Keep Moments
Moments is a feature that Twitch released as a Beta to a handful of creators. Whenever something cool happened in your stream, you could give out a "Moment" to those who were there to witness it. Twitch just announced they are discontinuing it as of October. I'm writing this to ask you to reconsider.
The Moment was a clip that was created when you gave the command, and allowed for some minor editing. Anyone who claimed the moment would also receive a badge, and the more moments you claimed, the more your badge evolved over time. You could even click on someone's badge to see what moments they were there for.
As a creator, I was part of the Beta for Moments. This was an INCREDIBLE tool for engaging my audience. Most of the time, the Moments were for small little silly things that happened, but it allowed for my audience members who maybe couldn't afford to sub or cheer to showcase their loyalty to the stream by having a badge that said "I'm here for all the moments." The irony of the strength of this feature was that it wasn't really for "The Moment" you were there, but for combination of all the small little moments you got to share.
Growing on Twitch is about engaging your audience and giving them reasons to come back. Moments allowed viewers who tuned in for the day the chance at "being there" for something cool. It created an opportunity for people to stick around more and watch more of my content.
Anytime something cool happened my audience would say "MOMENT?," and so much so that I made an emote for the very thing. The emote ranked #1 in both my channel and outside my channel since it's creation for me.
It's failure as a feature is rooted in
- The Beta was too limited. Not enough people who could benefit from it were given the chance to use it.
- There was not a lot of push from Twitch to help creators understand why the feature is so good.
- The feature needed more feedback to shape it into something truly special.
Imagine having the badge and also attaching an Emote slot to Certain Tiers. Imagine having more options to really edit the clips so that you could really encompass the Moment. Imagine having MORE MOMENTS to give out so you could be more free with giving them out.
The reason it was cut was "limited use by the community" and that they would strive to "Create features that bring value to streamers"
Moments IS that feature. The badge is such a cool function. You don't need to make it compete with Featured Clips, in fact just having them on the viewer's profile under the badge is enough.
Please reconsider axing this and please actually reach out for feedback to those of us who get access to these Beta Features.

I haven't seen a staff member in chats that I moderate without a moments badge. To claim that it isn't used sounds like a cop out. There are plenty of streamers who didn't have moments and yet many times tried to type /moment and that metric should tell y'all everything you need to know about how much it would've been used
The people driving the removal are probably just salty that others have higher tier badges than them, but it should be twitch's goal to drive constant viewership and not cater to people who can't watch.

As a smaller streamer, I was lucky to be included in the moments beta, and my community loved it! As the petition states, many times in chat when something wild would happen, chat would be calling for a moment badge. I play a variety of games and this was always much more used during games that included a lot of the unexpected; geoguessr was a very common one.
I was very saddened to see twitch cutting this feature without having a time for those of us who used the feature to give feedback. Yes, I didn't always remember it was there to use it. But that's more because twitch did not roll it out wider to streams my viewers and I watch and did not integrate it better into the platform. The suggestions above given by iateyourpie are just a few of the many amazing ways this small, well implemented feature could be improved to become one of the most-loved twitch features. We're begging you to let it have a real chance to shine, as this is one of the best ways you've allowed us to really engage our audience instead of trying to milk them for cheap profit

It is also to be noted that a lot of people who had moments enabled didnt even know about it. Twitch should make sure to consider those details so it doesnt skew the statistics they use to justify taking down beloved features.

Moments is a feature that Twitch released as a Beta to an extremely small handful of creators. Whenever something awesome happened in your stream, you could give out a "Moment" to those who were there to witness it. Twitch just announced they are stopping it at the beginning of October. I'm writing this to ask you to reconsider.
I am a new streamer (Just received affiliate about a month ago) I was really looking forward to being able to use the moments feature and now it's being removed? All because of the belief it's not being used enough by streamers? Out of the channels I follow, only a couple of them have access to the beta of moments. With such a small, limited base, how can accurate numbers be determined? I for one love it when I'm in one of the rooms that have access to them and receive a moment. I always have it showing next to my name in the chat.
Twitch should reach out for more feedback to shape it into something really great. Maybe even being able to attach it to an Emote slot.
Please reconsider removing the moments and actually reach out for feedback to the community in order to find out what the majority want. I know it's impossible to please everybody, but stopping the moments is a poor move.

I agree Moments should remain. As a new streamer I was really looking forward to them being completely rolled out so I could make use of them as well. The usage numbers shouldn't be based on such a small group. Roll it out for everyone and see just how much they would be used!

