Do not impliment the AI auto clip tool
Twitch has implemented a sign up for an AI alpha auto clip tool. This is very unethical in many ways to not just content creation but also to things outside content creation.
I ask twitch to remove this sign up and not engage in any use of AI when it comes to content creation.
Facts about AI usage
- Google’s single Iowa data center alone consumed 1 billion gallons of water in 2024. The first way AI uses water is for cooling. Data centers run thousands of powerful computers around the clock. As these machines crunch numbers and manage data, they generate a lot of heat.
To keep everything running smoothly, water is often used in cooling systems. This can mean circulating water through pipes to absorb heat or using evaporative cooling towers that release warm air.
Ai is trained to use already created content for training with out user consent. This has already been happening on social media. Twitch's AI clip tool ''claims'' they will not use user generated clips with out consent for training to assume what constitutes as high engagement moments for clip creation.
- AI data centers now generate 2.5–3.7% of global greenhouse gas emissions, officially surpassing the aviation industry’s 2% contribution while growing 15% annually.
It is very important that people speak up and say no to the AI clip tool especially partners and ambassadors as this tool is very harmful to the community.
Turning it off as an option is not enough.

Polls done by Pew Research earlier this year asked people around the world how they view AI. The response for the majority of people are "more concerned than excited" about AI. A 2023 study posted in ScienceDirect found people prefer human art and music over AI art, perceiving human made arts as being more creative and awe inspiring. And another 2023 study, this one done by Gartner, looked at AI use in customer service and recorded an overwhelming majority backlash against it, "The survey, which was conducted in December 2023 and involved over 5,700 customers, found that a whopping 64 percent of respondents said that they would prefer companies not to use AI in customer service. But over half — 53 percent — took an even harder line: they’d consider switching to a competitor if they learned a company was using AI in a customer service role — a staunch rebuttal to employers trying to automate this sector."
Twitch is built on community. If you outsource that community, you risk alienating the very people that make up those communities. And as others have mentioned, AI is raising our carbon emissions and water use by a large factor making it a serious threat to human health and our environment. Do not buy into the AI bubble.

No one wants an AI tool for this. If Twitch rolls this out I will be looking for alternative platforms to take my community to. Yikes.
Please do not add AI tools like this to twitch.

For the love of all that is good and holy, Twitch, please do not do this. I literally took the time to stop doing stuff I enjoy doing, dragged my *** back to my PC and logged in just to vote NO on this.
Please just DO NOT.

Of all the impractical applications for AI, this proposal is, by and large, the most idiotic. Developing and implementing this will ultimately prove costly and unnecessary, and viewers and streamers alike will bear the brunt of that cost.
Too many companies are embracing AI, not because it makes any sense in the context of their business plan, but rather because "visionaries" are promising things they simply can't deliver, and the financial sector keeps throwing free money their way, which convinces everyone that AI is something that it is not. It is a bubble, in more ways than one.
If this feature is implemented, one of two things will happen
A. This tool simply won't work in the way Twitch, or anyone else wants it to work. Twitch will quietly remove the feature and slink away with their tail between their legs
B. This tool will work as envisioned. However, it will lead to additional costs, which Twitch will either address by placing this tool behind a paywall (because who *wouldn't* pay for something you have plenty of viewers willing to do for free), or by doing something else to cut costs, which, again, will ***** over viewers and streamers.
I don't have an ax to grind against AI in and of itself. It is merely a tool. I take issue with those who don't weigh the benefits against the costs, as well as those who simply don't care about the costs. There are virtually no benefits to be had here. Others have noted the costs. This is just another AI circle-jerk that never needed to happen, and demonstrates fully how poorly the tech sector is doing the job of policing itself.
I encourage anyone reading this to pledge not to spend a cent on twitch if this goes through, and to say so here.

please, please, please do not implement this this tool. it's terrible for the environment, studies have shown that it removes skills that are not consistently practiced, and I smell the lawsuit of them stealing our data anyway a mile away. Get rid of genAI, stop making it easier for them to steal our faces!

On top of the moral, ecological and ethical concerns which others have already covered, why would I want an AI to clip streams anyway? It's not going to know what a good clip is. An AI can't tell what's funny or interesting. It's a computer program, not a human that knows anything. People picking out funny parts of the stream and clipping them is fun for some people. AI has no place on Twitch and should have no place in content creation on any platform. Try uplifting the real people that use your platform.

Whatever would be spent to implement AI tools into Twitch to use OUR data/likeness/voice more than you already do SHOULD be spent on tools and services that actually benefit the people that allow this website to continue to exist: your creators and viewers. Stop using AI tools, stop taking shortcuts, and stop wasting money on the same things other companies are wasting their money on. Y'all need to focus on the things that will make the experience better for your users and KEEP them on your platform, not money grabs and worthless tools that will drive actual humans with the ability to process thoughts away from your site and your services.

I think people have a better sense of humor for what to clip than what AI will do. Also it's not necessary at all because there's already the tools for clipping for us to do at anytime, and having AI try to deem what's funny will most likely result in lackluster results. Also it will clog up a streamer's page.

You would think that Twitch would have learned its lesson after the AI-generated emote scandal, but I guess the message just wasn't enough for the AI addicts that must not appreciate their own jobs.
Generative AI has NO PLACE in content creation. AT. ALL.
YouTube is absolutely flooded with AI slop and the platform is worse off for it. Twitch will end up the same if they buy in to the lie that AI is the future. It's not. It's just another extremely expensive and resource wasteful fad, just like Crypto and NFTs.
Do better Twitch. Protect your creators from this parasitic technology. Don't embrace it.
