1. BUG - Impossible to Appeal an Indefinite Suspension

   For indefinite suspensions, people are directed to appeal via the appeal portal. If the suspension was related to suspected fraudulent activity, they will receive an automated email stating they need to go to the Help Center and submit a ticket to the Fraud team at Account/Login Issues > Payout Suspension. If the user is NOT logged in, those options are visible, but it directs the user to login. Once logged in, those options are NOT visible. Thus, it is impossible to appeal an indefinite suspension.

2. Ability to upload/add police reports and screenshots to appeals

   Streamers being targeted, spam reported and subsequently banned due to their gender, sexuality, race, etc. should be allowed to add supporting documentation to their ban appeal(s)

   Ex: if a streamer is reported and banned due to "inappropriate attire" but, prior to the report, the streamer was clearly harassed, threatened or hate raided on stream or in their DM's prior to the report/ban by the very person or persons that reported them, then they (the streamer) should be allowed to attach documents which show they were harassed/targeted.

   Hate groups and their members, and some horrible individuals are abusing the 'report user' feature and utilizing it as a means to unjustly harass, deplatform, demonetize and silence streamers based on their gender, race, sexual orientation, etc. If it can be shown that the person or persons reporting a streamer threatened or harassed the streamer prior to making their report, then the ban should be lifted immediately and the individual filing the report, should be banned instead.

   Because this is a growing trend, and abuse of the report user feature has run rampant, streamers, even when banned, should be allowed access to view and download their DM's, VODs, or chat logs so they can provide local law enforcement (and/or Twitch staff) with documents which substantiate any reports they would like to file concerning threats of violence/****/murder/stalking/hate crimes or sexual harassment.

   Several streamers have been targeted and harassed by those on your platform who abuse the 'report user' button to file false reports, and their actions go unpunished. There is an entire Twitter account dedicated to seeing who they can get wrongfully banned and deplatformed, a majority of those they focus on/target and celebrate being banned are women, men of color, and those in the LGBTQ+ community. They literally celebrate their "victories" in using Twitch's faulty bans and appeals systems to get "another _____ banned" it's disgusting.

   The more that women, POC and LGBTQ+ are removed and banned from Twitch, the more these hate groups and their followers will thrive, and it will kill your community, your earnings, and your site.

   Seeing hate groups and racist or misogynistic individuals celebrate online every time they get a female streamer or streamer of color wrongfully banned, watching them brag about who has successfully gotten the most POC or woman or lesbians off the platform, and knowing they used Twitch's own features and faulty system to do it...it's heartbreaking.

   Reporting and banning creators based on their gender, gender identity or race has become a sport to some of your users, and those targeted and banned by these monsters are left with absolutely no voice.

   Individuals affiliated with hate groups are exploiting your faulty report, ban and appeals systems. Meanwhile, your creators, that ones that were actually bringing money to your platform, suffer. POC, women and those in the LGBTQ+ community who were banned unjustly have no means to access their DM's, Chat Logs, etc. and no place in the appeal portal to upload proof to show they were targeted, harassed, or threatened by those reporting them. There's not even a place to attach a police report if you filed on against a person known to harass and report you... you're silencing the victims of hate crimes and targeted attacks, and believing every user that files a report not realizing it's being used as a means to hurt the streamer for no other reason than who they are.

   These hate groups and the individuals that support them will report streamers for things they have not done--yet filing a false report or spam reporting comes with no consequences, why? Currently, the report, ban, and appeals systems are designed in a way where banned streamers can't see who reported them, they can't provide evidence of harassment or threats leading up to the report, their appeals often go unread, and bans/strikes on their account that are unfounded never get removed, all this is simply encouragement for members of hate groups or individuals targeting people based on race/gender, to continue doing what they are doing, their attacks are successful and as such, they won't stop. It's a loophole that these individuals and members of extremist or hate groups, are exploiting rapidly.

   Streamers who have been repeatedly targeted and victims of spam reporting do not get their wrongfully issued bans reset or removed, and their appeals often go unanswered or denied--leaving them with several strikes against their account for violations they did not commit. After 2 or 3 attacks, hate raids or false reports, these streamers are permabanned, simply for being a POC, female, or member of the LGBTQ+ community on Twitch at a time where it's far too easy for hate groups to target streamers, harass them, threaten them and then get them banned unfairly.

