1. Horror Based Category

   Horror is such a massive hyper specific genre that only really serves to its own viewer base - and the absolute chokehold indie horror has on the genre is significant - but there’s virtually no way of seeking this out on Twitch.

   I would love to see the inclusion of a horror based category, not only for viewers to discovery indie horror games that are nearly impossible to search for, but also a home for anything spooky and horror specific.

   This will also help curate horror into a section that those who are squeamish or triggered by horror can avoid.

   The category can also expand beyond JUST horror gaming, and include horror podcasts/topic of discussions, full talk shows or any spooky related content like short films, spooky IRL streams and more.

   A directory based on this specific genre would be incredibly helpful for not only creators, but viewers who have no way of accessing this wildly popular genre of entertainment!

2. Altered TCG

   A category dedicated to the new trading card game Altered TCG. Streaming who are playing Altered TCG IRL, doing remote fights, or booster pack opening streams can use this category, and viewers who are interested in Altered TCG can easily find it on Twitch.

3. "songbattle.io" Category

   "songbattle.io" is a music-based tournament that is often played by streamers along with their communities and audience. These streamers have been asking us, the developers, for a category repeatedly, and do revert to "Just Chatting" most of the time.

   We have proposed songbattle.io to IGDB, but were rejected due to them not considering it a game by their guidelines. Instead, they proposed we try here, referring to cases such as "Dungeon Alchemist", which is not a game per se, but still used by streamers and their audience.

4. "PokeMMO" Category

   PokeMMO is the best Pokemon MMO game out there and deserves it's own category. This 12 year old MMO always has consistent viewers, and twitch partners have to stream under other categories like "Pokemon MMO 3D" making it confusing for viewers. 5. "Mini Painting" or "Miniatures" Should be a Category

   "Mini Painting" is a distinct and vibrant community on Twitch, but it does not have a logical 'Category' home on twitch. This community is currently divided amongst a handful of existing categories which are each misleading or overly general.

   "Mini Painting" streams are easily recognized by an overhead shot of hands painting miniatures for RPGs, Board Games, Tabletop Wargames, or for display. These streams often have a secondary face-cam, and possibly even a third camera for a paint palette. They are a distinct type of content. Typically there are close to 1000 concurrent viewers watching content creators from the Mini Painting community.

   The easiest way for Twitch to support this branch of content is to give it an appropriate name. "Mini Painting" is my suggestion, but "Miniatures Painting" or "Miniatures" also give the correct idea.

   This community is currently split between existing categories such as "warhammer," "art," "makers and crafting," and "just chatting." This hurts discoverability for mini painters. They are all overly broad, and they are often misleading.

   Please, Please, PLEASE add "Mini Painting" as a category. :-)

6. "Coworking and Study" Category

   Last year, you all implemented a "coworking" tag for WFH, study, and remote working streams.

   All of us in the coworking community really appreciated the tag! It helped users and viewers find streamers to study alongside, especially in a time when everyone was working from home. Even now, a year and a half out from the tag introduction, many users are still working from home, looking for coworking streams to pass the time and find company in.

   Unfortunately, the addition of custom tags—while innovative and helpful for many streamers generally—has presented a problem for the coworking community. It's no longer easy for coworking streamers to use their designated tag to aid discoverability.

   There are, after all, SO MANY iterations of "coworking" that could be used: "coworking," "co working," "study," "WFH," "costudy," "working," "studying," working...." and the list goes on.

   This lack of clarity has effectively nullified the benefits that the designated "coworking" tag gave us back in early 2021, muddying the waters and hampering discoverability for coworking streamers.

   ALL THAT SAID, now that custom tags have been introduced and the discoverability environment has changed for us, it would be incredible to get a designated "Coworking and Studying" category for coworking streamers to live in. Not only would it help viewers find us, it would also help us discover other new coworking streamers much easier—especially when not many know how to use the tag system efficiently.

