  1. Voting is integrated into Twitch chat. When there are ads to be played, let the viewers decide which one(s) should play. This weeds out ads which the viewers of a channel don't like or have seen too often, and it will give Twitch useful feedback on the longevity and/or interest level of ads to take back to advertisers.

To avoid spamming the chat with polls, the results of an ad poll will apply to any ads played on the channel for at least two hours.

  2. I totally understand the reasonings towards ads. Although, I click on a video because I want to watch that video l, not 8 ads as the live is playing. I miss a huge chunk of the stream I’m trying to watch. I get having 1-2 ads but 8 is way too much. I missed so much from the live and it was pretty upsetting.

  3. Like the header says, I want to avoid pre-roll ads, so I try my best to run a 60 sec every hr.. but when I do I receive a lot of grief about how other streams don't run mid-rolls...

What is Twitch doing to support those who attempt to do this right? As I understand Mid-rolls are a much better way to deliver ad's.

  4. I'm not a content creator myself, but I thought of an idea that may help with ads experience after watching the Twitch Townhall.

From time to time, content creators needs to step away from their chairs and sometimes they do not know how long they need to step away for. Instead of having a fixed bank amount of ad blocks, allow content creators have a dynamic way to play ads. It would work like this:

    • Creator needs to step away from the computer
    • Creator clicks on (Start adblock) button
    • Creator can take 30 seconds to get food or 3 minutes…

  5. The idea is that a user could sit and watch adds in return for an amount of ad- free watch time. E.g. I watch the Ads channel for 10 mins and get 2 hours ad-free watch time on other streams

At the moment streamers have no control over number and duration of ads so we have as situation occurring many times where a crucial part of the narrative is in effect deleted by an ad.

On TV we have the situation where "...and the murderer is ... <advert break> .. "The butler!!"

On twitch we are getting "... and the…

  6. If we must have ads playing incessantly, which don't get me wrong, I understand the business need for them, how about we limit them to 10 seconds or less? As much as it still stinks to miss 10 seconds of a stream, it would at least suck less than missing like 30 seconds or so. It would be a nice middle ground between Twitch getting the ad revenue it needs and us, the viewers not getting interrupted.

Secondary idea to tag on to this: Warnings when ads are about to show up. Like youtube does, or did... or does? Give…

  7. Allow mods/editors to see when another editor runs an ad. Currently it just says failed to start commercial and you can only see how much time you have left until you can run another ad in the creator dashboard but you have to try and run an ad.

  8. They do more harm than good, when I'm trying to moderate. Especially during technical difficulties and issues with the stream staying connected.
I have to sit through 10-30s of ads every time they get the stream back up, to help diagnose or otherwise let them know what could be the issue. Or having to get the info a second time from them because I didn't hear them when they first came back.
Simply put, they're useless on the mod page, and in some cases, could potentially make the user experience worse because of the lack of communication between streamer and…

  9. One of my favorite streamers started using ad breaks to disable pre-roll ads. That's awesome, it sounds like that will help with gaining new followers! But I don't want to see ads. I was thinking about buying Turbo, but I already have so many "qualifications" (aka revenue) that seem like they should qualify me to not see ads. Here's why I think it's unreasonable:

    • I have Prime
    • I'm Subbed
    • I'm VIP
    • I've donated over 2k bits
    • I've gifted subs

Suggestion: reaching the 100 bits badge will grant immunity from midroll ads for a month.

Suggestion: Being VIP grants immunity from…

  10. Your new addition that tells viewers that if they are on twitch.tv they need to turn off their adblocker is going to drive viewers away. It is broken. It doesn't work. I will tell you that again... because, I turn off my adblocker and still get that message. I can see people not watching us and going to facebook or that other microsoft streamer ap... that I don't like. Please remove it.

  11. It is your right to complain about adblockers and tier-system that remove ads, but I think that you just check if the user has one and not if the tier-system is running or not. So every X time you show your complaint and block the stream and that is painfull, especially if the user took the time to remove tier-system ad blockers.

  12. Had this idea, didn't really know where else to post it. Just trying to get it out there.

So I know Twitch has been struggling to come up with a way to monetize with ads, and with the whole "forced mid-roll" fiasco, I think everyone is worried that whatever they do will be very "un-Twitch" by trying to emulate live TV. So my idea was to just gamify it.

Twitch recently added the little icon dudes that everyone can choose as their logo, and I thought that could be like your Twitch persona, and you basically just turn ad watching…

  13. Ads during music streams are incredibly disruptive due to the fact that the audio is the primary focus of a music streamed. Forced ads are inherently detrimental to the quality of the stream and content. I propose that as a part of any future Ad policies that Twitch not implement forced mid-roll ads on Music streams of any kind.

  14. It feels counterintuitive from a creator stand point. Though I appreciate the stance of supporting creators, there must be better ways to implement paid ads. Personally, I'd love to see a system in place that connects partnered streamers to advertisers through some sort of partner panel. Plenty of streamers do paid ads already, but if you connect a streamer to a physical product to try on stream (a drink, snack, service, etc.) It's more interactive for the audience, and the streamer. Effectively stream lining your advertising practice, and through that service you would be able to still collect revenue of…

  15. I've been interested in twitch turbo for some time now, but the only feature I want is the ad-free viewing. It would be neat to have a lite version at a cheaper price for ads only. $8.99 is quite steep if ad-free viewing is the only feature I use.

  17. Only Twitch is benefiting from ads being played on smaller channels of Twitch Affiliates, while Twitch Partners earn more from ads. Make it fair.

  18. I can't possibly describe my disgust seeing the amount of Buffalo Wild Wings or Chipotle Cuban Steak ads. I don't force my ideals on other people, I'm quiet about my decision, so please allow people with vegan/vegetarian related diets to opt out of any animal products being advertised to them.

  19. Turn off the pre-roll ads. Completely. I'm seriously done with your service entirely. There's only so many times I can watch the same Butterfinger, McDonald's or 5 Gum ad before I lose my mind. You seem to think I need to see one every time I open a new channel. And you seem to think that if I don't sit through it to see the channel, I need to see another one. We're done, Twitch.

  20. Its simple, 1-5 bits, for every ad I get for the new stream I watch, because that incentivizes people going through new channels, in their favorite games and finding new channels to watch. Shakes up the viewers, helps them find more people, AND helps them see their support in bits stack to give to the better streamer at the end of that hunt or they go back and give it to their favorite channel. But atleast they find new and wonderful streamers, something that's painful to do with the first ad everytime they watch a stream. Even in raids it…
