Keep Moments
Moments is a feature that Twitch released as a Beta to a handful of creators. Whenever something cool happened in your stream, you could give out a "Moment" to those who were there to witness it. Twitch just announced they are discontinuing it as of October. I'm writing this to ask you to reconsider.
The Moment was a clip that was created when you gave the command, and allowed for some minor editing. Anyone who claimed the moment would also receive a badge, and the more moments you claimed, the more your badge evolved over time. You could even click on someone's badge to see what moments they were there for.
As a creator, I was part of the Beta for Moments. This was an INCREDIBLE tool for engaging my audience. Most of the time, the Moments were for small little silly things that happened, but it allowed for my audience members who maybe couldn't afford to sub or cheer to showcase their loyalty to the stream by having a badge that said "I'm here for all the moments." The irony of the strength of this feature was that it wasn't really for "The Moment" you were there, but for combination of all the small little moments you got to share.
Growing on Twitch is about engaging your audience and giving them reasons to come back. Moments allowed viewers who tuned in for the day the chance at "being there" for something cool. It created an opportunity for people to stick around more and watch more of my content.
Anytime something cool happened my audience would say "MOMENT?," and so much so that I made an emote for the very thing. The emote ranked #1 in both my channel and outside my channel since it's creation for me.
It's failure as a feature is rooted in
- The Beta was too limited. Not enough people who could benefit from it were given the chance to use it.
- There was not a lot of push from Twitch to help creators understand why the feature is so good.
- The feature needed more feedback to shape it into something truly special.
Imagine having the badge and also attaching an Emote slot to Certain Tiers. Imagine having more options to really edit the clips so that you could really encompass the Moment. Imagine having MORE MOMENTS to give out so you could be more free with giving them out.
The reason it was cut was "limited use by the community" and that they would strive to "Create features that bring value to streamers"
Moments IS that feature. The badge is such a cool function. You don't need to make it compete with Featured Clips, in fact just having them on the viewer's profile under the badge is enough.
Please reconsider axing this and please actually reach out for feedback to those of us who get access to these Beta Features.

Anyone reading this, don't waste your time with that clip, it's the same default copypasta response we've heard time and time again: "enough people didn't use it".... when it wasn't even accessible to all partners and affiliates. Everyone who received a moment should be considered using it. Find me one big streamer chat where you don't see moments badges and that streamer didn't specifically say they weren't gonna opt in and actually had access to the program.
The reason Twitch that doesn't want it, is because they don't want permanent clips (which take up server space) to be so easily accessible to everyone.

CEO Dan Clancy addresses the return of Moments: https://clips.twitch.tv/BlightedSucculentSalsifyDogFace-gTf40mIrkIXsWzYS
That's no excuse. It's entirely the platform's fault that DOESN'T KNOW how to promote its good tools. His approach is pathetic, because the point of the issue was never the efficiency of the platform, but rather the carelessness they had with a good tool for the community. Recently in a conversation with streamers from Brazil, the CEO said that the community is the channels' greatest asset, but it is nothing more than empty words, because when you see tools like moments being diluted due to the platform's incompetence, you see that the focus is only money. Which, ironically, makes the dilution of moments even more disastrous as it was a chance for channels to get more loyalty, subs, donations and so on. All they had to do was disclose it correctly, it was the only problem in the whole situation. Twitch treats the user like an idiot.

Re: SpeedStrat's clip on CEO Dan Clancy addressing Moments: https://clips.twitch.tv/BlightedSucculentSalsifyDogFace-gTf40mIrkIXsWzYS
As a developer, I agree with this take. Twitch is a massive platform with a lot of bloat and debt in the infrastructure. It's hard to justify maintaining a feature indefinitely, increasing that debt, when it's only used to effect by a tiny percentage of the user base—even if it's a good idea and adds a lot to the user experience of those select few.
That said, this could also have indicated a failure on Twitch's part. Maybe the feature's existence was not well-known because it was an "experiment" and Twitch didn't do much to spread awareness of it. Maybe its use case was not made clear to streamers, so they weren't encouraged to experiment with it. Maybe the UI was unintuitive. I'm sure they discussed this at length internally, but it could be that they themselves could have been responsible for the lack of adoption.
I see Moments as a unique community experience that's hard to capture through other features. I have hope that the feature, or at least the experience it enabled, will make a return in some form.

meanwhile, Twitch continues shipping "stories" to users, and it might be the most useless feature on any web product that I've ever seen

The fact that twitch simply doesn't care about any sort of feedback, even the kind with 4200 votes makes me realize why there even is a viewer suggestion box.

