Permanent bans from streams
First off I have to say that I am not very proficient in Social Media. I initially came here because a video game I play sent me here. There are some other things I do enjoy now so I spend more time. That said I am posting here because it seems germaine to the topic of moderator tools. I hope it's appropriate in any event. And while I would prefer my suggestion be discussed with a management or supervisory personal. You guys are fairly hard to reach out to so here it is. I hope there is some value or benefit that might be gained.
Regarding the suggestion of a permanent ban from a channel that will forever preclude someone visiting that channel or chatting with the streamer. I can certainly understand that there is, and probably will always continue to be, justifiable reason to resort to that extreme And maybe even to enforce the sanction without peer or supervisory review. Possibly without even being afforded the chance for rebuttal or to offer the "other side" of something that is always with two sides. It reminds of a situation where statements were taken out of context and used to fit a narrative to achieve an outcome the investigator wanted to get. The person was left with no recourse. None. This person met the accuser, the judge and the executioner all in one swift motion without the chance to write or say one word in their defense. And it was later shown that there was "personality conflict" that definitely influenced that situation. It was truly unjust and the individual was hurt. And we, the imperfect, fallible, subjective and opinionated creatures we are we all have the potential to make "mistakes." Even further we can include other behavioral ideas like jealousy, envy and conflict of interest or personality as a cause and effect. All having the potential to offer a swift but unfair judgment. Something that should never happen. But it does. Everyday. I worked in a correctional setting as a Psychiatric Care Tech for a long long time. I have experienced a lot. Many times things done or said by a coworker that shouldn't have been. I am sure there were times my personal dislike, for whatever reason, influenced my judgement and hence, the way I wrote a conduct report. I guess the point being that, again while certainly finding value in permanent bans, they should not be issued without some kind of peer review. And even better a supervisory review and some of the supervisors time given to the accused to offer rebuttal unless overwhelming facts preside over the situation. I am sure most of the mods here are good people with good hearts. Wanting to be the most competent and just people they can be. But the sad fact of it not likely being 100 percent of all the mods is just that.. Going to end this with an example of my own. One that happened quite some time ago and not the nightmarish more recent one I have yet to resolve. But I am persistent. I was at a stream, really new to twitch. I didn't have a clue of how things worked. Anyway, I said something in chat and I made the mistake of make it a whole paragraph or a little more. Might have been some lyric to a song. After it posted I saw the post has been deleted. I just couldn't see why. I got a bit irritated and started letting my thoughts run off the keyboard. I can imagine it went something like Why? Who? Maybe a couple cuss words. Who knows. I guess between me getting feisty in the chat ( I had put all that work into typing when typing is not a strong suit ) Although I am certain it was neither severe nor derogatory.. But between me typing the mod was kind enough to try to explain in chat that if somebody writes a novella in chat it gets the automod bat. But I guess the damage had been done. I suppose somewhere in there I said something personal. Even if not insulting it was still wrong to some degree. I wish I had seen what the mod wrote. But.. Oh well I did offer the one chance to explain myself and apologize. I guess it didn't work (: Be going on a year now. And that's ok. I learned a valuable lesson.
That's a wrap. Although I would ask for a brief opportunity to talk to a supervisory mod if that is possible. Sorry for going on.. and on... and on..
All good things always.....
