Everyone is (not) a streamer, celebrate it!
Content creators are the backbone of Twitch, but viewers are the lifeblood and without dedicated community members who engage with the streamer and those that support them monetarily there would be no platform.
“everyone can be a streamer” but not “everyone is a streamer”
To be very clear there should not be an increased barrier to deciding to start streaming for your friends or even beginning a path to becoming a content creator.
Right now, if you see a new viewer in chat, outside of their community channels, you do not have any idea about them. If you visit their profile, you are greeted usually with “we don’t know much about them” and a “they haven’t streamed in a while” placeholders.
Recommendation: Enable a selection on the user’s account to set it to a viewer mode.
Viewers need to be able to self-identify their account and celebrate their not-streamer nature and be rewarded for the critical roles they play. You may say “But they are rewarded with emotes, badges, alerts and overlays!”
There are some rewards yes, and these rewards are key in helping viewers support streamers while feeling like a valued member of the channel community. The variety of ways that can be used to support are important as well because not everyone can support in the same way and having diversified methods of support are important.
Some elements of the existing profile could be more highlighted, and others can be electively removed entirely. Here are some suggestions:
Profile: Allow viewers to highlight the channels they are a member of and show off their sub-tier, multi-month streaks, bits badges, gifted subs and channel points leaderboard status!
Profile: Allow viewers to disable the schedule feature entirely OR enable them to display the schedules for their chosen channels (like the streamer shelf)
Profile: Videos and clips the user has created, this can include Moments when that feature becomes more widely available
These changes should not only be related to the profile but also to Twitch achievements! Here are some suggestions:
Allow viewers to see a separate set of rewards for things that help building community on Twitch.
Be the first chatter in the chat
Reply to a chat in chat
Use *** channel points to redeem a reward
Use XXXXXXX channel points to redeem a reward
Watch streaks for attending live X streams in a row (it really helps!)
Watch VOD streaks / hours for consuming recorded streams from their channels (not everyone is able to watch live!)
What do you think? Have an idea to make this suggestion even better add it to the comments!
