normalize Ad volume with content volume
Not as frequently as before but still often, Ads play which are dramatically louder than the broadcast content. This is an annoyance, interferes with other people in the house, and frankly makes me more likely to mute the ad and go do something in a different tab.
Normalizing volume levels with stream average volume or peak volume wouldn't take a huge amount of processing power and would fix the problem entirely. It's required by the US's FCC in other broadcast mediums, but it's really just a quality of life improvement for the viewers and a mark of good production.

A majority of ads on web and TV apps should now have normalized sound. We are still continuing the work on this and will update the status again when it is fully complete!

To be clear to advertisers who run ads on Twitch....the lack of normalizing this volume makes me immediately associate your brand with me being annoyed and feeling that your brand is not considerate.

Especially when listening to quieter content like ASMR, the ads are painfully loud and incredibly jarring every single time.

Regarding the update, I have found very few ads are even remotely scaled to the stream’s volume. This is an issue for me on the app on several devices, as well as the web version on desktop, so I know it’s not a me problem. Nothing seems to have actually been fixed.

I have noticed the ads adjusting to a normalized volume to match the stream, however they still start at a full blaring volume that is a jumpscare every time. Either starting with a buffer for the commercials to get to appropriate volume or starting the advertisement at a very low volume so it fades up would be a better experience. as it is now, I often jump and hit the mute button, but if they didn't start so loud, it would be fine. I have also fallen asleep to streams and been woken up by very loud ad break starts and that is very jarring.

It is a real shame when very large corporate advertisements are broadcast at obnoxiously high volume. For example, goo......
Regardless, this is a problem that has yet to be fixed as of today. -

All you need to do is to set the option to start ads WITHOUT sound. I will be deaf because of you. This is very disrespectful behavior and it makes me hate the advertiser!

I am having the same issue as Wishlist28 commented on April 18, 2023 11:51. I have a channel set at 1% so I can watch on one screen while attending to business on another, but when a commercial comes on it jumps to 100% even though the indicator is at 1%. I have to click on the ad to turn the volume down, but when the next ad rolls it is back to 100%. This is completely unnecessary and volume levels should not be changing (especially this dramatically) without my consent or action. It certainly shouldn't happen just on ads, as the streamer volume stays consistent, this is only happening on multi-ad rolls.

I mean, at what point should we just write directly to the advertisers to tell them how bad their adds are served on Twitch. Maybe letting them know that we simply mute the adds as soon as they come on would put more pressure on Twitch then a lost and forgotten ticket.

Streams are so much quieter than the actual ads. The ads play without any warning and often startle me, forcing me to rip my headphones. Currently, I'm not really watching any streamers that I'm not subbed to, it's just too damaging to my ears.
Can we get some resolution on this issue? If I get started by ads, I usually just exit Twitch and go elsewhere (Youtube, Kik, etc.), those sites seem to have figured out how to play ads at normal volume.

Can Twitch staff please acknowledge if this issue has been fixed? The ads (especially on mobile) are so incredibly loud compared to the stream, it's actually damaging to the ears. It's so frustrating that I usually just exit the stream and go watch streams on Youtube or Kik.

I have all the streams i watch at a minimum volume level, controlling audio from my OS settings. When your ADS is played with full volume i gets painful to listen and almost gives me an heart-attack.. PLEASE fix this issue, as i have no need to further damage my already impaired hearing. Save the elderly from heart-attacks!!

Please put an audio limiter to ads or other safeguards to protect user's hearing, they can be really loud compared to broadcasts