   Adding an option that would allow streamers to show proof in their appeal that they were targeted, that the person(s) responsible for reporting them have been repeatedly threatening/harassing/targeting them and/or abusing the report user feature to file false reports against them and others, would be a huge step forward in showcasing that you truly support and value your streamers, ALL of them, not just the big ones or those who are buddy buddy with staff. . .

   It's also imperative that streamers who are banned not be immediately locked out of their account/DM's (as this is essentially preventing them from collecting, downloading or screenshotting evidence of harassment, sexual harassment, or threats of violence) there must be a way to prevent reported streamers from streaming if banned, while also allowing them access to important documents which can substantiate their claims and reports, such as DM's, Chat Logs, Clips or Stills that support not only their appeal but any reports they wish to file with local law enforcement if they feel unsafe--which often times, they do.

   Taking that right away, preventing a targeted, harassed, or threatened streamer from immediately obtaining Dm's, Chat Logs, VOD's or other documents on your site, which may help with properly reporting or identifying those harassing or threatening acts of violence against them and/or others, is unconscionable.

   Nothing should impede a streamers ability to obtain evidence of threats or harassment and file a report with local law enforcement, especially not a false report made by a hate group or member of, that was made merely to target, deplatform or demonetize a streamer due to their gender, race, or sexual orientation.

   It's important when filing a report with law enforcement to have as much information as possible, but the ability to do that is taken away from the victim/targeted streamer when they are immediately locked out of their account, without any proof. You are essentially punishing streamers and rewarding users that filing false reports with the system you have in place now, they know this, and as such, continue to utilize this practice. They are aware of the fact that once the streamer is banned, they can do nothing to report them, stop them, obtain information needed to file a report with LEO's, nothing, so they make threatening/hateful comments until the moment they get the streamer banned, and face zero repercussions.

   Fostering an environment where hate groups and their supporters are allowed to thrive, file false reports repeatedly without consequence, and succeed in getting streamers banned due to their race, gender, religion, etc. is against the very values Twitch claims to hold dear. As it stands, your actions and policies, or lack-thereof, do not support your values.

   There must be a better review process in place for bans and appeals, because at this time, hate groups are taking advantage of this loophole/issue to ensure that women, POC, and those in the LGBTQ+ community are silenced and no longer able to stream--if we don't take action now, this will only continue to fester and grow, getting worse as time goes on.

   It's not just about fostering a community of inclusiveness, but revenue is impacted as well, while these small-ish streamers being targeted may not seem like a big deal because they don't garner the impressive numbers big streamers do, they do add up, just one streamer that is wrongfully permabanned due to targeted attacks that has say 50k followers, generating an average 4k in revenue a month (not including ads), is a consistent 2k that you are wiping out, when you account for how many are banned due to targeted attacks, and an inability to state their case and challenge their appeals properly, you're talking tens if not hundreds of thousands a month in revenue slipping through your hands--you are hemorrhaging money by allowing a system which permabans streamers that garner steady views and generate consistent revenue on your site. Doing nothing to stop hate groups and their members who work to get those bringing income to your site removed--is and will continue to be, a hinderance in your earnings. Why continue to cater to those that aren't bringing money to the site by implementing a system which rewards them for targeting streamers and filing false reports? An improved ban/appeals system to combat this issue would improve revenue and the community as a whole.

3. Do not allow malicious use of safety features to target creators

   Some creators are targeted for copyright take downs and disingenuous hate speech reports because they are standing up to abusive communities or hateful ideologies. Twitch should consider how its safety and copyright features can be used maliciously and do more to protect creators who are impacted disproportionately simply because racist or sexist groups don’t like them.

4. Gaslighting, Logging, Context, Complaints.

   When someone is banned from Twitch, there needs to be a specific Twitch staff ID internally to help identify who issued the ban. If there is already a system in place, then when there are elevated concerns about the lack of absolute context, time, or statements made, the user SHOULD KNOW what it is.

   Just a few days ago, I found out what “Hawk Touh” means, and it’s just one of the thousands of random memes like “bing ****” or “pushing p” that appear and fade out of context. I find these memes irritating and nonsensical. Thanks to hindsight, I understood why I was banned again (after a month prior having been banned for absolutely no reason). These memes, often used without context, can be easily misunderstood, leading to unjust bans.

