Protect Vulnerable People
On January 24th, 2025, a Twitch user intentionally shared (streamed live) private messages I had sent them, which included deeply personal details about my struggles with suicidal thoughts. They mocked me for seeking help, used my online/Twitch name, and publicly laughed at my situation. They disclosed sensitive information without my consent—information that had the potential to harm both my reputation and the work I do online.
I asked this individual to take down the VOD that contained this recording, and he refused. Instead, he mocked me again and made threats on Twitter. I reported the VOD more than 30 times through Twitch’s reporting system and even contacted your Support Team directly. The only response I received was a series of emails explaining how to report someone—despite the fact that I had already done everything by the book. No action was taken.
This person was allowed to get away with mocking and harassing a vulnerable individual. There was no accountability, no follow-up, and no support. Twitch claims to have systems in place to protect vulnerable users, but in reality, those systems failed me completely.
The VOD—containing my online name and a recording of me being mocked for my suicidal ideation—remained up for nearly two months. It traumatized me every day it existed. Despite my pleas, Twitch Moderators and Support Staff did nothing except send me automated responses, while the person who caused this harm remained active on the platform. The VOD was only eventually removed after nearly two months of inaction—not because Twitch intervened effectively, but because time ran out.
Now, of course, there’s nothing left to report. And I know exactly what response I’ll get: a copy-pasted line about how "Twitch cares about protecting vulnerable people and holding others accountable." But that’s not the truth. The truth is that your team seems more focused on passing responsibility around than on actually taking it. The truth is, I followed every step, I cried out for help—and I was ignored.
Twitch does not protect or care about vulnerable people, and I am living proof of that. I still have the recording of my own of the incident. I still want this person removed from Twitch and punished for their behavior, but ultimately to remove his right to stream on Twitch since he actively harmed others and is massive problem if he does this again. It's clearly not going to happen and Twitch is probably just going to delete this message because, "they care so much about their community and protecting vulnerable people."
