How it works:
  • Choose a relevant category for your idea and check to see if any other users have already submitted this suggestion before creating your own
  • Be clear with your suggestion, provide examples and solutions to the problem you are posing. Suggestions without actionable feedback may be closed without comment
  • Upvote existing ideas, as opposed to creating multiple similar requests
  • Be sure to share your suggestion with others to gain more support!
  • Note: Suggestions are not guarantees that we will take action on an idea. We will try our best to communicate why an idea may not work, but may not always be able to share that information.
  • Titles that are unclear or unnecessarily vulgar may be reworded to better reflect the request for ease of discovery

  1. Add information about if a game is on/included in a subscription service.

Such as gamepass or stadia (included with the stadia sub)

And if a removal date exists (as games will leave gamepass)

  2. Something that can become rather repetitive and even prevent users from adding all the Add-ons for a given title is repetitively entering the same data points over and over.

It would be extremely helpful if you set an entry to be an Addon, Expansion, Version or other relevant entry to copy all data relevant data from the original title.

    Such as:
    - Categorization fields
    - Company fields
    - Websites
    - Engine
    - Age Ratings

    Ex. LittleBigPlanet

Hey! Excellent suggestion, in fact we have something very similar in our Backlog already, with a ‘inherit data from parent’ feature.

It’s just at an idea stage for now, but we’ll look into planning in in accordance with our roadmap as soon as possible.
    Cheers!

Hi! We think this is a great idea, and wouldn't be hard to do. It's indeed a good way to mark all those character trailers (there are a lot of them). We have put this in our backlog and will try to get to it as soon as possible. Thanks!

    Hey Barry!
Yes absolutely this is planned. While External Games and External Websites are separate they are closely related and may tackle them together.

For External Games this will be a big focus for us going forward.
    Stay tuned!

  5. Previously, I had been able to submit coverart for games on Twitch via a form located on the Twitch support website. This was a critical feature of Twitch to ensure that smaller and/or older games on the Twitch platform wouldn't be left with incorrect or generic artwork. However, as of late, my submissions of coverart via the form have gone unanswered, and the link to the form has been removed from Twitch's support site as well.

For context, the form is located here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeHi3k8F8Vmu_uayd-ynHWh0fZ8O5FkAc3Smp4lJrj6r-I5eg/viewform

And it was referenced on this support page: https://help.twitch.tv/s/article/adding-a-game-and-box-art-to-the-directory?language=en_US

Heya! This could indeed be interesting, however there’s a lot of possible legal investigation to look into when it comes to music copyrights.

In the short term it’s hard to say how we could approach this. Long term we of course would love to expand our data and game info with music, sounds like an obvious fit!

  7. There are duplicate categories for "Final Fantasy VI":
    1. 858043689
    2. 5815

Can these please be combined into a single category?

  8. When a entry is "deleted" in favor of a duplicate.

Send a update for and update both entries.

The old/dead entry, remove all data (consider the remove optional) and add a

    replaced_by: new_id

    entry.

The new entry is updated with an existed_as which is an array of "old id's" that have been merged into the record

  9. Many companies exist on the site under two or more names, with a number of games attributed to each of the various forms of their name. A procedure to flag and combine these disparate developer and publisher listings under a single company name would allow this data to be cleaned up and made more useful.

  11. Instead of using random algorithm for similar games on IGDB pages. Make users enable recommend games based on their review. See MyAnimeList for the implementation. Its something like this :

If you like [Insert game title], then you can try this based on users recommendation and similar theme.

  12. To build up our personal libraries on IGDB, we wouldn't have to manually search for and add each game. We could simply connect our IGDB accounts to our accounts on all of those services, and IGDB would automatically populate our libraries with the games that exist in our libraries on each of those retailers. Steam, for example, has a 'sign in with Steam' function that IGDB could implement, and we could use it to connect our IGDB accounts to our Steam accounts. Other game retailers have similar functions; that's how GOG Galaxy 2.0's integrations work.
    This way, in IGDB I'd…

    Hey!

This is a good suggestion thank you! This has been discussed a couple of times in the past. We can’t promise any ETA on such a feature but it would be interesting to investigate.

Our main concerns so far would be what can be included is random: should it have filters, should it be games on all platforms or only selected ones, all age ratings etc..

If you have more ideas or specifics that always helps, we’ll leave this ticket open meanwhile!
    Thank you!

  16. TL;DR: Some way to differentiate canonical franchise entries from noncanonical ones would be awesome.

First off, I love that IGDB accepts and maintains data about ROM hacks, fan games, and other "unofficial" titles. It really helps the platform's position and usability as a database for all games of all kinds.

That being said, when looking through the search results for a franchise like Pokemon, there are an incredible number of these unofficial games mixed into the results, many of which are built off of the existing, official games. There's nothing (as far as I can tell, anyway) in the metadata…

Hi there! We couldn't agree more that we need something to differentiate official and unofficial content and we've been discussing for a while how we can do that. We are currently investigating ways forward to make sure that when we do this, it's done correctly. Thanks for the great suggestion!

  18. Several games have interesting or obscure caveats in terms of their release or their playability, and it's worth mentioning them for the sake of completeness. For example, Donkey Kong Junior is listed as a Gameboy Advance release, which is technically correct, but it was only playable via the e-Reader, which is not obvious. Additionally, Donkey Kong Junior also exists as a playable game within Game and Watch Gallery 3 and 4, which may technically not count as a release but deserves mentioning somewhere. There are several examples of games with unique scenarios like this, and this data doesn't really have…

Hey! This is excellent, we ourselves have been wanting Triva data for a long time. Although this isn’t a high priority data it would offer a lot in terms of general knowledge.

However this is a difficult data to handle, as verifying it can be quite difficult and time consuming. Eventually we will revisit the concept and see what options we can come up with to faciliate this.

Leaving this ticket open if other users have suggestions, such as sources of gaming trivia that could be researched.

    Thanks!

Having the ability to enable Email Notifications for new comments on pending entries could help notify users in a more convenient way.

Hey! There is very much a need for this absolutely. However it wouldn’t be a simple implementation at this point of time.

We’ll definitely stay in touch when we proceed forward!
    thanks

  20. When Bundles include titles of a long running series, it is possible to encounter times that have too many titles to display with the basic name.

    Ex. Mega Man (1).