   The first time, it was for “Hateful Conduct.” Despite phone calls, emails, and attempted audits from third-party overseers, there was no update. The second time, due to the absurd nature of the ban on Twitch staff’s end, it was for “Unwarranted Sexual Advancements.” This time, I had logs. I sent them to the proper third-party auditors and included the Twitch staff CC in a more detailed follow-up email with far more context to the misguided ban. They responded on day 9 (the ban was only 7 days), stating they made a mistake and unbanned me, even though I was unbanned two days prior.

   Accountability: Twitch staff need to be investigated when there is such a heinous claim. This should not HAVE to happen through third-party means, given the context of an “unwarranted sexual advance.” Discussing assets with a developer to the point where StreamElements guided me in the proper direction to acquire the assets in that channel should not result in a ban. I gave them the case number of the Hateful Conduct ban a month prior in their feedback form. I see nothing come of it, just more stories of past issues that have no relevance today.

   This is an example of how terrible the system is. The lack of information in that Tweet by the disgruntled Twitch employee likely reflects the inadequacy of their internal system. This ambiguity in communication can cause unnecessary defense of inappropriate actions based on misunderstood contexts. The ambiguity IS THE ISSUE. The lack of evidence on Twitch staff’s end in my case is likely not reflective of the incident 4 years ago involving different staff. Today, it is NOT the case. There are no guidelines to hold accountability on Twitch for both the user and the staff.

   The takeaway is, without third-party programs that allowed me to log MY OWN chat records, we can’t contextualize our own memes that are unknown to everyone. Since these bans were “repealed,” I have no idea if that means the “Hateful Conduct” or the proven out-of-context “Sexual Advancement.” Knowing that, I had the mods send me my logs when I was unbanned in May, the last thing I said was “DDT was banned in the 1980s, I thought?” So I provided an epa.gov link to the staff and still have heard nothing.

   1.  Set up a system to find out how many strikes someone has for bans. I am assuming all of the bans were overturned but have ZERO way of knowing, as I only know they said “after looking into it” when I never stated anything about appealing the “Sexual Advancement” ban, since I found it imperative to understand the misuse of banning as I provided the evidence of what declared that ban and only provided the case number for the Hateful Conduct ban.
   2.  Compensation when back-to-back bans were PROVEN to be a mistake.
   3.  Third-party auditing that cannot be money-trailed (digital era is digital) to Twitch, involving no conflict of interest in the current matter on a case-by-case basis.
   4.  The loss of privileges to any Twitch staff who has wrongfully banned someone for twice the duration of the ban inflicted on the individuals.
   5.  Refocus the financials on other companies like Valve or just strictly leave Twitch to be linked as an option. The other opportunities for Prime Gaming are massive since 2014. Using Prime for other ventures has been profitable for Amazon, as stated. Twitch needs to refocus employee payments towards staff identified by the methods above and use their salaries to identify botnets, which are damaging ad revenue. Alternatively, develop an application that allows users to know what they said so it’s not “your word against something they can’t find since the account is nuked.”
   

   The level on which Twitch operates now is embarrassing. The fact that you can have current Twitch staff hand out similarly worded ban reasons, “and making a mistake” ONLY when I could provide evidence, is something Amazon among other affiliates and partners KNOW has been the terrible standard for a minute.

   Please ban people when they broke the terms of service why do you ban people who didnt ? and you can not even give them the proof that they did something wrong .    When will you stop banning for nonsense? enough already. They should improve the rules because nowadays everyone who watches twitch will have seen someone naked, either in person or on internet pages, and that you can get PERMANENTLY banned for teaching nudes WITHOUT WANTING AND BECAUSE OF OTHER PEOPLE, The streamer has to pay for it, it is very unpleasant that they ban for such nonsense and then they leave people who do more things and not even ban them.    Lets start with I am a streamer who was banned not once but twitch one due to a wardrobe malfunction and the second because I mention another streaming platform I use. I followed the steps like everyone else and mention to them it was a malfunction but since it was consider sexual in nature they auto delete the vods and erase all evidence that can be used to appeal. This is suspension within itself but they hold the record regardless.

   My idea Keep the VOD so we can review our self's and determine if we at fault for what was an issue

   Make an 18+ area or a restricted area. Twitch we know you are greedy so make an 18+ area where streamers can create and be more explicit with their content they make.

   Stop being bias to partners of twitch cause if a streamer can display their naked Vtuber model on stream have fansly in their title and not get banned or suspended that shows bias and isn't fair to those smaller creators just copying or following the lead of a partner.

