We need the ability, without workarounds, to open the highlighter for unpublished VODs so we can work on them and perform all of the regular actions that we can do on published VODs.

As workaround you can take the id from
Creator Dashboard > Content > Video Producer > Clicking on unpublished VOD
Check URL for the VOD Number
https://dashboard.twitch.tv/u/channel/content/video-producer/edit/0123456789
and just put it in
https://www.twitch.tv/videos/0123456789
gives you the normal VOD Page with all the same Elements incl. Clip Button

I don't get why it's not already like that. Nobody who works in UX or legal dep would come to the conclusion that the current Twitch way is the proper.

At the very least the could give us a Reason why we shouldnt be allowed to do it, or why they can't easily do it right away. It seems so obvious and essential!

Please implement this, several times I have accidentally said phone numbers and such on stream or info that I'd really not want the public to know, and immediately go to unpublish. But then I can't highlight it, and have to republish it and positionally risk that info being seen. I don't like that, as someone else here said that's a major security concern, and it would be a major improvement if we could edit unpublished Vods

being able to clip parts of my unpublished videos would be awesome ! i dont want to publish hours of the stream, I would rather post highlights and have someone want to come into the live stream to see the rest

I have a 6 hour VOD - during that VOD I accidentally doxxed myself, showing private information. I unpublish the VOD so that people can't see it or clip me, but now I can't highlight the rest of my VOD without putting the video up and allowing a window where I could be doxxed over a short window. Therefore this is a security concern, and quite important.

My channel was switched to unpublishing VODs by default because of copyrighted music detected. The email I received said "your default stream settings were updated to store new VODs in an unpublished state for your review first." How am I supposed to review it or edit it without publishing it?
