  4. By showing the version title, it would be easier to know which version is which for games with the same name in different versions. It could be shown in front of the release date.

  5. For games and platforms there could be an icon imagem, of small size, which could be used as a visualization flair on the website and also as a data point for the API, as applications could use them to their UIs.

  6. Noting the [CN] China region as well as [KR] Korea, but it is worth adding that releasing in mainland China is and has been EXCEPTIONALLY difficult for western publishers, which is why most devs have historically opted to release in [HK] Honk Kong or [TW] Taiwan and let those sales be an "in" to the region.

    This is interesting, so even though TW or HK release are a way to enter the Mainland market, they are actually different? in terms of content and/or release dates?

    Sounds like we need to investigate this further.
    If you happen to have example of some titles please share them in a comment in here as that would help.

    Thanks!

  7. Right now there seems to be some confusion with the available options for Genres and Themes. Some options are missing, others are in Themes whereas they would make more sense in Genres, and yet others are way too broad to be descriptive and informative.

    My suggestion is first to determine what is a Genre and what is a Theme, and convey that to all the data contributors. I suggest to define "Genre" as something that indicates HOW the game is played (gameplay rules and elements), and "Theme" as something that indicates WHERE the game is played (setting and lore elements).

    Hey!

    First of all thanks a lot for putting this table together, this for sure will become handy when we research this further.

    We’ve been wanting to revamp our Genres/Themes/Keywords for a while, it’s a fairly big undertaking that implies a taxonomy upgrade.
    We’ve discussed making use of a sub categories to avoid redundancy and more accuracy for example.

    While this isn’t on our radar just yet, i would say it is pretty high up our list of feature upgrade. We’ll keep in touch when we start this project!

  8. I've noticed a large number of my games have no critic rating in gog due to gog using igdb for their database.

    There also appears to be no way of adding critic reviews or flagging a game as requiring them?

    Would it be possible to have this feature and perhaps provide a link to another website that has documented them to speed up the process? This way they can still be vetted by yourselves.

  9. The game bundle SEGA Mega Drive & Genesis Classics (https://www.igdb.com/games/sega-mega-drive-and-genesis-classics) contains a large amount of games on the webpage, but in the API only one game is returned, sonic:

  10. On a number of company pages, the game list does not appear, and games associated with the company can only be viewed within the timeline element (which does not display games without a release date, and is slow to reflect updates). This issue seems prevalent among company pages with relatively few games, although that might not be the direct cause.

    Examples:

  11. The element used for browsing lists of games that fit a certain page’s criteria (e.g. game engine pages, category/keyword pages, franchise pages) sometimes does not display the pagination, preventing users from seeing any games beyond the first 10 shown. Changing the sort mode can allow you to see a different slice of 10 games, thus verifying that there should be additional pages visible.

    some examples:
    https://www.igdb.com/game_engines/bitsy

  13. The current popularity value for a game doesn't make any sense.
    Please see below examples showing the popularity value with the hypes, and number of user ratings.

    "id": 115278,
    "hypes": 1,
    "name": "Rune Factory 4 Special",
    "popularity": 2090.622837928576

    "id": 120268,
    "name": "Zombie Driver: Immortal Edition",
    "popularity": 1431.973719413489

    As you can see, the top 2 games by popularity both have 0 user ratings. How can these be the most popular games on IGDB?

    The docs say 'The popularity number is calculated using usage statistics of game pages at https://www.igdb.com' which can't possibly be true if these games are at the…

    We’re not currently supporting popularity unfortunately, the existing hypes in the API are out of date and therefore out of sync, which is very likely why you’re getting those games as results.

    We will be updating our documentation to reflect this, but meanwhile we recommend not using Popularity since it isn’t providing an accurate count.

  14. The 'follow' attribute for a game is never returned from the API.
    For example, I would expect the following query to return "follows": 466 (as per the website).

    fields name, follows, hypes;
    where name ~ "last of us: part";
    limit 10;

    Instead, I get:

    "id": 26192,
    "hypes": 325,
    "name": "The Last of Us: Part II"

    Hey there, we don’t actively support Follows (and Hype) as a data point. We need to update our documentation to reflect this, apologies.

    Follow is part of the private endpoint we are sunsetting.

  15. Query: fields id,name,externalgames.*; search "magic the gathering";where externalgames.uid = "2748";limit 1;'

    There are two categories 3 in the returned object, which does not correspond to an enum in the documentation; a category 3 corresponding to giantbomb can be added which would fix this.

    – Physical media: big box, jewel case only, DVD, paper sleeve etc.
    – Digital

  18. http://retroachievements.org/ is a platform which provides achievements for retro games running in emulators, Currently there are only achievement categories for Steam, PSN and Xbox.

    If we had a RetroAchievements category we could add achievements to thousands of games which may never have achievement's otherwise. It would be very cool for things like GOG Galaxy 2.0 integration plugins

    Heya!

    This is interesting for sure, we would have to look into it. One thing that comes to mind is whether or not those achievement lists are official, or approved by the original developer/publisher, as this could prove tricky from an IP perspective. Since we would redistribute the data, we’re very careful about the source and provenance.

    We’ll be looking into this internally first. Thanks!

  19. Ability to add game-specific controllers/accessories to their page. For example the guitar in guitar hero games, the camera with Eyetoy games, the dance mat for DDR games and so on. Along with the option to set whether the item is mandatory or not.

  20. I'm having an issue where preforming API searches doesn't return games that exists on the IGDB site.

    For example, these two Pokemon games exist on IGDB:
    https://www.igdb.com/games/pokemon-x
    https://www.igdb.com/games/pokemon-y

    But when I search via the API I get no results back.

    I'm searching this endpoint:
    https://api-v3.igdb.com/games

    And here's my search body:
    search "Pokémon x"; fields id,name,cover.imageid,firstrelease_date; where cover != null; limit 5;

    I get an empty JSON result.

    Hey there.
    Search in the API is indeed in need of a big overhaul, this is planned and in our backlog, unfortunately it isn’t on our immediate roadmap and therefore not currently being worked on.
    Apologies in the meantime, we will keep our API community up to date as soon as work on this feature begins.
