normalize Ad volume with content volume
Not as frequently as before but still often, Ads play which are dramatically louder than the broadcast content. This is an annoyance, interferes with other people in the house, and frankly makes me more likely to mute the ad and go do something in a different tab.
Normalizing volume levels with stream average volume or peak volume wouldn't take a huge amount of processing power and would fix the problem entirely. It's required by the US's FCC in other broadcast mediums, but it's really just a quality of life improvement for the viewers and a mark of good production.

A majority of ads on web and TV apps should now have normalized sound. We are still continuing the work on this and will update the status again when it is fully complete!

I JUST noticed that when ads come on it defaults the volume to 100% regardless. Thats disgusting. If i want a steam at 1% volume then i want the full thing at 1%, i dont want to be forced to hear ads when im lurking.
Gross.

Almost every AD is STILL significantly louder than the stream volume and every time one plays I get blasted and have to manually turn it down. PLEASE GET CONTROL OF YOUR AD VOLUME. As if shoving them in my face isn't enough at least stop them from being 200% louder than the stream I was watching!

Every time an ad starts the audio jumps up in volume to the point where my ears hurt. Every time an ad rolls over to another ad the volume jumps.
Moving the volume slider up or down a little causes the ad to go to the volume of the regular stream, only to rise again once another ad plays.
This is not fixed.

On my TV ads yell as ****.

This is still happening (Disney+ Adds for example) which are killing my ears each time they start.
The blast is so loud compared to the normal streams volume I was watching that I have headaches from them.
Please turn the volumes of the adds DOWN. this is a health hazard at this point. Thanks... -

I'll just contact my senator and complain and ask they start having the fcc regulate it. Might be the only way to get this fixed since twitch doesn't think it's a priority and probably never will. I recommend anyone that comes here do the same.

Anyone else down to boycott twitch for a day or something? I don't think comments and complaints are working. And when companies don't listen to our voice, there's usually only one place where we can get them to listen. That's by hitting them in their wallets. I've been on this thread for years and there's been almost no improvement. Maybe we can find a way to still support the creators that we want to support and watch, but without doing it on twitch for a day. Would anyone else support this idea?

This issue is getting out of hand. I'm being completely ear blasted when a commercial starts.

I've been a part of this thread for almost a decade, and the issue is still not fixed. If twitch extensions can add a compressor to normalize volume, why can't the million-dollar company lol

8 years after, the issues is even more relevant than when it started. I watch some streams at 10%, when the ads plays, it doesn't matter at what % the volume slider is, the volume will jump so ******* high to be deafening. If you try to move the slider 1%, the volume of the ads will now correctly represent what the % set on the slider. So you think fixing the slider will just fix the issue right? NOTHING MORE WRONG. The average stream being played at a 50% volume WILL ALWAYS BE WAY LESS LOUD than an ads at 50%. This technique has been used with ads on television until countries' agencies decided to regulate it with laws and force the ads average volume to be the same of the program the accompany. ARE YOU ******* WAITING FOR A LAW TO COMPLY WITH NORMAL STANDARD REGULATIONS?
Your update dated 29/07/2023 IS ******* PATHETIC! I'M LITERALLY JUMPING FROM MY ******* CHAIR EVERY TIME AN ADS FROM "THE FINALS" IS PLAYING BECAUSE I'M LISTENING TO A STREAM WHERE PEOPLE ARE JUST CALMLY TALKING. IF THE VOLUME I'M LISTENING IS AT 100%, FOR THE ADS TO HAVE THE SAME VOLUME I HAVE TO BRING DOWN THE SLIDER TO ******* 2%. YOU ARE ******* PATHETIC!
YOU WANT PEOPLE TO STOP USING AD-BLOCKERS? NORMALIZE ADS VOLUMES
I've commented this post multiple years but this is the last chance I'm giving you. After that I will not hold myself from using any free method to avoid ads, hence I DO NOT CONSIDER TWITCH TURBO A SOLUTION FOR THIS ******** -

Using headphones when listening & watching twitch streams has become increasingly unbearable due to the volume of the ads. I don't mind my favourite streamers running 3 mins of ads in various intervals they set, but when I have the stream in the background, headphones on, volume at 50%, and the ads come on at full volume, it feels like my eardrums are being blown! It's so jarring, and I feel has the opposite effect an advertiser would like: immediately creating a negative reaction to their product/service/thing being advertised.

Please tune the volume for THE FINALS ad, it's umberable

this and the sheer amount of intrusive (and as said EXTREMELY LOUD) ads is literally THE reason why i started using adblockers on every site.

I can't stress enough how I have to mute Twitch when I'm doing something while watching Twitch in my other monitor or I leave Twitch on while I'm sleeping because the ads are so drastically louder than the stream I'm watching. It's extremely distracting and I've begun to just not have Twitch open and watch something on Youtube because at least Youtube's ads don't stray away from the volume in the website's OWN PLAYER.
Like, if I turn down the volume on a stream because the streamer's audio is higher than normal audio should be (which is good, because it gives viewers more options with their audio balancing experience as opposed to the stream's audio being too low), that I get blasted into next year because some ad is SCREAMING about some product in a style they *think* applies to gamers but is actually not how people who play video games act or think.
Turn the ad volume down, for the love of god. I'm more than happy to view an ad since it gives a minute amount of money to the streamer and potentially keeps the lights on at Twitch, but not if I have to close the application so I don't get a headache.

The Ad volume has improved a little bit. But i still get a heart attack if Ad's are starting. The sound is totally overdriven.

"Bladvertising" as the term is.
Having advertisement volume at max gain so no matter what the broadcast of the AD will 99% of the time be louder than the content watching.
Recently this has become so bad with the recent "Doritos" AD as well as the "Samsung 990 PRO" ADs.
I have found myself leaving Twitch completely as soon as they started playing. An entire community shouldn't need to be banding together for what should be a basic industry standard.
I have found myself watching less Twitch in general due to this to the point if a stream has pre-rolls of this sort, instantly leave.
Then a stream that runs ADs to prevent pre-rolls starts playing ADs, instantly leave.
It is detrimental to the user experience and negative for every shareholder involved.
Twitch, Streamers, Viewers and Advertisers.*The lack of updates or any actual change is concerning

Totally agree. Shouldn't be difficult to implement. Ad volume must be 5000dB loader than stream at the moment.
As at 28/11/2023 the volume isn't normalised.

I use twitch daily and this problem keeps happening on and off where ad volume will be way louder than the volume level I have set. I use twitch on my side monitor and tune in and out while I'm doing other things including talking to people, when these ads happen it will blast so loud it drowns out everything else and as soon as I change the volume slider 1% in and direction the audio adjusts to where it should have been. For me it doesn't happen every time and there is no ad specific either as it seems to happen randomly.
