  1. Just a button on IGDB to go to a random game in the database. Maybe you can set a date frame or different filters to it but in general a button to show a random game would be awesome.

    Hey!

This is a good suggestion thank you! This has been discussed a couple of times in the past. We can’t promise any ETA on such a feature but it would be interesting to investigate.

Our main concerns so far would be what can be included is random: should it have filters, should it be games on all platforms or only selected ones, all age ratings etc..

If you have more ideas or specifics that always helps, we’ll leave this ticket open meanwhile!
    Thank you!

  2. I've been looking at how to get a card game that is currently being streamed on twitch by a few people listed in IGDB so that twitch will have it listed as a game.

Currently people are just streaming it under the Magic the Gathering label because you have to pick something and that is card-gamey. But whilst MTG is the largest card game, many other games are seeing success online in various forms.

Whilst pokemon and MTG command the limelight in terms of box openings etc.
There are plenty of people playing other card games virtually over webcam or…

  3. Sometimes users may not log onto the site for a time, while there may be pending questions from Admins that may require feedback or clarification to get approved.

Having the ability to enable Email Notifications for new comments on pending entries could help notify users in a more convenient way.

Hey! There is very much a need for this absolutely. However it wouldn’t be a simple implementation at this point of time.

We’ll definitely stay in touch when we proceed forward!
    thanks

  4. There is already a wealth of video types one can choose from when uploading a video related to a game, but commercials for a game are not included. These commercials often give an insight into the culture of the era in which the game was released, or occasionally have some lore or culture of their own.

    Hey!
Good news! We discussed this internally, and thought it would indeed be a great addition!

We’ll be adding a new category for our videos labeled Commercial Trailer.

We’ll be in touch once it’s done and live! Thanks again for the suggestion :)

  5. It would be great if I could get notified about game info changes for games I follow. Maybe you could show a message in notification section for this.

  6. Add Wikidata item related to the game. Wikidata links to IGDB and this could be a way for IGDB to link back to Wikidata.

  7. Something that would mirror my preferences from Twitch, as well as save battery life on mobile phones/laptops and be easier on the eyes from all the stark white would be the ability to have a Site-wide Dark Mode.

There are a few displays this would probably help as well, like you're daily output graph on the Karma Hunters page, which can be difficult to view on some LCD monitors at non-optimal viewing angles.

  8. This one I never really considered until I came across multiple good examples, and they are a step above Tiger Electronics games.

Plug-and-Play TV Games, or Handheld TV Games were cheap, "toy-isle" games that hooked up directly to a TV to play one-off titles, coming with a cheap controller or even a light-gun.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HandheldTVgame

    TMNT examples:
    http://www.hardcoregaming101.net/tmnt/tmnt13.htm

I wouldn't look to add each and every one as a Platform, but a generic "Plug-and-Play" Platform like the legacy Mobile Platform could help give these a Platform to live on.

    Hey!

We looked into this and thought it was a good fit for sure. We might end up tackling this at the same time as better handling of similar platforms such as Tiger electronics.

    Thanks!

  9. (Confirmed in the pipeline)
In addition to Steam and mobile platforms, links to the web storefronts of additional platforms would be helpful.

    Heya!
Update on this, we identified one possible issue which is that unlike PC stores, most console links are region specific.
So we’re investigating how we could either generalised them or whether we’d introduce this when we tackle localization of IGDB.
    Stay tuned!

  10. When sorting lists by Release Date, titles missing ones are often sorted to the front as future titles, or to identify ones that need a Release Date added. However, cancelled titles never hope to come out, and therefore never will have a date. Ability to disable this setting, or identify the time it was announced as cancelled could alleviate this problem, over a permanent TBA or TBD.

  11. This feels topical...

So, when an entry/game submission or edit is rejected and discarded, it's kind of all-or-nothing. If one major thing is wrong with the edit, often the entire submission has to be rejected, just for practical reasons.

It might be beneficial if Admins had the option to select sections of a submission to reject, like Title renames, content deletion, or bad cover art changes while the rest can be approved without the entire entry to be resubmitted..

  12. Pick topics on how to review a game

    example
    20% gameplay
    80% soundtrack

don't ask the user for a final score determine the total score based on each category

does not have to be my idea though just upvote this if you wanna see a more robust review system

  13. To build up our personal libraries on IGDB, we wouldn't have to manually search for and add each game. We could simply connect our IGDB accounts to our accounts on all of those services, and IGDB would automatically populate our libraries with the games that exist in our libraries on each of those retailers. Steam, for example, has a 'sign in with Steam' function that IGDB could implement, and we could use it to connect our IGDB accounts to our Steam accounts. Other game retailers have similar functions; that's how GOG Galaxy 2.0's integrations work.
    This way, in IGDB I'd…

  14. When a entry is "deleted" in favor of a duplicate.

Send a update for and update both entries.

The old/dead entry, remove all data (consider the remove optional) and add a

    replaced_by: new_id

    entry.

The new entry is updated with an existed_as which is an array of "old id's" that have been merged into the record

    Hi!

We looked into this and we thought that indeed adding Gamejolt might be a good fit. This has been added to our backlog and we’ll take a look at it when we can.

    Thank you for the suggestion!

  16. The idea is to have a special section called "Editions" which would be different from "Versions". This section would be only dedicated to collector's editions, GOTY and so on. Could be added under the "This game is a version." section on the edit page, as "This game is a special edition."

    Hey!
Yesterday we released the first phase of a project to redo version which helps this. We do still have versions, but going forward it will only be used for editions indeed.
we added support for Remake, Remasters, Expanded Games, Ports, and Forks. Any of these won’t need to be marked as a Version anymore :)

  17. Few companies maintain the same name forever. Some rename, merge, are bought out, or generally acquired. It would be helpful to manage the progression of various devs and publishers with a timeline progression and/or a tree of ownership.

    Ex.
    1) Squaresoft > Square > Square and Enix merge > SquareEnix

    2) Namco and Bandai merge > Namco Bandai > Bandai Namco Games

    3) Activision and Blizzard Merge > Create holding company called Activision Blizzard that owns the two companies Activision and Blizzard.

    Hello!
We are looking at redoing our company data taxonomy, part of which is possibly adding several ‘layers’ to companies, such as Divisions for example.

Companies are a bit lacking at the moment as we historically have been focusing on Games, but we gradually intend to start giving them more love :)

    Stay tuned!

  19. This might be alittle complicated without some way for Users to manually submit Critic Review links, but there are a large number of high profile journalists and game reviewers that have stepped away from writing full articles on a game that an AI bot can web-crawl, and have switched to primarily YouTube video reviews. Many of these are now on Metacritic as well.

  20. Something fairly simple: a "clear all notifications" button on the "Your Notifications" page. I do a lot of editing at once, so it's a bit annoying to have to remove each notification one at a time when I'm bombed with "your change has been approved" messages. Maybe a similar thing for the notification bell button up top as well?
