Addressing Double Standards in Content Moderation
I wanted to bring to your attention an ongoing concern within the community regarding what seems to be a double standard in content moderation, specifically the disparity between the treatment of IRL streamers—particularly in categories like hot tubs and pools—and VTubers.
It’s frustrating to see that IRL streamers, often wearing revealing outfits like bikinis, are allowed to stream with minimal restrictions. Yet, VTubers, who use animated avatars, face stricter guidelines and even risk bans for things as minor as showing their hips—something that seems inconsistent, considering the much more lenient approach toward live-action content in similar categories.
This discrepancy sends a conflicting message to creators on the platform and creates confusion about what is or isn’t allowed. Many in the VTuber community feel they are being unfairly targeted for content that is far less revealing than what is regularly broadcasted by some IRL streamers.
While we understand the importance of maintaining Twitch as a safe and welcoming platform, we urge you to address this imbalance and provide clearer, more consistent guidelines across all content creators, regardless of whether they are using avatars or streaming in real life. We hope you will not continue with selective enforcement of the Terms of Service.
Thank you for your time and attention to this matter. We look forward to seeing a fairer approach to moderation moving forward.
