Preferred/Disliked ad categories
I would really like it if ads were categorized based on content; I love seeing ads for things like pizza and restaurants, but I HATE having to sit through an unskippable ad for a horror movie/show. If ads were categorized, there could be a section in Twitch options where I could move different tags into "show me more" and "show me less" status based on what I do or don't want to see.
I completely understand your preference for categorized ads like https://openingtoclosehours.com/ ! It would be great to have more control over the content we're exposed to, allowing users to customize their ad experience based on personal interests. Your suggestion for a feature in Twitch to manage preferred and disliked categories is a thoughtful idea.
This. I loathe horror-content and getting ads for that genre directly put me into a bad mood. It's obnoxious in the extreme and I have to immediately mute Twitch and do something else while the ad is rolling. It's infuriating.
I have been sober from alcohol for over 10 years. Twitch has no option to disable ads based on alcohol content. In 2020-2021, if you marked an ad as offensive, Twitch would market that ad genre more to you because you interacted with it, resulting in alcohol ad after alcohol ad. That is harassment with no ambiguity. I suspect the same is true for jump-scare ads. Don't like an ad? If you mark it as offensive, then, you must want more of that ad since you interacted with it.
The jumpscare ads around Halloween and a full two months before seems to have garnered more traction for this post.
Currently, most ads I'm getting have excessive flashing lights.
Just another reminder that this post has been here for 8 years, and Twitch is still preying on us, pushing us to buy subscriptions to channels and Turbo. This is not how ads should be managed, but it seems they care more about squeezing out cash than improving the viewing experience.
There is definitely some kind of targeting control needed with ads. Twitch wants us to self-label if something contains certain content types. Twitch should also allow us to block the same. If I'm streaming a mario game, I don't think it's appropriate to show ads for horror films.
This can be accomplished most easily by taking into account the category's own rating, and just having a toggle in the ad revenue page to "restrict ads to below this rating, when not in a game category (will reduce revenue.)" To account for Just Chatting, Art, and ASMR.
In addition to this, PLEASE STOP putting ads for Mature media on streams that are tagged to be Family Friendly!
Really hoping this will have a solution now since I went a few weeks without being spammed horror ads and now I'm having to sit through them yet again, especially in the evening/night. I'm obviously not the demographic so I hope Twitch and the advertisers can just show me pizza/milk/pet food ads or literally anything other than horror ads...
It has been the only category of ads I have this issue with and I don't know why it's so hard to listen to the feedback.
Good to see this picking up traction, again. This request has existed for 8 years. Hopefully, it sticks, this time.
I'm so glad others are talking about this. The horror ads are very triggering and make me just want to close the stream all together.
Please no horror ads! or a way to opt out. I have to mute and switch screens or just leave twitch all together. I guess I will just watch Youtube for the month of October if something is done.
GET RID OF EXORCIST AD
Please just get rid of the Exorcist ad and other horror ads PLEASE or have a setting to disable ads for mature audiences. Scares tf out of me and I'm an adult
same thing here, I keep getting horror movie ads I never asked for.
Now imagine when it shows up in the middle of a quiet ASMR stream, it is HIGHLY disruptive. Give us control over what we want to see or at least a feedback button on the last ads we had.
Watch Party Animals at night when advertisement suddenly advertises the new Exorcist movie, the two little girls and music scare the **** out of me, I just went and read news. I nearly had an heart attack
When can we stop with the horror movie ads and realize that they make a lot of people uncomfortable. Especially kids and anyone with anxiety issues. I'm going to have to just turn twitch off when I have family over because the screaming of bloody murder with paranormal jump scares on the TV is just killing the ambiance of what we are trying to achieve by using twitch in the first place.
It's just frustrating at this point. Twitch obviously doesn't care. There are literally years worth of comments dating back to 2015 asking them to disable horror ads but here we are with the umpteenth exorcism reboot advertisement with screams of people dying and pleading for their lives. But I guess since it contributes to their ad-revenue we'll just have to deal with it for find a different platform. Shame on you twitch.
It triggers PTSD.
No horror movie advertising. It triggers PTSD.
Why do i have to see horror movies adv when I am very susceptible to them?
I want to speak with an admin.
Would be great to have an option to disable horror movie adverts. When you're relaxing with a comfy stream, last thing you want is screaming, blood and creepy faces interupting you. Always worse around halloween but would be good year round.
I only see Twitch benefitting from more targeted ads. Showing certain ads to audiences that have either a dislike or an aversion to them is pointless.
Horror has audiences. Large audiences, to be sure, but not everyone is a part of those audiences. Showing graphic or shocking imagery to those not well suited to handle it without an option out of it is irresponsible.
