  1. I was scrolling through my "Followning" feed, and was focusing on a streamer to whom I had never actively tuned into before. I was following this streamer most likely because a streamer I enjoy and subscribe to raided and suggested I follow. Which I generally do, because that's how we build community.

When I attempted to tune in to this suggested streamer, I was greeted by pre-rolls. And a LIST of how many more pre-rolls to come. "Oh heck that!" Said me, "I'll go tune into someone I'm already subscribed to!"

Examine that carefully, Twitch folks. A double loss for…

  2. I think it would be cool if partners got to make a custom 15 second and that plays every stream to promote merch or anything they want

  3. If you could get an extension for games with lobbies that would roll a 10-15 second ad in between the games (lobby) rather than playing the regular one over the stream. Obviously, the Affiliate or Partner would have to download the ones for the games they play, if they play without the extension, or don't have it when they play the regular ad rules would apply.

  4. Allow streamers to opt-in for 3min~5min scheduled ad session every hour or two. Could be used as a stretching time for all of us (viewers + streamers).

  6. I see multiplayer ads which are polls, twitch could take it to the next level and have multiplayer ads where chat plays each other in a minigame for 30s or 1m, like a very quick battle royale

  7. I feel that a few of features that are new, or in testing, on Twitch had a dedicated place on the page to run instead obstructing streams , or flashing up in chat.

Having a small area (maybe the top 1/4 of the chat area on desktop) to host these features wouldn't be that intrusive, and could be used as a place to display small ads for non-subs, and maybe the area could be used for the streamer to host custom apps (like overlays) for subscribers.

I'm a huge fan of consistency, so having an area like that to test…

  8. You have 7sec or less (30sec ads = lost viewer) to serve the viewer their content or they will bounce, do like YouTube's 5secs. Ads must be relevant to the streamer. Ads can not violate COPPA.

  9. All ads need to run in a window on the stream instead of blocking out the stream for up to 20 seconds. Every ad that runs makes me AVOID the products shown like the plague because they are INTRUSIVE and BELIGERENT is brute-forcing advertising about items I have absolutely NO interest in.

  10. If interaction breaks, momentum dies. There are dozens of ways to keep the momentum flowing while an ad is playing-- just look at all of the YouTubers who get sponsored and do skits/product placement during their videos.

Example: If the streamer has the ability to temporarily defer ads and play them back to back, ("collecting" an ad every 15 mins or so, to play 6 at the end of 1.5 hours,) this gives the streamer more control on when their intended content is interrupted-- or, even better, an option to play the ads FIRST in order to unlock SUBSTANTIAL ad-free…

  11. If you guys used the same logic for bounty board on ads you could have a much easier time getting us to run them. I used to make hundreds a month in 2011 from ads and now despite growing etc etc I only push viewers away spamming them for MAYBE a few bucks if I'm lucky.

Myself and many others would likely be more happy to run ads if we had a target goal of "ad hours per month" that based on our viewership could fluctuate but would generally give us a target.

    Example: Currently I stream 5ish hours a…

  12. Recently there has been a few changes on Twitch that could have been better implemented with some user research. Twitch has had a community set up for this exact thing for a long time, and yet, we are yet to see anything meaningful come through this. This is an ideal way for Twitch to get a better idea of how these changes are going to come through, without having to do "damage mitigation" after the announcement. Are we ever going to see this used?

  13. Mid-Roll Ads Feedback:

You wanna roll more ads. Sweet. I want more pre-rolls disabled time for running them.
90 seconds of ads = 45 Minutes of Pre-Rolls Disabled.
Disable Mid-Roll ads if 60 seconds of ads have been ran in the past 60 minutes.
Add an indicator both on stream and on Creator Dashboard that informs us if a mid-roll ad is about to be run within 10 minutes of ad, with a second 5 minute warning.
Also inform viewers on stream that the mid roll ad that is about to run is 100% started by Twitch and not the…

  14. No advertisements for active chatters.

I think that when a streamer rolls an add or the auto rolling adverts pop up it can massively drive viewers and people invested in conversation away from the channel and forum.

A simple fix would be to not roll adverts to those actively chatting in the stream.

Say a 5 minute timer from last recieved message then roll an ad to that user and maximum of 1 ad to said user per user. Or a quick pop up box like the channel points warning users an advert is 30 seconds from rolling. Click on…

  15. Put it in the contract, that the streamer is obligated to play mid rolls every x hours, with a time window of 15 minutes to do so, but make it so, that all viewers see the ads at the same time. Just like on tv. The Streamer can plan and the viewers don't miss anything.

  16. Ad timing (when in a broadcast an ad is shown, plus for how long or for how many ads) is a largely "invisible" skill in traditional media, but an important one for managing the flow of content delivery that almost no streamers have. Twitch broadcasters lack dedicated producers for this purpose, and the current algorithms that automatically deliver ads account for at most the time since the last ads a user watched. This leads to ad delivery that often interrupts streams very badly.
Twitch should develop more sophisticated algorithms that deliver ads at the least intrusive moments in streams. For…

  17. I've noticed when some ads play they take over the screen and the stream is moved to be above the chat until the ad ends. I think this should be reversed. Ads should take up that space above chat and then disappear; or, perhaps, they appear in the corner of the stream. If this were done, of course, ads would likely have be silent -- and I doubt any user would be against that.
Whatever the case, ads taking up the entirety of a livestream is just not acceptable and advertisers/Twitch need to figure out a better way to have…

  18. So just like Facebook and WeChat allow a preview of games and ads that involve interactivity, perhaps Twitch can include support for playable ads in pre-roll ads or in-stream ad breaks.

Here is an example of what I am talking about provided by Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/business/m/one-sheeters/playable-ads

I have listed down all the benefits of including playable ads in Twitch on this shared Google doc: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1T2iNVrNcf8Dz8l09f0eiIEt0dMMLb9ggaiU-OqIOP7M/edit#

I am working on a project with a non-profit but we chose NOT to put our marketing on Twitch because they don't offer playable ads (unless they do and you can let me know) which previews…