8. bans should only be channel specific and explained better

   i would like to see a better way of explaining bans to the banned person because we don't know why we get banned. a appeal should be viewed by a real person and not a auto reply ( i know this happens because my appeal was "rejected" as soon as i hit enter) you also need to have someone actually view the chat vod when you are handing out a indefinte suspension so you can see if it's from mass reporting because someone doesn't like someone. also if someone could send in proof that they were wrongfully suspended then you should also help them recoup monies they have lost because you were not doing your diligence by looking into the ban you imposed blindly. I also think that bans should be imposed by the streamer and not twitch. streamers are a business and they should be allowed to impose their own rules for their chat and bans should only be by channel and not twitch wide we pay you rent much like a landlord so we should be treated like a business renting a location. we handle all our own rules and communities.

10. Any opportunity to reappeal after indefinite suspension?

    My account was indefinitely suspened and it was apparently due to my user name (which has been the same for the 4 year existence of my account). I would happily change the Username to keep my account, but my appeal was immediately rejected.

    Will there me another opportunity to appeal or is my account gone forever?

    My feedback here would be, I would love to see the opportunity to have a bit of dialogue when an account has no prior suspensions/bans both via twitch or any of the channels they follow. Slap on the wrist and change it would totally suffice IMO, now I'm just locked out of my account where I've got 30+ months subbed to accounts.

11. Sorting indefinite suspension appeals

    When a channel that has never broken TOS before suddenly gains a mass amount of viewers, streams in catagory never used before on the channel and spams malware links this really should be a red flag for bumping indefinite suspension appeals up the list for that user, between the amount of people being hacked vs the amount of people getting themselves suspended, the wait times are still sorely lacking for those facing issues not of their own cause, the appeals system simply does not have any support, many stream to support themselves financially but also for their mental health and in situations not caused by them such as unauthorised use of their account, the wait time is just far too long currently and genuinely negatively impacts the health of the streamer.

12. Prevent duplicate suspensions for the same violation, for the same facts

    I was recently indefinitely suspended for having an inappropriate username. The thing is, this is the 3rd time I've been indefinitely suspended for the same username, and twitch has twice reinstated the account (in both cases calling the original suspension a "mistake"). And now it's happened a 3rd time. This seems like something that should not occur. That is, if:

    • The user has been suspended for some set of facts, such as a given username, and a policy these facts violate
    • Twitch staff reviews the suspension (possibly due to a user appeal)
    • Twitch staff determines that the facts do not constitute a policy violation (e.g. the username is not actually inappropriate)

    Then the system should record that those facts do not constitute a policy violation, and a second report of those facts for that policy violation should be rejected by the safety system. In this case, the policy is "inappropriate usernames" and the facts are the username itself. Both reports would contain machine-readable records of the facts and the policy. When the original report was reviewed and overturned by Twitch Staff, the pair consisting of (facts, policy) would be marked as not-a-violation, and the second report could be automatically rejected. The same facts cannot both be and not be a violation of a policy*, so it's unnecessary to investigate twice. This should reduce workload on review staff as well as reducing frustration on users.

    Note: Not on this username. Unfortunately, one logs into Uservoice via OAuth to Twitch, and Twitch for some reason prevents indefinitely-suspended accounts from logging in at all (as opposed to merely restricting any interactions with the service), which means that it is not possible to log into Uservoice via my actual account since you can't OAuth if you can't log in. Oops. Well, fortunately I have this random joke account kicking around. This is annoying and convoluted, but at least it's easy to work around.

    In any case, so long as I'm complaining, I may as well finish: The account in question is called CannibalLollocaust. The cognoscenti will recognize this as a reference to the horror film "Cannibal Holocaust." However, I do at least understand how someone less-sophisticated might mistakenly think this ran afoul of the policy on "mocking, denying, or glorifying the occurrence of well-documented hate crimes or acts of genocide" if they didn't actually think very hard or attempt to check their work. I mean, even LLMs can figure this out these days, so maybe it's not so excusable, but whatever. Also, the term "Holocaust" does not even primarily refer to any historical event (really; check your dictionary!), but I get that not everyone has as good an English vocabulary as me, so it's understandable. The bottom line is: I'm not annoyed that this happened once, I'm annoyed that it happened multiple times.

    The first time this happened (over 7 years ago), I was quite new to Twitch. I basically asked Support: "Is this going to be a thing with you guys? Because if this is how you are about usernames, I can go somewhere else. I don't mind if you and I don't agree about what's appropriate, that's fine, we'll agree to disagree." Support responded by reinstating my account and calling the original suspension a mistake. I took this to be Twitch saying that it was not going to be a thing, more fool me.