   There are a lot of scambaiters on Twitch and that list keeps growing. It would help scambaiters in getting exposure as well as assist members of the scambaiting community in finding new scambaiters to watch if there were a scambaiting category. 8. Channel Category: Education

   Putting this idea through since the last one was marked as complete in 2022 but isn’t actually available to use.

   A request to put a new category called “Education” in.

   We have great categories like software technology or science, but sometimes we want to educate or run a workshop that doesn’t fall into a specific category listed.

   Whether it’s streamed workshops, someone teaching a subject they love and are passionate about, or just a bunch of our educational friends sharing our crafts this could allow for something a bit more interactive that isn’t just “Just Chatting” or “Talk Shows and Podcasts” which may not necessarily showcase interactivity, or that it’s educational.

10. Multiple/Stacking Categories

    Hey there Twitch loving friendos,

    Categories on Twitch are fantastic and one of the major things that helps to connect us with each other. I think we can all agree that categories often help us find a new stream or even pick between which streams we want to watch in that moment. I understand why we have to pick a category when streaming instead of streaming in many or none, but there are some categories that are really hard to connect with others in and others where it's great it exists for the niche audience looking for it but if someone isn't looking for that very specific underrated gem or whatever... are never going to find you.

    So imagine this, we have the category system much like we currently have where you could pick the specific game you're playing as always but if you select (for example) "Retro" and next to it it pops up an additional category field where you can pick "Secret of Mana" (a category that often only has 1 viewer even though it has over 35.3k followers as a category, a "dead category" as it were) - imagine how much that would help you reach both groups? The Retro crowd as well as the passionate fans of the specific game? Another example would be when you select "Games + Demos" and then get to also select the game/demo you're playing because they more often or not already have their own categories but there's nobody looking at those yet except the game publishers/developers. It'd help connect the makers of the games, the streamers, and potential viewers all together way more effectively than just being in the category for the game or the category for "Games + Demos". This applies to many categories that already exist but are much larger nets of things that also have their own infrequently looked at categories that are streamer CCV killers when used on their own, even though they have many fans/people interested in checking them out in the world.

    There's also some weirdness where there are categories for just different releases/ports of the same game and it divides fans in ways it likely isn't intended to. If we could select the game as a main category and then the specific edition of it as a secondary category in case people search for it that way, that'd be amazing. A recent example I had several streamer friends all vent to me about would be: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim as a main category (a category that has 2.5m followers) and being able to pick "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - Special Edition" (a release that cleaned up some graphics and loading screens which is a category that has only 180k followers). Many people are looking for Skyrim and don't mind which edition it is, but WILL miss a stream they might've loved depending on how they searched the category yet some people might be pretty upset if they can't distinguish between the versions of games.

    I LOVE the Games + Demos category and the Retro category, but I know for a fact that there are many games that fall under them that have their own categories with fans of these games I love that I wish I was reaching also. However right now you have to pick between those and which wonderful people you are going to exclude. Some things can be done with tags, but we don't have enough tags already as it is sometimes and we all know tags and categories hit different. They are used so differently - they are followed different since categories are followable and tags always have to be searched, the custom tags are GREAT but also not having some standardized tags means a typo or just a slightly different stylization of the same thing means you miss everyone you're looking for like a ship in the night but a category will never let you down like that.

    The argument for sub-categories like that Retro -> Secrets of Mana or Games + Demos -> Rabbit and Steel Demo, Makers + Crafting -> 3D Printing 👀, or other such examples is one that I can elaborate on further if desired. But I have another thing I'd like to bring up.

