Highlighter Bugs: timecode mismatches, inconsistency between Twitch and YouTube, lost audio
I use the Highlighter to trim my VODs. Highlights are then added to themed Collections on Twitch, and are also exported to YouTube. Today is 1st October, and within the last week I have noticed a frustrating inconsistency between the Highlight video playback on Twitch and the version exported to YouTube. Highlights I’ve created before 19th September are not affected.
In summary.
A Highlight video is made with single or multiple segments based on the VOD timecodes. The authored Highlight video in the Twitch video player does not play the segments at the timecodes set in the editor, instead each segment starts eight seconds earlier than instructed, ruining the edit. The Highlight is also exported to YouTube, however the editing issues do not carry over and the video plays each segment at the correct VOD timecode.
This creates a trust issue with the Highlighter. I have previously used it to make Highlights for Twitch, and to export results to YouTube. I now cannot do this because the resulting video is no longer consistent. To work around this, I would have to make two highlights per VOD where one has deliberately incorrect timecodes to account for the Twitch bug, and the other has correct timecodes for export to YouTube.
In detail.
I have created a test suite of Highlights from the following VOD: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1935781872.
Here are the results
Test 1, single segment using exact timecode.
• VOD Timecode: 25:35
• Twitch Highlight: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1939839009
• YouTube version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IjoS8cmT56Y
• Result: Twitch version does not play correctly (bad), YouTube version plays as intended (good).
Test 2, single segment using timecode + 8 seconds.
• VOD Timecode: 25:35
• Twitch Highlight: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1939839008
• YouTube version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R7nbwAcpbxs
• Result: Twitch version plays as intended despite incorrect timecodes (good result, bad method), YouTube version plays at the new timecodes (bad).
Test 3, multiple segments (30 seconds each) using exact timecodes.
• VOD Timecodes: 25:35; 42:42; 1:31:13; 2:15:16.
• Twitch Highlight: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1939861958
• YouTube version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zFM2QvrFb8g
• Result: Twitch version does not play correctly (bad), YouTube version plays as intended (good). Notice the YouTube version is missing the last two seconds of audio in segments 1, 3 and 4.
Test 4, multiple segments (30 seconds each) using timecodes + 8 seconds.
• VOD Timecodes: 25:35; 42:42; 1:31:13; 2:15:16.
• Twitch Highlight: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1939866169
• YouTube version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7bcj1kj0sZM
• Result: Twitch version plays as intended despite incorrect timecodes (good result, bad method), YouTube version plays as intended (good). Notice the YouTube version is missing the last two seconds of audio in all segments.
