Whisper Filtering / Moderation
A lot of streamers with whispers enabled have been harassed by someone via them. I know you can block whispers from strangers, but there are various beneficial reasons we may want to keep them enabled. Even just checking the whisper tab shows you the last message someone sent, and a lot of the times we really don't want to see that (for so many reasons I don't have to go into - discrimination, harassment, sexual content, hostility, etc).
I would like to propose easy moderation options for whispers, specifically message filtering.
I would love something similar to Chat AutoMod settings for whispers, where we can BLOCK or have messages hidden if they contain specific phrases (such as sexual, bullying / aggression, racism, misogyny, etc). You could also block links or have spam filtering too.
I truly believe these moderation / filtering options (or defaults) for whispers would benefit everyone on Twitch.
Thank you for considering this.

100% agree - as a streamer, I keepmy whispers open for giveaways and because moderators know I don't look at discord during streams, so if there's an emergency they'll send a Twitch whisper.
Without moderation options though, it's also one of the easiest ways for people to harass us.
It would be great to have some options...I'll give a practical example of two options I'd keep turned on:
- allow whispers from moderators of your channel
- allow whispers from people you whispered to first -

Whispers are a good tool but I also wish there were some moderation filter/toggles. Like maybe sub only, or account verification for whispers? There should def be more toggles to control whispers other than on/off.

I could not agree more that a feature like this is needed; everyone would absolutely benefit. Message filtering would solve a lot of problems while allowing whispers to remain open (much like Discord has Message Requests). It would also make the platform much safer as a whole.
As a moderator, I'm somewhat required to leave my whispers open to handle any questions/requests, or other matters that need to be addressed outside of chat, but with that also comes some negativity. Perhaps also allowing streamers/mods the ability to ban directly from whispers could be a nice addition as well (at least while in Mod View).
An overhaul to the whispers UI could also be helpful. A set of tabs, one for filtered/AutoModed messages and another for a general inbox, with a way to archive messages without outright deleting them, could work well.
A really great idea, and an easy way to make the platform a more welcoming and safe space for everyone.

Sounds like a solid idea.

Seconded! I personally use whispers as a way to facilitate giveaways so we keep everything on the platform- but I'd love more filters for whispers, especially as a femme presenting creator. I would love to filter out phrases to protect my mental!
