User Accessibility

How it works:
  • Choose a relevant category for your idea and check to see if any other users have already submitted this suggestion before creating your own
  • Be clear with your suggestion, provide examples and solutions to the problem you are posing. Suggestions without actionable feedback may be closed without comment
  • Upvote existing ideas, as opposed to creating multiple similar requests
  • Be sure to share your suggestion with others to gain more support!
  • Note: Suggestions are not guarantees that we will take action on an idea. We will try our best to communicate why an idea may not work, but may not always be able to share that information.
  • Titles that are unclear or unnecessarily vulgar may be reworded to better reflect the request for ease of discovery

If you need help:
This forum is for ideas only. If you need help, please check out our help portal for tons of articles that may answer your questions. If you still need help, you can reach out to our support team in the help portal as well!

Appeals or commentary on suspension decisions, support requests, suggestions disparaging others, and non-constructive feedback will be closed without comment.

  1. It would be nice to have the option to have a light themed chat while in theatre mode for those of us who use light theme as default. Right now it switches to dark theme whenever theatre mode is enabled while watching a stream.

  2. I like the previously posted idea, but no accessibility features should ever be locked as rewards behind achievements. Folks shouldn’t need to be affiliated or partners to provide captioning to their audiences.

  5. Neurological disease, Lou Gehrig's disease, Dystonia, Neuromyotonic. These are just a few issues people suffer from that are characterized by mild to severe muscle spasms, or "twitching." The community feels that the website name is a mischaracterization of a very common issue afflicting thousands of people who use the site. The name is ableist, offensive and disheartens many potential viewers and streamers.

  6. Some people enjoy watching streams of games they enjoy/have an interest in purchasing but don't want to follow that specific channel (for whatever reason).
However, there's a certain little pop-up that covers the bottom portion of the stream, pointing at the follow button, that says "Come here often? Come back to [insert Streamers name here] channel FASTER by hitting that follow button" (with a bunch of hands pointing down at the follow button like we can't see it).

See, some of us just want to watch a stream, chill out and not feel pressured to follow/sub/whatever and I wouldn't have…

  7. There have been a number of DJ dance/music channels on the front page recently. They automatically play when loading the page, and often have full screen quickly flashing effects. This triggers my photosensitivity/epilepsy a bit.

I would like a way to opt out of those types of videos from either showing, or auto playing, on the front page.

  8. When you press Control + Space all the UI disappears. Im not sure this is a feature, but it clashes with Control+Command+Space which opens up the Emoji window. Thus, it's impossible to open the emoji window within chat. (MacOS)

  9. To be able to filter channels followed by "Last seen live" in reverse to allow for filtering of possibly inactive channels.

This would help users at the 2,000 followed channels cap easily find who to unfollow to maintain a more active followed channels list.

  10. OBS plugin that a live captioner could use - currently it doesn't seem there is any captioner-compatible software to use with OBS/Atem - this would mean higher accuracy captions for live broadcasts as currently accuracy isn't so great and also cuts out.

  11. I've noticed that closed captioning automatically filters swearing. To be honest, this is less than ideal. It assumes your hard of hearing and hearing impaired users need to have language filtered for them, to a standard which non-hearing impaired users don't. An important part is all language translated accurately as possible, otherwise you are directly deciding what language is more important for the disabled client. If a person wants to engage with streamers that swear it should be their choice whether or not they want to see that content, not chosen for them.

Please note: How to handle slurs within…

  12. Hello,

My deaf friend and I have a helpful idea for deaf twitch users. We think deaf users should have a deaf badge to let everyone know that we are deaf. Streamers and viewers will know we are deaf and other people are deaf too. I don’t have to type I’m deaf like 3-5 times. My username looks like normal as everyone else and they will quickly know my ears are actually broken. My username is MadFlyTTV_SiN. I am a deaf streamer and a viewer too. I have had difficult time to reach some streamers who dint know that I…

  13. I use a TTS reader to read chat to my headphones, and mix it in with game audio and music. I've toyed with running two concurrent streams from my computer so that legally blind viewers could open both and have chat read to them in real-time, but it hasn't been stable enough. Not sure if possible, but if a secondary audio channel could be utilized by the broadcaster, those needing chat read to them could turn it on and control its volume to be able to keep up with chat.

Alternatively, an in-page TTS reader might also be a good…

  14. Occasionally emotes contain text and letters that are a bit hard to read. I know Twitch accepts up to 112px emotes, but seems to use the smaller ones in chat. Simply having a little checkbox to show larger emotes would be super helpful to those with limited sight.

  15. Sometimes a streamer announces a specific time when they will go online and do something special (an event, an announcement, etc.). It would be cool if I could get a small sound alert when that streamer goes online so I can in the meantime play some game or do other stuff while waiting and don't have to watch the clock all the time.

  17. As someone with a condition similar to Narcolepsy I am potentially subject to sleep attacks - without notable warning.

As far as i am aware, the current ToS would result in me being potentially banned should i have a sleep attack while streaming and not have a Mod in chat at that precise moment.

I am currently a small streamer (and while that reduces the likelihood of me being reported for 'unattended chat while streamer sleeps' it doesn't eliminate it - and that may change over time), and as such it is not always possible to have a mod lurking…

  18. Captions show up in VODs if they are sent to Twitch through an OBS plugin. However, they do not seem to appear on Twitch clips on Twitter or in the Twitch Clips player.

  19. Currently there is only 3 text alignment where you can only select "Left, Center, or Right" so whenever you select neither of them, the captions does not line up neatly to the same width of the box.

We should have another option called Justify where it would line up all the text nicely which is more tidy, what justify looks like can be seen here - https://www.w3schools.com/cssref/playit.asp?filename=playcss_text-align&preval=justify

Also, I'm surprised that dyslexia font is not included in the font section. Please add dyslexia font, it will be beneficial for those people as well.

What do you guys think? I would…

  20. Currently, twitch has one Sign Language option for the stream language settings, which is American Sign Language.
It would be good to see more options here, including a catch-all "Other Sign Language" for the smaller Sign Languages that may not be present in the list.