    In addition to/alternatively to a stacking sub-category system, it might be more beneficial to add the ability to add multiple categories to the same stream at the same time even when they are unrelated. So unlike Retro going with Super Mario World, an example would be if you were in the category Placid Plastic Duck Simulator but you're also doing Stream Raiders battles every half hour and doing Art in the meantime while both the others are still on stream. Which category do you pick? If you're doing Makers + Crafting stuff but you're also doing Nitro Stream Racing, why should you have to pick between them? And which one is the "more correct" to pick.
    Please consider giving us either multiple category fields by default, still keeping that it's against TOS to stream to irrelevant categories and stuff so people don't do anything weird with it, but making it so that we can do a main game + Stream Raiders or Art + Nitro Racing or whatever AND/OR please consider letting specific categories trigger unlocking an additional category for things like Retro + Specific Retro Game or "Games + Demos" and Specific Demo. If it was both, the ideal would be having [Number Higher Than 1] default category fields AND when you select broad umbrella categories like Retro or Games + Demos then it'll prompt you to select an additional subcategory that you'll also show in, in addition to the blanket category.

    The amount of success this would help people playing obscure games that are related to much larger viewer bases could help, or the people doing multiple types of activities at the same time could be aided by this... it's just off the charts what this would do for streamers.

    It would also be amazingly helpful to be able to have multiple categories on the VODs where you have done multiple things in that stream instead of it just being categorized as the one you started with. It would help so very much. There are many streamers who do more than one thing in the same stream and would love to be able to at least expand what the VODs are listed as.

15. Refine the Music category into more specific categories.

    The Music category has got extremely stacked in the last couple of years. I'd like to suggest creating sub-categories for Music, or more specific Music categories like Music Production, DJ, Radio, Performance, etc...

    With Music being a such a broad category at the moment I feel like it's a challenge for people to find the specific kind of Music content they want and it would also help music streamers who specialise in specific areas of the category find their audience a lot easier in what is currently a massively popular (but congested) category.

17. Twitch category name collision

    Currently two (or more) games with the exact same name (usually reboots) share the same category in Twitch. And all the cover art, description, tags are taken from only one of the games. This usually means that the other game(s) effectively completely lacks a page on twitch, despite being a completely different game and having unique gameplay. Can something be done about this?

18. Adding a "Shibari" Category for Safe, Educational Purposes

    Shibari is an art form and if given the ability to educate and teach others safely, I believe a lot of viewers would enjoy learning about its therapeutic nature and artistic beauty.
    I have been practicing shibari as "self-ties" for nearly four years and have, recently, become more public about the therapeutic and artistic nature of shibari and have found that a lot of people are curious and wanting to learn more about Rope. Besides YouTube, there aren't a lot of video platforms that casually speak and or talk about shibari without associating it with bondage and kink. With so few resources to reference, the public can have a lot of misconceptions about Shibari and see it for it's extreme themes. Let's help educate and show the artistic beauty by educating and providing a space for people to view and learn without the kink themes.

    With Twitch's Rules, Regulations, and Content Classification Guidelines, there are already clothing requirements/dress codes for content creators using other categories so the same requirements would apply with this new category. Mannequins can also be used for shibari educational purposes as a demonstration option if need be.

    The category of studying would be nice addition to categories.

    I’ve seen many streamers with Just Chatting while they study something.
    I think it would be helpful if there’s Just Studying just like Just Chatting.

    So viewers who is nice enough to help them or who can share the knowledge of whatever they’re studying can easily find streamers studying on their stream.

20. Just Dance 2023 & 2024 (and beyond) being named to "Just Dance"

    Upon the Launch of Just Dance 2023 Edition, they switched to a new engine and that is officially the main Just Dance. If you look at the title screen, the game is just called "Just Dance". 2023 & 2024 are "Song Packs" for the base game. Since they drop song packs every year now, it keeps splitting the viewerbase more and more due to it being marked as separate games. We would like the possibility to merge Just Dance 2023 & 2024 categories and call it "Just Dance" instead. This game is the last in the series and will just get song pack dlc releases annually from now on, so it isn't a new game every year anymore. To summarize, the DLC is currently being treated as full fledge games when that is not the case. This problem will only get worse after every new dlc release.
