Intentional misuse of tags ie. Vtuber tag on non-Vtuber
There has been a recent rise in streamers misusing the tag system, most noticeably with non-Vtubers using the Vtuber tag. This makes discoverability more difficult for both streamers who are actually Vtubers, and viewers trying to use the tag system to find Vtubers. Even prominent streamers are misusing tags, so this behavior has been spreading. I'd like to ask Twitch staff to please enforce action on the misuse of tags to help the streamers and viewers who are using the tag system as intended. Banning streamers from using specific tags they have been caught and verified to be abusing them might be a helpful solution to consider.
Hi, thanks for flagging this and sharing your suggestion.
We share and understand your concerns about how the intentional, repeated misuse of tags can undermine the purpose of the tags product itself. Tags are an important discoverability feature for communities, and a powerful way for all Creators—but especially those that are underrepresented—to express their personal identity and creative vision for their content.
We also do not feel Twitch should be the judge of Creators’ personal or creative identity, so we typically only enforce against the misuse of tags when it is associated with other behavior that violates our Community Guidelines such as hateful conduct or harassment.
That said, as the VTuber community’s experience demonstrates, there are limitations to this approach and we are actively investigating additional steps we can take to protect and improve the integrity of the tags feature at scale, without infringing on good faith Creators’ personal choice to express themselves and define their content.
Our goal is to have more to share with you about the tags feature later this year.

It's hard enough for smaller vtubers with less assets to gain any form footing without having to worry about being pushed down the list by individuals who care nothing about what they may be doing to damage someone's chances at doing what they love.

I was thinking of one day doing some vtubing myself, but it would be difficult to do so if people thought I was just using the tag like others.

This is a huge problem and is definitely not restricted to the vtubing tag. I've seen a lot of streamers gaming under a variety of completely random and unrelated tags which takes away the efficacy of said tags as well as potential viewers of streamers /actually/ streaming the content described.

If twitch allows larger non-vtuber streamers to deliberately misuse tags, such as "vtuber", while said streamers are clearly doing so with an ill-intentioned mindset meant to skew search results, then Twitch would be demonstrating that they are intent in fomenting a culture of Nepotism and unfair and unbalanced platform visibility manipulation, at the expense of legitimately hard working vtubers who have spent blood and tears strengthening the significance and meaning of the vtuber category AND hashtag.
It as a gross and sickening display of platform power abuse by larger streamers towards whom, unless Twitch acts upon to punish, we can do absolutely nothing about, except doing our best to get our voice heard.
I can only hope that twitch will do the right thing and enforce the punishment of blatant misuse of Twitch streaming categories.

What is the point of having tags in the first place and not willing to fix it? Tell me Twitch what is the point?

Nobody likes going to Google, looking up something and only finding what they are not looking for. Why is this any different.

this is a big problem. its very annoying when i'm looking for specific stuff and end up clogging good vtubers from actually being seen. it sucks that big-name people that don't/barely even Vtube have the tag when it isn't their main source of content.
I'm FINE with vtuber tagging as LONG as you're tubing, main or not, but if you've got the tag while you're not in vtube format? buzz off. it doesn't apply. it's literally lying for views. that's trash.
even worse is when folks decide to mask the lack of tubing and distract with suggestive content as if that makes it otay? it doesn't.
distractions from the facts don't change the facts.

It’s a problem when streamers misuse other tags to gain more audience while actual VTubers suffer under it :/

You'd of thought this would of been something Twitch would of naturally enforced....

This really is a big problem. These streamers use the "Vtuber" tag now and divert attention with suggestive sexual content, only delete comments and ignore twitch rules, these users should be banned, maybe they will stop doing it.

Huge problem. It also seems to be streamers with a very large & already-established audience doing this (xCq, Amouranth, others). What is the reason? When streamers with large followings misrepresent themselves via Vtuber tag, I struggle to believe it's in good faith. With an already massive audience, what is there to gain by doing this? Could it be an attempt to garner more popularity & viewership because "Vtuber" is a hot topic on Twitch? If & when this is the case, and I strongly believe it is sometimes, action needs to be taken. Massive personalities should not just get a free pass for this.

There is literally no reason why this shouldn't be checked. Its literally a way to gauge your users interests. Not a way for people to increase their viewership in such a cheap way. The Vtuber and Asmr tag is being misused by one of the biggest twitch streamers. Giving them a free pass just cause their big is a Rich get Richer mentality, which makes sense cause Twitch is literally owned by Bezos

This is pretty clearly trying to game the algorithm by lying about your content, and the TOS need to be enforced

This seems like a cut-and-dry case. The rules clearly state how tags should be used. Some streamers are clearly misapplying tags. This should be fixed if a single person brings it to your attention; action should be taken. I’d say for users who break this rule, their ability to use tags should be suspended for increasingly longer lengths of time.

I feel like as long as the content is at least *tangentally* related to what is in the tag and/or category it's fine, and it's easy to figure out who the trolls are. For example someone drawing FFXIV fanart might stream in the FFXIV category rather than general "art" due to the former having a more direct audience for what they're doing.
But someone streaming say, Roblox and tagging it ASMR while talking about how ASMR is stupid is a whole different story. Same case with vtubers and the facecam streamers using the tag to call vtubers slurs.

This is your rule. Help us enforce it and make your platform better. We care about Twitch!

It’s simple. Using the vtuber tag when it doesn’t apply is straight up lying and taking advantage of the system to the detriment of smaller streamers.

ArupacaK commented
The TOS clearly states that you must use the tag that best represents what you are streaming. Why is there no action taken against this yet?

As if VTubers in general don't suffer enough, we gotta deal with these kind of stuff too? Please Twitch, do something about it. This is disrespectful.
