[Experiment] Research Tab & "Time to Stream" Analytics
We're introducing a new tab called Research to Analytics in your Creator Dashboard. With it, streamers can view a panel that provides daily and hourly insight for the best times to stream, based on a particular category, in order to grow their audience.
We'd love to hear feedback on what other information you might find valuable in the Research tab, or how design could be improved to help you better understand whatever it may be that can help you make more informed choices as a streamer.
Hi all,
We're letting you know that Time to Stream should now be available to all users. Based on feedback & engagement, we've decided to implement the bar chart view to keep things easier to understand. Additionally, numbers for Channels and Viewers can be seen along with average viewers per channel. If you have any other feedback for the Research page, please feel free to share it here. Thank you!

Realmente adorei o novo painel. Com isso eu posso saber o melhor momento para as minhas lives e testar novos horários. Obrigado por mais esta ferramenta!
Uma pena que ainda não haja dados suficientes para o filtro "América Latina".

Hey y'all - this feature is super interesting! For the future, I would love if you could select multiple regions at a time to see how they overlap. I would also like to echo the other comments that sorting by tags would be a great addition.

I'm glad you included the option to exclude large streamers. Could we get a definition of "large"? Is it 10k? 1k? 100? 30? Category-relative (but what does that mean?)

I think this is a really interesting feature for streamers interested in stats, the only thing I will say is if you say exactly when the best viewer numbers are, then why would anyone stream any other time? This could be a problem when tons of streamers move their streams to fit these "perfect" times meaning Twitch could end up top heavy in a way that increases streamer traffic in an already crowded time on a platform where discoverability is already a struggle and could discourage streamers cause "I work/go to school/sleep during these perfect times so I won't make it"

Doing a spot check on the average numbers per channel and whats actually happening in that channel it was fairly off for the 3 suggested games you gave me. I love the idea though. Please continue to expand on this feature.

Having the Research tab tell me my optimum go-live time is 4AM is not super useful, I'd love to be able to filter than down to a region or streamers in my time zone or something, the data I've been given just feels way too Americanised for an Australian like me. Browsing through some other feedback, it looks like some categories can be filtered by region, maybe try expanding that to other categories, even if there's not much data. Even better, let me filter it down, and provide a warning box: "Your filters have resulted in a very small amount of data, this may result in inaccuracies."

A friend and I were looking at the exact same settings (EU4 + English + Any Region + 28 Day Average + Exclude Large Streamers) and yet we were getting different tables. The only difference is that he is on PDT and I am on EDT. My peak was 16.4 viewers/channel ratio at 3PM EDT, and his peak was 16.4 at 6PM PDT. It's like the time zone shift is reversed of what it should be.
** Time zone conversions appear to be incorrect **

Please allow us to sort by individual tags rather than just game categories. As a variety streamer, most of my discoverability comes in through tags instead of games.

This is a nice start but it needs to be more tailored to each individual streams so they can see their overall health and not the health of the world so to speak. This is to broad and new streamers will be set up for failure, especially if they choose to stream a popular game when theres the highest peak and will end up not getting many viewers since they'll be competing with the big dogs.
I love how you guys over at twitch on implenting new changes and I love research and numbers so make this great. I can't wait to see the final finish!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can we get a statement as part of the guide on why this means more reach? Is there data Twitch has that shows more viewers in a category = audience growth?
If I understand, the experiment says this is a visualization of Avg. Viewers per Channel (category), by day of the week. That assumes people are actively searching in that category -- vs. simply showing what people are streaming & when.
I get it. More eyeballs in general implies more people are looking for streams in that category. But wouldn't this need to only show views or stream clickthrough that come from people who viewed the category page by navigating or searching for tags, categories, etc.? Or, perhaps does it and that's not stated?
Beyond that, the tool I was hoping for here was showing when *your* recent viewers (follower or non-follower passerby) are watching Twitch (when they aren't watching your channel).
Any tools to aid discovery are a step forward, so appreciate the efforts nonetheless.
On that note, putting data aside -- it seems the biggest needs for discovery are a redesign of Twitch's front page, apps, and related algorithms.

The numbers are so similar that unfortunately this tool just isn't very useful. The numbers are also below my average, so it doesn't seem like very applicable data. There are an average of 8 viewers at 2AM, but 9 at noon...how is that useful?
What we need, desperately, are data about tags. We have no clue what tags users are searching for, we don't know what tags they're choosing to watch. Ever since you made it so any word is a tag, it's impossible to know what tags are actually in use. How do I know if "Education" is better than "Educational?" You're not showing them both to users who search, but I don't have the data I need to pick them.
Focus on fixing tags & giving us useful data about those. This timesheet grid of 1-viewer margin differences is not useful, I'm sorry.