I absolutely believe Moments should remain. I haven't had the opportunity to use it as a creator but as a viewer it has incentivised me to be actively watching streams to make sure I don't miss the moment a streamer achieves something they're working towards (eg beating a difficult or long game/level)
It significantly adds to the excitement and hype of a stream! -

Discovering Moments has been one of the best features with Twitch and feels like a great accomplishment and rewards a viewer for watching a streamer when many streams can feel very repetitive. The FOMO effect is one that is worth saving and having as a feature for the most dedicated of viewers and a great badge as well!

i enjoy moments, would be a shame to get rid of them.
I feel they are promoted way too less, not many people have access or are even aware, even tho the feature itself is great -

Of the channels I'm active in, only 1 has moments. People would use them more if more people had access to them. Plus, you currently can't activate them on mobile, even though it's a / command. Please let more active streamers have access to moments.

Moments have been one of the only positive features Twitch has rolled out in recent memory. Removing them would have a significantly negative impact the quality of the streams that make use of them. For those streamers and viewers, it doesn't feel like a Beta Feature because it has become such a fun part of those streams. If anything, Twitch should workshop the Moments tool \with viewer and streamer feedback and make it accessible to anyone who wants to use it.

I only just found out about this feature at the same time I learned it was being discontinued. I think it sounds like a lot of fun and would like to be able to experience using it for myself before any decision is made to remove it.

Moments are amazing for the speedrunning community! One of the best features on the website IMO. My only complaint about moments is there was not enough moments to give out!

A moments badges is good for a community chat member in twitch and is so important for me as a viewer so i can support my streamer to improve more in their content 💜.

The moments badge is SO IMPORTANT to my community. I give them out consistently every time we 100% a game. Since it released ive given out 50 moments badges and everyone gets so excited. When I saw the announcement we were all really upset. I genuinely hope they dont get rid of it.

What a ridiculous decision by Twitch, Moments are an awesome feature with which the only problem was the terrible rollout. And so, instead of expanding it to everyone, Twitch gets rid of it for "limited use". Pathetic.

Pretty much the only feature that I would be sad to see go. The claim time should be longer though. It's way to easy to miss.

moments are so much better than so many features that still exist on twitch!

I’m shocked that this is even on the table for removal. Any streamer I watch who utilizes moments gets a lot of chatter engagement of people trying to rally for something to be a moment. People are sad when they miss a moment, or want to stick arond to make sure they get their badge upgraded. If anything I expected the moment system to be expanded.

This feature is incredibly valuable and has great potential. Moments allow those viewers who are really invested in a community a way to grow a badge that shows their commitment, and it is meaningful to everyone that claims a Moment and chooses to display their badge. As a streamer with Moments, it is also very fulfilling to see and recognize when someone's badge evolves.
I was personally sad to learn that Moments would be completely discontinued without asking for my feedback as a part of the beta. Were any streamers or community members in the beta asked for feedback on their user experience with the feature?
Several other comments have been posted with many brilliant ideas to enhance Moments. They've already thought of so many ways to continue building upon it as an essential feature, which shows it already has a big impact even with limited participants included in the beta.
We want this! Please listen - keep Moments, roll them out to more streams, and consider new ideas like tying them to Featured Clips and emote slots. Let viewers continue to feel as included as possible within our communities.

The removal of Twitch Moments Beta, if deemed underutilized, could have various adverse consequences for streamers and viewers. Here's why it might be seen as problematic:
Lost Engagement Opportunity: Moments allowed streamers to interact with their audience by creating and sharing memorable highlights in real-time. Its removal may reduce opportunities for streamer-viewer connections and memorable streaming experiences.
Viewer Rewards: Moments enabled viewers to earn badges based on their engagement, fostering loyalty. Its removal could discourage viewer engagement and support for streamers.
Content Curation: Moments curated the most exciting parts of a stream, aiding viewers in revisiting or sharing highlights. Its absence might hinder viewers in finding the best moments within lengthy streams.
Streaming Culture: Moments contributed to the live streaming culture by encouraging active participation and celebrating significant moments. Its removal could dilute the streaming experience, making it less engaging.
Missed Feedback Opportunity: Beta features are meant for gathering user feedback and improvement. Removing Moments prematurely could prevent valuable enhancements and a more successful future feature.
Innovation Potential: Features like Moments can evolve significantly with time. Premature removal might hinder innovation and Twitch's differentiation in the live streaming space.
Community Building: Moments facilitated stronger communities around streamers by offering shared experiences. Its removal may hinder community building efforts.
It's important to note that lack of beta use doesn't negate future potential or value for some users. Twitch should weigh the long-term impact on its ecosystem and user experience when removing a feature.
