How it works:
  • Choose a relevant category for your idea and check to see if any other users have already submitted this suggestion before creating your own
  • Be clear with your suggestion, provide examples and solutions to the problem you are posing. Suggestions without actionable feedback may be closed without comment
  • Upvote existing ideas, as opposed to creating multiple similar requests
  • Be sure to share your suggestion with others to gain more support!
  • Note: Suggestions are not guarantees that we will take action on an idea. We will try our best to communicate why an idea may not work, but may not always be able to share that information.
  • Titles that are unclear or unnecessarily vulgar may be reworded to better reflect the request for ease of discovery

  1. Currently keywords are just a dumping ground for any word or phrase that is somewhat related to a game.

    Perhaps what is needed is a re-definition or splitting up of keywords into:

    Game mechanics (keywords)
    Atmospheric/visual (keywords)
    Player character (keywords)
    Other/Minor (keywords)

    Let's take the "rain" keyword for example. Currently there are 310 games with this keyword assigned. These games feature rain to various degrees for various purposes:

    Gameplay: Rain (Game) - a core mechanic where your character is invisible unless they stand in the rain.
    Atmospheric: Deadly Premonition - it rains for most of the game, and the raincoat…

    Hey Barry!
    Yes absolutely this is planned. While External Games and External Websites are separate they are closely related and may tackle them together.

    For External Games this will be a big focus for us going forward.
    Stay tuned!

  5. When a entry is "deleted" in favor of a duplicate.

    Send a update for and update both entries.

    The old/dead entry, remove all data (consider the remove optional) and add a

    replaced_by: new_id

    entry.

    The new entry is updated with an existed_as which is an array of "old id's" that have been merged into the record

  6. Both Castlevania for the N64 and Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness are missing from the Categories menu of Twitch, but they are not missing from IGDB's site. I have spent the better part of two hours trying to figure out how to inform someone, ANYONE, of this (admittedly small) oversight and ended up here.

    There has to be a better way to inform Twitch/IGDB of problems of this nature than to wander aimlessly around the Twitch help section, then give up and use the feedback forum, hoping that a relatively minor fix will be noticed by someone with the power and…

    Hey there!

    For all things IGDB it is best to come to us directly rather than via Twitch help. Our preferred way is via Discord :)

    Discord: discord.gg/igdb
    Contact form: https://www.igdb.com/feedbacks/new
    Twitter: https://twitter.com/IGDBcom

    Regarding the Twitch categories, while IGDB provides the data but what ends up there is decided by Twitch itself. In the case of Castlevania it is due to the fact Twitch is not ingesting Versions of games at this time. We are however working on expanding the data set so that they can become categories. Stay tuned!

  7. When using a reference ID field, such as requesting https://api.igdb.com/v4/games/ where release_dates.platform [48,49,6]; as shown in an example in the API docs, the API returns a syntax error "You are trying to compare and exact array with an non array field: platform". This seems to be true of any field which is a reference ID when using this syntax. the array OR syntax (48,49,6) works fine.

  8. Adding a Full/Partial Controller Support column for titles in the database.

    This would be monumental for indexing games that can be played from the couch or not.

  9. Currently, the basic search algorithm on IGDB seems to value popularity over anything -- even the title of the game being searched.
    When I searched for "Persona 2", it being a 2-part game, the games "Persona 2: Innocent Sin" and "Persona 2: Eternal Punishment" appear as the 16th and 19th entries down the list respectively, while "Persona 5", by dar the most popular game in the series, showed up first.
    The algorithm needs to prioritize the search input much more than it currently does, as the current system renders inputting sequel or series entry numbers (2, 5 etc.) quite useless.

  10. 3D view of game covers, being able to view the front, sides and back sides.
    Could be nice when having many regions and scanned images of all sides of a box art.

    Hey! For now we’re focusing on a single cover standard. Which we’ll then expand to other regions to be able to cover more types of users for this standard.

    Once we have good coverage of those we may start looking at additional aspects such as sides, back of cover etc..

    Thanks!

  12. My idea is simple; adding GameFAQ pages to the possible website additions on the website. This will allow people easy access to both answers to questions they might have regarding the game as well as a walkthrough if needed.

  13. I find filtering options missing in the results of the Karma Hunters sections.

    For example to be able to filter in the section "Missing Covers" by platform, or in the section "Under 25% Information" by "Empty developer", "Empty Publisher", etc ..

    Having these filtering options would make easy, and also would encourage users, to fill in missing information

    Heya!

    We actually used to have apps, but our (IGDB) team is quite small we decided to terminate them as we couldn’t guarantee high quality support for them. We don’t plan to refocus on apps until we can guarantee that seal of quality again.

    However we do plan on revisiting and improving our mobile site before then!

    Stay tuned :)

  16. Many companies exist on the site under two or more names, with a number of games attributed to each of the various forms of their name. A procedure to flag and combine these disparate developer and publisher listings under a single company name would allow this data to be cleaned up and made more useful.

  17. This is only a minor pet-peeve and super conditional, but there are times when Titles with the same name are released in the same year. This makes it fairly difficult to differentiate titles from each other when you are adding titles into various lists in the Edit menus. (Bundled Games, Versions, etc.) Most of the time you will see a year of the release in these menus, but there are examples of different versions released in the same year.

    I will sometimes add the platform to the title of a game to help this, but this isn't the cleanest look…

  19. Something that would mirror my preferences from Twitch, as well as save battery life on mobile phones/laptops and be easier on the eyes from all the stark white would be the ability to have a Site-wide Dark Mode.

    There are a few displays this would probably help as well, like you're daily output graph on the Karma Hunters page, which can be difficult to view on some LCD monitors at non-optimal viewing angles.

  20. My Search query to IGDB API is failing with status code 400 if the search text contains a back slash \ in it:
    I am using below syntax:
    const { q } = req.query
    let fields = name, collection
    apicalypse(requestOptions)
    .fields(fields)
    .limit(50)
    .search(q)
    .request('/games')
    .then(response => returnResponse(response, req, res))
    .catch(err => returnError(err, req, res))

    requestOptions are like this:
    const apiPath = 'https://api-v3.igdb.com'
    const defaultHeaders = {
    'Accept': "application/json",
    "user-key": apiKey
    }
    // Apicalypse Request Options
    const requestOptions = {
    queryMethod: 'body',
    method: 'post', // The default is get
    baseURL: apiPath,
    headers: defaultHeaders,
    responseType: 'json',
