Improved Editor Role
A channel editor is probably the biggest role any streamer can give a person, but the channel editor can't do as much as they should be allowed to do. A channel editor should be able to do more than just create highlights, run commercials, etc. When a person is promoted to a channel editor, that means the streamer gives them their ultimate trust. So what should an editor be able to do, but can't at this current time? Here are some ideas:
Moderate the moderators | Just as any other broadcaster can, a channel editor should be allowed to purge/timeout/ban moderators who are not channel editors. They should also in turn, be able to add/remove moderators. There may be cases where chat gets out of hand with not only the viewers but also some moderators, instead of the broadcaster having to deal with it, the channel editor should be able to so that the broadcaster can continue with his/her stream and not have to worry about chat drama.
Edit panels | There are times where streamers want to edit their panels, but either don't have the time to or don't know how to do something in particular. A channel editor should be able to edit the panels the way the broadcaster wants. Maybe there was typo a that looks unprofessional or an outdated piece of information that needs fixing.
Submit artwork for partnered streamers | A new emote slot opens up for a partnered streamer, and maybe the streamer isn't in a position to submit a new emote. Why not allow the channel editor to do so for the streamer? That way the new emote comes in right away instead of having to have people wait for a new emote.
There are other things that could be added to. Along side with this, an editor should have a badge of recognition. That way people know they aren't an ordinary mod.

this was planned in 2018. Its almost 2024. Can we get an update or feedback on this please?

i agree, streamers should have the option that youtube and even chat bots have, to choose which permissions they want someone to have. It's a pain to not be able to help a streamer with more things when they fully trust you and in bigger channels streamers have no time to deal with every moderation detail.

why not let the streamer decides what every role can do to help him with streaming? Checkboxes or triggers to turn on/off for moderator and editor roles. It works great on discord, where the owner can choose what every role can or cannot do. And i'm not saying to give them power all over vips and subs, just give the streamers the power to make their choice. My partnered streamer needs help with channel points, with panels editor and to help him, even being an editor, I need to be with him on a call and tell him - step by step - what he needs to do. Would be much more easier for him, for me, and I believe, for a lot of streamers let them decides what a moderador and an editor can do to help the channel. Of course you will not let them "give" power to see/change stream key or personal data, like payments and personal info (address, phone etc).
By the way, this is almost 5 years old, it says planned. When? 2030?

As an editor, I don't want power over moderators. I do agree with editing panels. The streamer I edit for I also help created/format her panels. Being able to update them for her would be super helpful. But maybe instead of a flat "editors do this", it can be an optional permission? Like a checkbox that says editors can edit panels as well.

No, I think there should be more different roles. The things you mention are more intended for a manager role. then editor.

at least give the role a badge, there's an emote artist badge but no editor badge?

Personally disagree with Editors having power over moderators- I think strictly separate roles make more sense.
Although I do agree that an editor having the ability to change panels (perhaps with a button the streamer needs to press to confirm later) and being able to submit new graphics and emotes could also help streamers- especially large ones. -

I like the idea to break it in a permission like approach like discord, additionally I would like to see permission to the stream settings, analytics, unban request etc.
a lot of streamers have one mod who manages a lot, even the other mods, so it would be nice to get the ability for that. -

I'm also supporting a discord like approach.
Break all privileged functions down into single permissions and give the broadcaster the ability to create custom roles with the privileges they seem fit.Maybe have permission presets (e.g. resembling the old "Moderator" / "Editor" roles) for starters who dont know the meaning of each permissions yet.

Creators need a function to highlight a viewer like in bold, cursive and something like that. It would help alot to connect with our viewers!

Agreeing with others - the current mod/editor roles are not sufficient. Truly the "editor" role should be more about clips and vods than moderating, and there should be more advanced moderator permission options.
Preferably, a streamer should be able to define several "tiers" of moderator role and assign them individually. That way a streamer may have many normal moderators and a few admins who have access to the higher order operations.
The fact that a moderator can start a raid but they can't manage the VIP list, is a bit ridiculous. So, there needs to be additions made to the list of controls and options moderators have, but the streamer should be able to decide which controls moderator tiers have access to instead of this current all-or-nothing approach which means a streamer must either go without someone having these tools or risk giving tools to people they may not want to have them.
A moderator permissions overhaul is long overdue.
What the OP seems to be suggesting though is there should also be a "Channel Manager" role. Someone who has access to A LOT of options regarding the broadcasters channel and can manage most, if not all, standard broadcaster features. I believe this is also an important feature, but this should be inherently distinct from "moderators".

There is another submission regarding discord-like roles/permissions and that is what this should really be. Channels should be able to have a few roles.. Super Mod, Mod, VIP for example (the names don't really matter) that permissions can be assigned to.
Essentially anything in the streamer dashboard that doesn't reveal personal information should be able to be ticked on or off for a role, as well as any in-chat functions including all / commands and new functions like predictions. There are plenty of examples out there in the form of chatbots and discord that show not only how this could be implemented but the demand.
For larger channels this is long, long overdue. Its a bit nuts that channels large enough to actually employ moderators have no ability to let others manage these elements of their stream and channel without providing them their credentials.

Additionally, they should be able to edit channel points as well as VIP badges. I can't count how many times an idea has been made and would be nice for an editor to easily go into settings and swap VIP roles and channel point redemptions while the streamer is busy.

Seriously, its almost 2022... 4 years for this on a planned status and 6 years since the idea is posted.
Gives you something to think about...

In addition to all the other items listed here, Editor view in the Twitch dashboard doesn't seem to be as comprehensive as Mod view. For example, in Editor view I can view/snooze ads for a channel I'm an Editor for, but I cannot easily view the users in chat or gift subs as I can in Mod view. The ability to gift subs simply isn't there in Editor view, and Mods cannot snooze/run ads as the panel is not available in mod view. There needs to be better cross-over when somebody has multiple roles so that they can be effective from one page instead of needing to have multiple pages open for their different roles.