    The second time it happened, I had changed the username from "canniballollocaust" to "CannibalLollocaust", capitalizing both subwords so that the name was now in CamelCase. I did this because I had observed many streamers having difficulty reading the name out ("Cannibal Locust" was common), so in an effort to make myself more user-friendly, I changed the capitalization. Shortly after that, I received a suspension for an inappropriate username.

    I decided this wasn't Twitch's fault, or at least not forseeably their fault; I reasoned that the original suspension and reinstatement had left my username whitelisted. However, when I changed my name, even though I only changed the capitalization for readability, this meant the name was no longer whitelisted, since the content whitelisted was just a string and the strings no longer matched. So it would be necessary to appeal this suspension to an actual person.

    Unfortunately, when I appealed the 2nd case and explained that this was the same thing that you said "yes" to before, I just changed the capitalization, the appeal was rejected. In retrospect, I don't actually know whether an actual person rejected it. In any case, I was eventually able to get the account unsuspended by reaching out via other channels. Once again, Twitch identified the suspension as a mistake. I presumed at the time that the same name would not then be suspended again.

    However, the name was in fact suspended again. Since I didn't make any trivial changes to the name between the 2nd and 3rd suspension, my original thought about how suspension whitelisting must have worked is likely wrong, and the fact that this didn't happen more frequently was just sheer luck. I suppose it's also possible that unrelated backend changes to Twitch caused a pre-existing whitelist system to no longer work, but at this point further haruspicy into the operation of Twitch's systems without access to the source code is probably a waste of time.

    Now, I'm not making all these complaints in order to appeal a suspension by other means. I got the account unsuspended the first time it suspended and appeal-denied via other channels, and I presume I'll be able to do so again. It'll probably just be a long and tedious process and make me think that maybe Twitch just isn't worth my time after all. In the business, we call this "Poor User Experience."

    On the other hand, if somebody from Twitch reads this and decides to take the initiative to unsuspend the account with no further action on my part, I won't complain or anything.

    *Obviously policies can be updated, and it might be necessary to add revision IDs to policies, as a set of facts might not violate an earlier policy but violate a later one. But since Twitch isn't actually paying me to engineer their systems, I'm not going to evaluate the possible options for addressing this consideration.

13. Too much Dad Jokes

    This account person named yellowmuster is making daily dad jokes as a greeting and it is getting annoying from the dad joke that one time it was good but it way too much sensitive from other people from the jokes. I am getting bullied from the dad jokes. Could someone help to find this person go away and try the act normal way instead greeting with a dad jokes?

    kindly crosscheck with the account holder before u suspend any of their account i didnt open one of my twitch acc probably from months i get to know its suspended for what if someone has done some suspicious activity so its not us kindly verify with the user pleaseee

15. if you unban one account for "a mistake on our part," don't unban another account for "correct enforcement."

    how are you gonna ban both of my accounts at the same time for the same reason, but unban both and say one was a mistake on your part but the other was correct enforcement? make it make sense.

    i have two accounts. you banned both of my accounts for no reason. one received 7 days and another received indefinite suspension. my ban was thankfully quickly reversed for "a mistake on our part," meaning i did NOTHING WRONG. meanwhile, i just received an email saying my appeal is accepted, but a member of your team "can confirm that the correct enforcement was issued."

    THAT IS SO UNFAIR. i hadn't even streamed on that account, AND the indefinite suspension happened on January 1, 2001 according to you. clearly, it's a mistake, NOT a "correct enforcement."

    Sooo I have a strike on my account that I never even streamed on? So I'll just continue to get indefinite suspensions down the road for doing nothing wrong?

16. indefinite account appeal. IM NOT A BOT

    my main account crowdog69b69t has an indefinite suspension for no reason. it says that i was flagged for being a bot or automated account. its been several days and still no real response from my appeal and by the looks of it, it doesnt seem like any real help will ever come. i had a lot of stuff on my account and now its all gone and the days are just piling over itself. i thought twitch was a trustworthy platform but now im afraid to spend my money here since everything can be taken away from me so abrubtly. the lack of real moderation has resulted in my account's indefinite suspension and is enabling trolls to mass report people to shut them down. i filed an appeal but it seems like im going to look forward to making an account reinstatement in the next 5 or 6 months if that even works.