I was heartbroken when I went to do a moment tonight and got the notification that the beta had ended. The engagement and the badges to show who truly stuck around your stream was so cool, and this is probably the neatest thing Twitch rolled out since I've become an affiliate a few years back. I truly hope they reconsider and bring this back for a more wide release.

Nothing has been more exciting or more enjoyable than moments. Just because a feature doesn't make you money, doesn't mean it's useless. This feature really allows excitement amongst chat and the streamer. When something really cool happens, it becomes even more exciting when the streamer makes it a moment. Plus the fact that you can look back at any moment you were there for is pretty cool. It was an awful idea to get rid of moments. Especially when the Twitch community who got to use it, enjoyed it. @iateyourpie tried to get in contact with an actual human at Twitch so he could talk to someone about this feature and why getting rid of it was a bad idea. Instead he was met with; when we send out emails asking for feedback, you can talk to us about your feedback. #ripmoments

I loved the moment feature I loved earning the different tier badges. I have a tier 7 badge in someone's chat just because we loved to convince them to give us moments all the time. They used the 5 a month. I had them and I barely streamed during that time and only ever gave out one moment and that was my 3 year affiliate anniversary. I would use them if I still had them as I've started back streaming a bit more recently. I loved the engagement in the communities with the moments and I would like to see them at least come back maybe just have the badge under people's profiles only if the clips storage space is an issue. If twitch would actually reach out to the viewers and the content creators on twitch I'm sure they would hear some of the same things from many others.

This is the #1 most upvoted topic on uservoice right now, and Twitch has decided to completely ignore the community and remove moments. Why keep uservoice when it's obvious that Twitch does not care at all about what the community has to say?

Gotron0 commented
Honestly, if the storage space of clips is the problem, even having just the badge is fine!

I wonder if maybe there is something else driving their decision that they are not telling us or not being entirely transparent about it. For example, maybe the added cost of storage for all those extra clips that will never be deleted is impacting their decision.

Seeing the soulless non-response to this well thought out uservoice post and everything else Pie has done really just makes me sad. The upper levels of Twitch love to tell us how much they listen and how much they pay attention to uservoice. This is extremely clear proof that those words are simply hollow.

As a viewer and streamer (who unfortunately never had access to giving out Moments while they were available), I felt like they were an amazing tool to grow communities and promote watch time, which not only benefits streamers, but Twitch as a whole when it comes to ad revenue and viewer retention. People *WANT* to be there for hype 'moments', why would this go away with no real reason given?
This is a wasted opportunity and something another platform will pounce on when it's erased off Twitch. Not enough streamers had access to Moments and to say that it isn't beneficial by axing it before it even saw the light of day for so many people is beyond unfathomable. Please reconsider this decision and actually talk to the creators and users on your platform instead of sending some robotic, cryptic, and cold response about whether or not you're asking for input.
We are the people that keep your brand alive and you should always be looking for input to make your site better. Here's my free advice. This is a good thing, better than you know, and it's saddening and disheartening to see it go away so unceremoniously and with so little explanation as to why it was necessary in the first place. Please reconsider, or at least reach out to help us better understand why this was something that needed to happen.

You really should think about keeping and utilizing Moments. Why not get rid of the stupid "React" button? Are you sure that, you guys at Twitch HQ, looked at the stats for React and instead just said it was for Moments. All the channels that I follow, that had access to Moments, used all 5 in the month. You kind of owe the ones that love Moments a shot at keeping them. Just leave it in Beta and just let everyone access them. Cause again not everyone needs that stupid React button. In fact no one needs it, cause its not used!!! Moments was actually used by more than the "50% of streamers" and it definitively improved the metrics for "more than 1% of users".
Anyways you at Twitch need to do better at engaging the community and what we want!

I'm deeply disappointed in Twitch's decision to let Moments die. It was legitimately the best idea Twitch had in YEARS, and my personal favorite. And possibly the favorite of the 4000 other people who voted on this post. Not only did Twitch kill a fantastic feature, but they additionally blatantly ignored its users as the second most voted post on this UserVoice website.
From what I've heard multiple people say, most didn't even know they had access to this feature. It was made so that you had to come across the feature by chance, and y'all had the GALL to say less than 1% users used it. Well, in case you guys don't know, it's VERY hard to use a feature you didn't even know you had!
Do better.

Please reconsider Moments and what it does to help streamers have engaging streams, and foster community on Twitch. This feature has created so many fun -moments- in streams that were able to use them.
The potential for Moments to become even more fun and useful is staring you RIGHT in the face if you only cared to open your eyes.
Bring back moments!!!
