Consider also, how collaborative twitch communities tend to be. I understand that Twitch wants people to push these hype trains several times, but we as players of the game that is Twitch like to help other people get the cool things we've already gotten. So when we see another 4000 people in chat that weren't a part of the first train, we want to start another to help those new people get it too.

So ultimately I don't think it'll cost Twitch anything to give us all these emotes, and it would improve player perception, improving the odds of pushing to higher hype trains, because negative player perception of having these accomplishments taken away because we were "too good" will disincentivise people continue engaging in the hype train because of the sour taste in their mouths.

Three times, now, including absolutely shattering the 100 level maximum reward for the KappaInfinite emote, to the tune of 106 levels, causing slowdown in the Twitch API. If this doesn't deserve commemoration, I don't know what does.

You know why you want this. You want this because you get to take your cut from creators instead of viewers. But you know where you screwed up? By taking your cut from the viewer buying the bits, you allied with us, because both of us wanted to get gratuity from the viewer, and based on the quality of the content, it allied us with the viewer. Everyone agreed, we wanted to grab some cash, and throw it around, everyone was happy. Now you're forcing this on people, and you can only opt out, and only before a certain date (and you can't opt out anyone now... why?) so if you miss the email you're just screwed. If your monetization requires bits (mischief Maker, Blerp, soundalerts, Throwing system, etc) you now SIGNIFICANTLY complicate the situation for the viewer who now has to go and find a place on twitch where they can buy said bits, then return to the stream to use them. You and your think tanks know as well as we do if you make a user leave your space, they probably aren't coming back. We know what you're trying to do. You don't get a cut when we put a paypal link on our panels, and you want that cut. You're not getting that cut. Our viewers trust us, and the fact that they despise twitch's management has NOTHING to do with streamers, unless you count streamers giving them transparent answers.

Just wanted to update this thread that we are doing an experiment right now with Stream Display Ads!   These are less disruptive ads that allow viewers to see and hear Creators while being displayed. Creators will receive ad revenue for each SDA shown. You can find out more information here: https://twitter.com/TwitchSupport/status/1603148201489580032

Guys, you must understand that the point of running your own ads to shut down pre-roll and mid-roll ads is to give you control over when the ads play so that your community doesn't see an interruption. Since SDA's don't cause an interruption it doesn't make sense for them to affect pre-roll and mid-roll ads. You already have the tools to control that. What it's more likely to do is give Twitch the flexibility to run said ads -less obnoxiously frequently- if and when they are rolled out at scale.

Also please knock it off with telling them we just hate ads, don't run ads, they're a company, they must remain solvent or we all loose a place to stream. And having that place DOES benefit us all as streamers. If you have suggestions as to how one can utilize ads more effectively, less obnoxiously, then yes, please suggest them, not that Twitch will listen, but just saying do away with ads and stop telling us to not use adblock is not beneficial, subscriptions can't sustain twitch at this scale.

@hypefawx Right, here's the problem, how do you see enough of their content to decide this is worth five bucks a month? Hmn? When the best moments are hidden behind two to three minutes of ads? How, as a small streamer, do I coax someone to wait through two minutes of ads to click on my stream at all? The ads encourage people to hunker down, and only watch one or two streamers that they already know are good. Which works fine, for now. But what happens when the current streamers start to leave the platform, or burn out and quit? As a small streamer it's difficult enough to garner attention, but now not only do I have to convince someone to view my stream over someone else's, but I have to convince them it's worth waiting through a few minutes of ads, and I can't even promise they will be able to see my best moments if they do.

At least if I knew when the ads were coming, and it was the same for everyone, I could pause a game (if possible) I could step back, get some water, take a break. And yes, you're right, every platform needs to pull ad revenue. Kinda like how police need to carry guns. It doesn't mean we need to excuse them for shooting themselves in the foot. It's about HOW they monetize the platform, not if they do. There are less intrusive ways to drive revenue. The reason mid-roll ads work on other platforms is because they aren't -live-, you don't -miss- anything. When a mid-roll ad plays on Youtube, the content stops, the ad plays, then the content resumes where you left it. I have never seen a mid-roll ad during live content on Youtube, maybe because they realize it would kneecap their content creators. There's a reason why they're whitelisted in my adblocking software.

And especially at a time when a lot of people have lost their jobs, when money is super tight for everyone, a comment like "Well just sub to everyone you watch LAWL" is tone deaf and lacking in basic human empathy. Few people have that kind of money. I certainly don't. I've been very lucky to be able to maintain the two subscriptions I have on Twitch, I certainly couldn't afford to shell out more money for more subs to the channels I watch.

Moreover there are totally unobtrusive ways to do this. Like market research surveys, or scientific, medical surveys. They already have overlays that allow a streamer to put a poll up on the stream, why not do it with something that gets them a slice of research budget pie? But no let's just excuse Twitch for doing something nobody does because they realize it's stupid. Even good old fashioned televised sports isn't stupid enough to throw in commercials wherever, they throw them during timeouts, halftime, etc. They wait for a break in the content, then run the biggest ads of the year, then go back to the game.

@Lunar_Umbra Well then bye Felicia. Listen, you had me up until you started talking bad about them trying to combat ad-blocking software. Listen, streaming services COST MONEY. If you want that platform to continue to exist you have to pay, now you can choose to pay with your wallet (subscriptions, Twitch Turbo, etc) or you can pay with your eyeballs (ads) but what you -CANT- expect them to do is let millions of people watch for -free- because it costs them to run the thing.

Now you CAN expect them to use ad content in an unabusive fashion. You can expect the right to request ads without tracking or curated content. But getting mad because they won't let you block content carte blanche without consequences? That's just asinine. They have the RIGHT to portray THEIR content however they see fit. And if combating people that are trying to use ad blocking software to leech off the site causes those leeches to go elsewhere, then I'd say that's a pretty successful strategy, and I hope after those leeches are gone, their operating costs go down enough that they can reduce the frequency of said ads a bit, and/or cut us in for a bigger share of ad rev.

I only have control over my ads when I want more ads than twitch does. Which would be equivalent to old network tv stations where they would fill the overnight hours with infomercials. Six straight hours full of slap chop, flex tape, and magic bullet. If I want to run a commercial break once an hour, which I would find a more reasonable rate, then I can't have that. It's 100% impossible.

Not to mention that anyone who's not an affiliate has zero control at all. Since they can't run ads in the first place.

A majority of ads on web and TV apps should now have normalized sound. We are still continuing the work on this and will update the status again when it is fully complete!

@skyMasterPT You sound as though you aren't an affiliate or partner, because they didn't say they are 100% for the creator, it said they "benefit the streamer", which they do. I've been an affiliate for 19 months, I've made $1.10 across those nineteen months. The cut we get of ad revenue is nothing. Ad rev is 90% for twitch, 10% for twitch to be able to say it benefits us.

And as for your point on Point 4, the OP said we already have the button for mid-roll ads. The point is that we should be able to CONTROL mid-roll ads which we currently can't do under this new system. Not realistically. If Twitch wants me to run a mid roll every 15 minutes, then that's not a tennable solution, I can't take breaks every 15 minutes. Now if they let me run 120 sec of ads every hour at the time of my choosing, and it stopped those 15 minute ad breaks that'd be one thing, and I think that's the point the OP was driving at.
