Abstract Theme I wasn't sure what to use for this and I think that's the point. Puzzle titles like Tetris, Pong, Breakout, and the like are very hard to define in terms of a Theme based on the choices available.
An Abstract Theme might be the best case in these situations.
3 votesHi! We talked about adding this theme, and we all agreed that it's a good idea. We just have to write clear guidelines around it. We are looking to add this as soon as possible. Thanks!

Allow Users to Pick Their Preferred Cover Art Simple as. While they should adhere to guidelines, users should be able to opt for which box art they prefer on IGDB. Doing so would not only be preferable for some who prefer some art over another, but would also fleshen out the Database by letting users see which artwork corresponds to which region.
90 votesHeya!
There’s absolutely a need for multiple covers as a data point, we hear you :) Let’s clarify what this could mean in the near future:
One thing that we are currently looking at is expanding data for Localization, and covers are an obvious fit for this. However it’s worth pointing that Localized cover and additional cover might not mean the same thing. For example offering the Japanese specific cover doesn’t mean having multiple variant for it (different artworks, logo style, dimensions etc..).
We will start with Localization, which will help provide API users more options for their own communities. And as a second step from there we would begin looking at how to offer multiple variant of a single regional cover so that users may pick & choose.
Hope this helps!

"Released" or "In-Development" statuses This might sound redundant, but perhaps is would be beneficial to make the Status of a entries "Released" or "In-development" instead of leaving it blank for this development state.
It appears rather common people confuse the terms of Alpha, Beta. etc. for something they need to fill out without understanding what those states are, marking a fully released title as an "Alpha", or leaving a title in perpetual "Early Access" after the full release. Contrary to all other data points of an entry, this is the only one it's encouraged to be left blank, while new users feel compelled to…
4 votesHey! This is not a bad idea, however it is going to be a bit hard to do that with our current set up for statuses. We are worried that it might cause confusion for some contributors that are working on games or adding games that are between stages where "in development" and "released" won't apply. So we would need to think about how to expand this feature carefully before taking action. We will investigate further on this topic. Thanks!

Hi!
Could you give us more information what you mean in this case? By status do you mean adding a new one along side Alpha, Beta, Early Access, Cancelled etc..?
If so how would you define Dropped, it sounds like it would be similar to cancelled, as in the development has been in definitely put on hold.
Thanks!

Individualized Rejected Submissions Fields. This feels topical...
So, when an entry/game submission or edit is rejected and discarded, it's kind of all-or-nothing. If one major thing is wrong with the edit, often the entire submission has to be rejected, just for practical reasons.
It might be beneficial if Admins had the option to select sections of a submission to reject, like Title renames, content deletion, or bad cover art changes while the rest can be approved without the entire entry to be resubmitted..
6 votesThat is absolutely correct, and the right way to have in the long term.
It is however a very complex and time consuming engineering project, and has been postponed due to priority and need to have basis. That we’ll eventually tackle it is likely, but not in the near future.

The ability to link Gamejolt with your games The ability to link a gamejolt.com page with your games since most of my games are on Gamejolt and i'd like to make categories for them
3 votesHi!
We looked into this and we thought that indeed adding Gamejolt might be a good fit. This has been added to our backlog and we’ll take a look at it when we can.
Thank you for the suggestion!

Random Game Button Just a button on IGDB to go to a random game in the database. Maybe you can set a date frame or different filters to it but in general a button to show a random game would be awesome.
14 votesHey!
This is a good suggestion thank you! This has been discussed a couple of times in the past. We can’t promise any ETA on such a feature but it would be interesting to investigate.
Our main concerns so far would be what can be included is random: should it have filters, should it be games on all platforms or only selected ones, all age ratings etc..
If you have more ideas or specifics that always helps, we’ll leave this ticket open meanwhile!
Thank you! -
Add "Game Commercial" as a type of video There is already a wealth of video types one can choose from when uploading a video related to a game, but commercials for a game are not included. These commercials often give an insight into the culture of the era in which the game was released, or occasionally have some lore or culture of their own.
6 votesHey!
Good news! We discussed this internally, and thought it would indeed be a great addition! We’ll be adding a new category for our videos labeled Commercial Trailer.
We’ll be in touch once it’s done and live! Thanks again for the suggestion :)

Plug-and-Play/TV Games Platform This one I never really considered until I came across multiple good examples, and they are a step above Tiger Electronics games.
Plug-and-Play TV Games, or Handheld TV Games were cheap, "toy-isle" games that hooked up directly to a TV to play one-off titles, coming with a cheap controller or even a light-gun.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Handheld_TV_gameTMNT examples:
http://www.hardcoregaming101.net/tmnt/tmnt13.htmI wouldn't look to add each and every one as a Platform, but a generic "Plug-and-Play" Platform like the legacy Mobile Platform could help give these a Platform to live on.
4 votesHey!
We looked into this and thought it was a good fit for sure. We might end up tackling this at the same time as better handling of similar platforms such as Tiger electronics.
Thanks!

Video-only Critic Reviews This might be alittle complicated without some way for Users to manually submit Critic Review links, but there are a large number of high profile journalists and game reviewers that have stepped away from writing full articles on a game that an AI bot can web-crawl, and have switched to primarily YouTube video reviews. Many of these are now on Metacritic as well.

Disabling TBD/Release Dates for Cancelled Titles. When sorting lists by Release Date, titles missing ones are often sorted to the front as future titles, or to identify ones that need a Release Date added. However, cancelled titles never hope to come out, and therefore never will have a date. Ability to disable this setting, or identify the time it was announced as cancelled could alleviate this problem, over a permanent TBA or TBD.

Wikidata Add Wikidata item related to the game. Wikidata links to IGDB and this could be a way for IGDB to link back to Wikidata.

Email Notifications of Pending Submission Comments/Questions Sometimes users may not log onto the site for a time, while there may be pending questions from Admins that may require feedback or clarification to get approved.
Having the ability to enable Email Notifications for new comments on pending entries could help notify users in a more convenient way.
10 votesHey! There is very much a need for this absolutely. However it wouldn’t be a simple implementation at this point of time.
We’ll definitely stay in touch when we proceed forward!

80% soundtrackdon't ask the user for a final score determine the total score based on each category
does not have to be my idea though just upvote this if you wanna see a more robust review system

Add chapters of games Many games have chapters, which could be listed here potentially alongside a time to beat for each chapter since games can have 30 minute chapters or 2 hour chapters. This would help people get general ideas of where they are in the game, or simply compare playtime by chapter.

Replace Green Backdrop for Missing Screenshots with a Default Placeholder Image Currently, when titles do not have an included Screenshot, the highlighted backdrop of the page displays a green background color. While I'm sure this is intentional in order to entice users to always be sure to add one, there isn't really anything that communicates this is what caused the green background. Further from an aesthetic point of view, it highly clashes with the purple "theme" of Twitch/IGDB.
As a suggestion, Twitch channels that don't include a background image will display a repeating pattern of the user's name. Or, an icon to signify a broken image to tell users to add…

Automatically sync our libraries from Steam, GOG, Microsoft Store, Nintendo eShop, Playstation store, etc. Including subscriptions. To build up our personal libraries on IGDB, we wouldn't have to manually search for and add each game. We could simply connect our IGDB accounts to our accounts on all of those services, and IGDB would automatically populate our libraries with the games that exist in our libraries on each of those retailers. Steam, for example, has a 'sign in with Steam' function that IGDB could implement, and we could use it to connect our IGDB accounts to our Steam accounts. Other game retailers have similar functions; that's how GOG Galaxy 2.0's integrations work.
This way, in IGDB I'd…15 votes -
