Bring back unlimited highlights
Having a limit on highlights is really damaging to my community. I am going to switch streaming services due to this and I know others that will as well. Having the ability to watch back tournament matches is a main reason I use this service, and losing that ability and forcing us to upload to youtube through your service reflects laziness and cheapness. I am very disappointed in this change and would like it to be reversed immediately.

The stats listed, "less than 0.5% of users have more than 100 hours of highlights, and highlights account for less than 0.1% of hours watched" seem so braindead to me. Those numbers are so close that it seems like they are scrapping something at random in the name of pinching pennies, even though it will hurt hours watched.
It doesn't surprise me that highlights aren't as watched as *all other forms of watching*, but at 20% I'd say it is really good. But they also intentionally hid or didn't look at what percentage of watch time went to highlights of accounts that are over 100 hours. Marathon channels and speedruns go over 100 hours quickly... and they are easily more watched than most other highlights.

i am pretty pi$$€d about this. i used it to safe my LPs, now i have to work up 1300h of video footage to save it somewhere. this is a lot of extra work, i would have loved to do something else with, if i knew this would happen when you brought this funktion in. I EVEN HAVE TO TAKE DOWN MY FIRST UPLOADS, becuase it is counting into the limit allthough they are older than the highlight feature itself, like WTF. The worst is, that i have to go into EVERY SINGLE Highlight and export and download it manually, then go back and delete it, while getting reminded, that i exceed the limit EVERY SINGLE TIME!
This is just anothere reason for me to change plattforms period. Thanks Jeff! -

Keep unlimited highlights,or you will ruin so much speedrunning history's that people built, so much of a game history will be gone just because of this stupid limit
If it's only 0.5% of people, that has more than 100+hours of highlights, why you even need to limit it to everybody? That looks like a spit to a fellow users or just being lazy to make a large storage for a highlights (I didn't know how it work exactly,so i can't arguing about that much) and still, as @Mushie64 mention, we COULD reupload it to YouTube, but some of the highlights didn't have a chat plugin on their broadcast's, so it not showed on a video, that you could see the chat on video itself, but we could see them on a twitch chat at the right side when we rewatch the highlights(i'm very sorry for my english, it could be not that understandable what i want to say,but i hope you will understand). Emotions, happines, cheerings, kind and supportive words and other, that what youtube didn't represent,we cannot download highlight with chat itself, it will be gone forever -

I'll mention another avenue that is hurt by this upcoming change, kind of the intersection between tournaments and speedruns: marathon channels. Consider GDQ, Speedrun(ESA), BSG as somewhat bigger names who will suffer from having their highlights nuked. I have intimate experience with the channels "sm64romhacks" and "FangameMarathon", which are smaller but passionate channels for marathons of various fangames. They put the most sense into the existence of Highlights and Collections if we don't count speedrunning, with runs meticulously highlighted and preserved, ready to watch later.
"Just export these to YouTube!" someone might say. We already do. But YouTube lacks the chat replays. For me personally, those are half of the heart and soul of a marathon event.Actually, I see a comment by IhavenonameSDA on this other suggestion for the same thing (https://twitch.uservoice.com/forums/933812-safety/suggestions/49496279-please-don-t-implement-the-highlight-storage-limit) that lists this point already. So I'll be dropping my comment here solely to show that multiple people are thinking about each individual aspect that will be hurt by this change.

Yep well said BlazingRaven, although I am convinced speedrunners broadly will take up action as much as possible to find solutions. The reasons Twitch cite for this change are indeed misleading and hardly even veiled as anything other than cost-saving, along with trying to compete in a hugely improbable market with their stories.

I noticed and became interested in Twitch thanks to the large reservoir of speedruns of my favorite RPG, of which many of the top-runners streamed many other games and may not have elected to keep these lengthy runs had the 100-hour restriction been in place. I've since become one of these RPG-speedrunners, and now I must make plans to move to a different service in order to pass the enthusiasm forward.
To say nothing of the damage this new restriction would do to various communities, I'm intensely skeptical that this decision is even pragmatic for Twitch's own well-being. Please reconsider.

As someone who speedruns an RPG and wants to keep the history of that speedrun intact, please keep highlights unlimited. Otherwise, so much of that history could be lost. Not just for my game but others as well. And this goes even beyond speedrunning of course. So many channels in general will be impacted and that history lost because of this.

Doing this clearly shows twitch devs do not understand how statistics work. the less than 0.5% of streamers is badly misleading as it ignores the fact the stats of active vs inactive streamers. Twitch devs should take the time to investigate further and look into streamer activity rates and cross reference with usage of the usage of the highlight feature. For example: if you have streamed less than XYZ amount of hours since you created your account, your highlight usage numbers are not taken into account with this percentage. This would give a far more accurate representation of activity than just putting everyone in a pot and calling it a day.
The saddest part about this is that the people that have the most to lose in this, namely speedrunners who use highlights a lot, are the one who will take the least action to fix this.
