Make email verification mandatory
With the ongoing outbreaks of follow and hate bots "raids", the creation of multiple accounts is simply too easy to abuse on the platform. Creating an account on Twitch does not require an authentic email address before using its services: watching content, following a streamer, sending messages in streamers chats, modifying the account details, etc.
Many streamers are being harrassed by bots and "IP Grabbers" by:
- Mass following streamers with inappropriate names and account details;
- Mass spamming chats with obscene languages and characters (ex: racism, homophobia, transphobia, nazi, etc..);
- Having extensions on their user profile which allows them to grab the IP Address of Twitch users, and broadcasting them.
At the moment, when creating an account, you do not need an authentic email address and you are not required to verify the account since there is a function to verify at a later time with "Remind me later" (Example of account creation: https://youtu.be/1waYtIUHkz4)
My proposition is the following:
Before using any of Twitch services, the account must be verified by email, and there should not be any way to by-pass this verification process. To sign-up to Twitch, the user should be inserting their email address, in which a one-time registration link could be sent out to.
Doing this will slow down the creation of fake accounts used to mass follow & mass hate streamers.

This would restrict more than it would help

I had a name that I deleted 3 years ago that I’m trying to reclaim. No one is using it and I STILL can’t claim it . I’ve confirmed no has been using it, or used it multiple times over the 36 months it’s been released
Support is useless with the issue

So far it only seems that the only work around is have a verified accounts only chat for this. I've been using it and it does help weed out the burner accounts

Someone recently came into my stream and grabbed my ip, then through a derogatory comment at me. The next day after I changed my password, my authentication code for 2fa came from a standard phone number and not the normal 5 digit twitch text. Is that normal? Do I need to be worried? What do I have to do?

I need help with follower botting, does anyone know what I should do? I was suddenly followed by 800 "people" with almost the same profile pictures. I feel really uncomfortable!

Please make it more difficult/time consuming for 'bad actors' to circumvent your systems and implement this change!

I enjoy the content that is generated on twitch and if it means I will consistently get great content at the expense of doing a little bit of extra work - and honestly what is being discussed here is the minimal level of effort required for most platforms - then it is worth it.
Protecting the creators, the ones that this entire enterprise is based on, is really the obvious choice. -

Seems easy enough!

This should be a minimal requirement at the very least to prevent abuse.

We absolutely need this. Good stuff.

I didn't even know about the "remind me later" until recently, and it's confounding. E-mail verification should be the bare minimum. I agree with this.

Having more authentic accounts should also be a positive for possible advertising partners.

There are several places that have this implemented, some so strict, that you can't post until you've verified your email. So this is a definite yes.
