Ban appeals shouldn't be so one-sided
Ban appeals shouldn't be so one-sided
Currently, my understanding of the appeal system when banned from chat is:
- users are not told why you are banned, but you get to see the last 5 messages you sent.
- users only get a small number of characters for their unban appeal, which may not be enough.
- users are not told if OR WHY their appeal is denied
- mods cannot ask for clarification since they cannot respond to the appeal, and vise versa.
Since banned users cannot see who chat users are, banned users have to ask moderators to contact them off-platform in order to actually have any discussion.
Instead, appeals should be treated as a whisper between the user and a "moderation team" 'user' (ie, the responding moderator's user isn't revealed to the user).

I would add to that, that ban appeals and their history should be preserved for review, and that the channel owner can always see them. There are channel moderators who abuse the ban and timeout functions to troll and harass viewers also. If they ban someone on their sole discretion, they can simply squash any appeal with the broadcaster being none the wiser. This is especially bad, if the viewer has no other option to reach the broadcaster about the issue.

Exactly, when I was banned in April I was told it was because of "inappropriate behavior" but they would not tell me exactly what I said (I have autism and cant understand social cues) I can't remember what I said in the Appeal, but I wish she would let me know exactly what I said instead of mocking, ignoring, and hiding away from me.
