

Subbing to a stream team would be good, but for some reason I would wanna make it so you could sub to just the team for one price and get just the team emotes, or sub to the entire team (team + all the members) or sub to the team or just one member.
In that way you could get the team emotes, and the channel emotes of your favorite, or the team and all of the members, or just the team emotes.
And keep the tier system on the team like a tier 1 are just for the team. A tier 2 sub would be the team and one member, and a tier 3 sub would be the entire team (all the members and the team unique emotes) and all the members of that team gets a piece of the the sub payout regardless of the team sub the user chooses. That way each member gets something.
The team Charity: Events sounds like a good thing, lets say one team are doing something together, but each member of that team would have there own part be shown so we can easy see how much each member have done IF that streamer have chosen to show it. Otherwise there part just shows up as the entire team.
I miss the auto host function here on Twitch, regardless if it's in a team or just from one friend to an other so we users might get to see other streamers with similar content as we already follow (and sub to)
Team Hype Trains: That could trigger if more members are live at the same time, and the team gets subs on each channel who are live, and then split the earnings from the train on each member who are live at that moment. But the team train would only trigger if each member from that team (who are live at the same time) have an active train on there channel, and then triggers the team train thing, so each member already have a channel hype train and get there own earnings from that, and then the members who are live from that tram gets the earnings from the team hype trains.
And if we could follow the entire team as a whole instead (or as just a streamer) we could also get a separate list of our followed panel. Like: Followed Channels, Followed Teams, Recommended Channels and so on
So yes Twitch please bring back the function of the Stream Team.

I would love to see some sort of guild vs guild competition from time to time.

Yes I agree! the idea is amazing for polishing the current team system without it getting possibly terminated because it's not working to it's full potential.

Definitely an advocate for following the entire Stream Team, and being notified for when someone in that team goes live, instead of navigating to each individual page and following them. And with the new collab features on the site like knocking, having a team hype train could also be a cool implementation.

I agree with all of this. I don't like that only Partners can create teams as 1) becoming Partner is VERY difficult and near-impossible 2) it really has no reflection on their values as a whole, Partnership is about numbers more than anything. The people who NEED teams are Affiliates. I wouldn't even mind tiered team system or having specific requirements for Affiliates to create one (eg account age, community size, etc). At the very least I would like a Teams section that is open for applications because discovering them is hard and it's really intimidating to apply. As it is, you basically just have to notice a streamer who leads or is a member of a team, figure out if you'd be a good fit, find out if they're accepting apps, most aren't etc. Transparency about app requirements also would be great (eg if Twitch had a whole Teams browser section and one could peruse teams to discover new streamers, communities, etc., and filter by those accepting applications and whatnot).

Allowing and encouraging teams with even some of the suggestions here helps streamers to work together to produce and engage in events that in turn encourage more community engagement. This in turn helps Twitch by creating a more inviting user experience and driving more traffic to the platform to view these events. This would be a win for everyone.

Yes please. Allow us Affiliates to make ONE team. I'd love to have one focused on PG/PG13 Dinosaur game streamers primarily. I understand why Partners can have two, but let affiliates have ONE team creation ever. Get the second once you reach Partner or something.

As a new twitch viewer, I like the idea of stream teams being more available to non-partners.
Currently I find it difficult to discover streamers from Twitch itself, since there is a time burden for viewers to randomly click on a stream in a general category, possibly having to sit in the pre-rolls, before spending several minutes trying to figure out if that streamer's content is something you'd enjoy.
Having greater access and visibility for a way for streamers to passively recommend channels while they're offline (as opposed to sitting in a Livestream and seeing callouts, keeping in mind that callouts aren't available in VoDs), would be good way for viewers to discover content that they're more likely to enjoy when the viewer is available.

Streaming is very much a community centered event, and finding ways to bridge gaps between different live streams has always been something we as creators have tried to do. Everything from having shared visual assets to being in the same voice call to utilizing "multistream" websites so we can see different points of view at the same time, one thing we don't have access to do as third party users is make it FEEL first party. The suggestions outlined here are an incredible start to taking a feature like stream teams and making them into something that makes it even more of a community. It creates a bridge between communities and puts communities under a larger umbrella. I can't recommend starting with these suggestions enough. +1

I am currently a low level nobody, but this idea makes a lot of sense and comes from a guy that really knows his stuff and should be listened to because he really does have the best interest for this platform and it's users

So here are a couple thoughts as a partner and someone (slowly) working to put the pieces in place for a team.
Most of this I agree with yet see it difficult to implement effectively. I don't agree with the aspect of affiliates making teams simply because it goes the way of discord. If everyone can make their own team, everyone will make a team and then it circles back to the same age old discovery problem. Not only that, but there are plenty of ways to circumvent that and have seen plenty of teams set up by a partner only to be transferred to an affiliate streamer as they are no longer using it (or never intended on using it).
What is truly missing from this equation (in my opinion) is the squad streaming aspect (which is also locked behind the check mark). This program should be implemented within the team program instead giving members of a team the ability to stream together which could further support the event aspect mentioned.
Just my $.02

I love this idea and it would allow for affiliate DJs to do mini music festivals on Twitch which could be followed directly instead of having to follow every single account associated with the festival.
I can see TONS of useful applications for gaming streamers and social streamers alike. This is a great idea

I absolutely support this idea for a Twitch Stream Teams revamp! Linking teams in stream titles and allowing viewers to follow the whole team? Genius for visibility and community building. Letting Affiliates create teams? Inclusive and empowering for smaller streamers. Team emotes and charity events? Fantastic for engagement and giving back. And Team Hype Trains? A brilliant way to boost collaboration and excitement. This revamp could really rejuvenate a key Twitch feature, fostering a stronger, more connected streaming community. Let's make it happen! 🚀🎮👍 #ReviveStreamTeams

100% love this idea. Stream Teams being limited to Partners who very rarely utilise the concept, other than by "advertising X company that they're a team of" is such a waste and WILL conclude in the removal of the feature. Opening the feature to Affiliates allows for more usage of the system, to either promote various concepts/ideas such as SMPs etc for various types of games. Would also act as a formidable replacement of the old Twitch Communities system, but with more control over who is added to the Team etc.

Allowing the Stream Teams to be more visible and be interacted with as it's own community is a great idea. Being able to follow teams like this would help elevate communities with high activity.

@AnEthernetCable i really love the idea of using a # as special character for mentioning teams. It's a really nice way of doing that (i think it's easier for us as a community to remember that one).

This is a great idea, I especially like the ability to mention stream teams in titles. Perhaps a special character such as `#` or `$` would be used to indicate it's not a user (and to not conflict with existing usernames)?
Smoothing out the ability to make stream teams would be huge, as well as opening them up to more people. Would aid some of the discoverability problems Twitch is currently facing.
A featured team icon (like the partner icon) could also prove beneficial. Either being added manually by Twitch, if the team manager is partnered, or if a member (or ratio of members) of the team is partnered.

With the current difficulty in discovering new creators without having to go through so much irrelevant or wildly innapropriate content, it would be nice to have more attention paid to systems that allow creators to signpost their allies and favourites.
