Increase Disconnect Protection Time to 5 Minutes
I think the Disconnect Protection feature is a life saver in a lot of situations - but there are times where the current 90 seconds is not enough to recover.
In a case where a computer blue screens, it feels like a race to reboot, load up the streaming software and continue the stream.
Modems that also need a reset can take 2-3 minutes to connect online, and many routers (at least that I've owned) take a long time to restart and give online access again too.
A 5 minute window would make the recovery process a lot less stressful.

Also noticing that the stream VOD splits and/or drops CCV in much less than 90seconds (seemingly less than 30seconds) anyway.

Four years later, this is still a good suggestion. Now, more than ever, there's a whole series of equipment, dual PC, modems, lights, bots, etc... all kinds of things that take time. Expanding it a few minutes is a reasonable request!

It's been 4 years (3 since my reply below) and this really needs to be addressed and added to twitch. More comments coming in below every year shows this is a common issue that can be an easy resolve. Not everyone can get back up in running in 90 seconds after an outage, bluescreen, or internet reboot. Please increate the Disconnect Protection, it can help a ton.

Having the stream disconnect AND start a new VOD (not good for sponsored content especially), really ruins the experience for lurkers and isn't very fun. Especially when we're already having technical issues. I feel like 5 mins would be much more fair on both us Streamers and our Viewers! I so love the reconnecting screen and it's been a life saver many times, but it's not long enough. 💜

Why TF is twitch not implementing this until now? Fking ****** off that its still 90 seconds until now when we need much longer time to reset our connection/fix whatever problem that is interrupting our stream. So next time when twitch go down I expect them to come back up in 90 seconds right??? Yall take so **** long to recover service, and yet still dare to advertise aggressively to viewers. WHAT A ******* JOKE

THIS!! When my internet dies it takes about 3 minutes to reestablish the connection and unfortunately that happens quite frequently. It sucks when the VOD gets split in half as well as my viewership :(

Yea, it would be good to know the reasons why it's not set to longer. From a streamer's perspective it should be: more than enough time. For many, it takes hours or 10 hours to gain the viewership. So why is it set to be a race? Feels like it should be at least 5 mins given for many it means restarting a computer, restarting a router, etc.

Agreed, I just finished a stream where my OBS crashed and I had to restart my PC. The process of restarting and reopening OBS just happened to take longer than 90 seconds and I ended up losing half of my viewers 🤦♂️

I'm surprised this feature hasn't evolved at all. I was going to submit the same idea. It's hard to understand the reason(s) it's not longer in the first place. It seems more designed for a professional broadcast control room, than it does Twitch Creators at home scrambling to communicate to chat they're coming back online -- while also trying to actually get back online, usually with a restart or other complicated issues.

This a 1 million %! 90 seconds is definitely not long enough to recover from a BSOD.

Bumping this. If you can't increase the time at least give an option to combine VODs from a stream that had a disconnection mid-stream please.

I'd vouch for this suggestion too since I feel like 90 seconds of dc protection isn't enough for when power outage happens

When someone's internet is having issues, the average fix is to shut off their router, wait 30 seconds and then boot it up again which then can take anywhere from 20 seconds to 3 minutes for it to reestablish connection. The current 90 seconds is absolutely not enough time for a streamer to reconnect, even if their problems are resolved with the absolute fastest time possible.

Would also like for the disconnect protection to be increased, 3-5 minutes would be lovely for PC reboots, modem/router reboots, or application crashes.

Came here to post the same suggestion. Literally needed just 30 more seconds, but the stream complete restarted on it's own and I lost about half the viewers I had (including many hosts) because they may be afk and don't see it to need to refresh. Please increase the "Disconnect Protection" to account for PC, Modem and Router reboots which take a bit longer than 90 seconds most times.
