Lack of address regarding sexault assault findings by user "CrazySlick" and recommended safety measures
To whomsoever may concern,
I humbly bring forward to your attention to recent series of information revealed by several sources and by several streamers between two platforms (Youtube and Twitch) concerning AdrianahLee.
As many might be aware and to summarize, this took place outside of Twitchcon 2018 in a private party hosted by Mizkif and/or OTK. This also included IRL friends from AdrianahLee and Mizkif's friend nicknamed "CrazySlick" who sexually assaulted AdrianahLee while she was asleep during the party. It is then realized that Mizkif wanted to downplay the sexual assault story which would "cancel" his "best friend" and therefore had Maya Higa, another Twitch partner from OTK with a few individuals physically go to her home. Please keep in mind that Maya has a certain influential image she developed over the years and also is a part of 'Twitch Women Alliance Twitch group which consists of other influential partners. A combination of this and also the fear that a streamer may not be able to network and grow via collaboration after years of hard work and personal investment is nothing short of intimidation in an attempt to downplay sexual assault and the narration of the story. Sexual Assault is a crime in itself and attempting to downplay the story by going to a victim's house invited is a serious red flag and considered a crime in itself in certain nations. The rest of the details are already out there and I am hopeful that Twitch's involvement will something to address the issue.
Regardless of the developments and conflicting information coming outside, it is regrettable to see no lack of clarity or action taken by Twitch. This platform prides itself on having a rule where serious action outside of Twitch influences the decision against the user. But in the case of Maya Higa and Mizkif, nothing has been done. While OTK claims they are doing an investigation done by "independent entities" that was not known to the public, having an investigation done by the group involving three guilty parties (three because while crazy slick was not a streamer, he was very involved in OTK's activities and stayed in the streamer house with other streamers) will always be a conflict of interest and attempts to brush it under the rug to protect the involved party's interests.
Therefore, I request Twitch to intervene in this matter very seriously. Even if a crime is not reported to the police authorities, it is still a crime. While we are not law enforcement, it is Twitch that should be the one doing the investigation for several reasons. Some of which are as follows:
This happened at Twitchcon 2018. While this is a party hosted by Mizkif. Maya and maybe the whole of OTK, this was done during its multi-day event. Its obvious impressionable and small streamers will attend parties hosted by partners, a status that Twitch assigns to streamers crossing a certain threshold and therefore representing Twitch whenever they used the words "Twitch Party". This will also put a message that nobody is protected from doing such heinous acts and suspending until a real independent investigation/ inquiry, the management can decide on its act.
Twitch neither has suspended Maya nor Mizkif's partnership. Maya is also a part of 'Twitch Women's Alliance' which personally is in poor taste due to the downplay attempts. Twitchcon 2022 is going to happen in NA soon. Therefore the urgency to establish some guidelines is of extreme importance.
Anything between bad to horror stories from these "Twitchcon parties" outside of Twitch is not unique. It is, unfortunately, happening regularly where many victims do not come forward unless they build that support and confidence (such is my understanding with this case involving AdrianahLee). While Twitch does not have control in such situations, it can issue strong guidelines, safety tips and rules suggesting serious implications for involved parties. It also needs to have its own framework for investigating such reports coming out in time. If there is an option to involve police or judicial authorities, it should explore.
Alas as a community, though vibrant and resourceful in its own way, ultimately it is Twitch that has to make some effort to act against it and put a message specifically in cases like these. On behalf of not just streamers, but every friend, family and relative whose lives might be affected, I humbly plead Twitch to do something effective and quickly. But for now, please do the needful and suspend the involved guilty parties, especially now that in their own ways have admitted to what their friend did to her and potentially others. It is an open secret that CrazySlick was a creep. But we'll never know how many victims are involved. Twitch's intervention and investigation might even give confidence to silent victims to come out and tell their stories to you in confidence and hope that the actual independent investigation will have appropriate actions.
The decisions Twitch takes in this matter not only would help streamers in NA but streamers in every continent's walks of life, genders, nationalities, ethnicities and other social factors.
