Approach Doxxing Seriously
On Thursday night, January 16th, around 8:30 PM EST, I was doxxed live on stream. A new user entered my chat, making their username my street address, and announcing my legal name, full address, and phone number to everyone that was on my stream. My moderator quickly deleted the messages, but before we could block or ban the user, they immediately followed me, as they knew that information would stay on my chat no matter what.
The moderator that was there that night reported this individual as soon as they realized this was my private information. They got a default response saying the report would be addressed soon. Roughly an hour after stream ended, they received a message saying action had been taken. They did not say how or in what way. I was shell shocked when this happened, but when I recovered a bit, I reported the account in the morning. I made a ticket through their contact page, as I was unaware of how to report an account. I got a default response saying they would address my situation. An hour later, they responded, saying I was not addressing this the traditional way and told me to report them as I should have. They ignored the fact they doxxed me. I got a default response when I reported the traditional way they asked for immediately, and I have not heard anything since then. I am surprised there was no more detail about the actions they took, as the severity of doxxing doesn't feel like it was taken as seriously as it should. Their phrasing gives way to the smallest punishment being possibly just an account removal, as opposed to something permanent like the IP ban they mentioned being possible in the email, or legal action being taken through Twitch.
I am unable to contact my local authorities regarding this issue. This is due to my location. Where I live, there would be no chance of a case standing in court. The police closest to my area are only volunteers, we have no actual authority. Even if I discussed this with another town nearby, it would be dismissed and I would be told sorry, and that be it. This is due to the police in my area not willing to investigate situations like this. And, as much as I hate to say it, it also does not help that I am a woman. Female cases get dismissed quickly where I live.
The best I can do is contact Twitch regarding this case. They only told me to report them, as submitting a ticket through their contact page was ‘not sent the proper way.’ Ever since I submitted again, all I received was an automatic response on that same day. For all I know, this user could make another account and submit the same information. They didn’t tell me nor my moderator if anything will actually be done to stop this from happening again.
I find this lack of action on Twitch's part absolutely disgusting. Not only are they not acknowledging the fact I have been doxxed, but, in order to get their attention, you have to go to TWITTER and hope that your post regarding this matter gets HUNDREDS OF THOUSDANDS of interactions with it. You have to constantly tag them, reshare what happened, and more. And even then, you are not guaranteed to get the help you need, let alone a response from an actual human being. It is either this or you hope you are a big content creator they constantly have their eyes on and highlight.
I made my post. I have various content creators, even smaller than I, telling me they also got doxxed, and Twitch did not do anything about it. These victims are in danger because of the apathy of Twitch. To the day of writing this, I have never heard anything back from the team. Even though small, we small streamers help you make the gains you make today, and when situations like this happens, this is how you thank us?
Overall, the way doxxing is currently taken needs to change completely. We should not have to flock to another social media to reach out to you regarding our private information being leaked. We should not have to talk to a robot about our situation on this. And we definitely should not have to worry about the 'traditional' way to handle a situation like this. This is no longer just for me, this is for all content creators no matter the size. Do something.

They already have a system that auto moderates for bad language of various sort. They claim it has components of AI that track variants for abusive language. We've seen as mods how these things do catch strays quite often, sometimes hilariously but who knows how often its blocking things that we never even see. There is the 1 level of automod where it flags things for all mods to see but also the harder version that wont even let the person enter the information into the chat at all.
It cant be JUST blocking my name and address from my chat as that is a an end around confirmation of the data. They could however block that data AND everything else that looks like an address, an extensive list of names that happens to include the real one and response with a message something akin to 'it appears you are posting ID information. We block all detected ID information not just that of the streamer'. That way lending some additional obscurement. Also someone that repeatedly triggers this should be auto-flagged and incapable of interacting further.
This cant be limited to just the stream either. Often times people will be stalking others and troll them in outside chats, so a general filter site wide is needed.

Twitch absolutely needs a way to stop people from doxxing streamers. The last 2 streams I have done on Twitch which were last Friday and last night I was doxxed by a ton of people coming into my chat. They were posting my real name and one of my old addresses as well as my personal emails. This is down right ridiculous, even using the banned words is not working. They are finding ways to circumvent that by creating accounts with my information. It is making me want to completely stop streaming due to it, I mean what the **** is the point if someone is just going to repeatedly circumvent measures to prevent stuff like this. DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT! Kick actually gives a **** about doxxing. Looks like I may be moving to there.

This is not the first case of doxxing live on stream that I’ve heard of recently, which is very concerning as a streamer who values privacy and anonymity. I think anyone who values their safety and the safety of others would agree that doxxing is not only unacceptable but ILLEGAL. Please improve how these situations are handled. An IP ban for users who doxx others is more than fair.

This is awful and I'm so sorry that you were a victim of doxxing, as well as the complete lack of action or communication from Twitch. This is a Trust & Safety issue, if we cannot trust the platform to protect us to a reasonable degree then we cannot continue to risk our personal safety by streaming on Twitch.

I'm not surprised that Twitch didn't take it seriously. They only seem to take things seriously if it risks losing them money. Either way, what was done is abhorrent, as is the failure of Twitch to do anything meaningful in response.
