Keep Moments
Moments is a feature that Twitch released as a Beta to a handful of creators. Whenever something cool happened in your stream, you could give out a "Moment" to those who were there to witness it. Twitch just announced they are discontinuing it as of October. I'm writing this to ask you to reconsider.
The Moment was a clip that was created when you gave the command, and allowed for some minor editing. Anyone who claimed the moment would also receive a badge, and the more moments you claimed, the more your badge evolved over time. You could even click on someone's badge to see what moments they were there for.
As a creator, I was part of the Beta for Moments. This was an INCREDIBLE tool for engaging my audience. Most of the time, the Moments were for small little silly things that happened, but it allowed for my audience members who maybe couldn't afford to sub or cheer to showcase their loyalty to the stream by having a badge that said "I'm here for all the moments." The irony of the strength of this feature was that it wasn't really for "The Moment" you were there, but for combination of all the small little moments you got to share.
Growing on Twitch is about engaging your audience and giving them reasons to come back. Moments allowed viewers who tuned in for the day the chance at "being there" for something cool. It created an opportunity for people to stick around more and watch more of my content.
Anytime something cool happened my audience would say "MOMENT?," and so much so that I made an emote for the very thing. The emote ranked #1 in both my channel and outside my channel since it's creation for me.
It's failure as a feature is rooted in
- The Beta was too limited. Not enough people who could benefit from it were given the chance to use it.
- There was not a lot of push from Twitch to help creators understand why the feature is so good.
- The feature needed more feedback to shape it into something truly special.
Imagine having the badge and also attaching an Emote slot to Certain Tiers. Imagine having more options to really edit the clips so that you could really encompass the Moment. Imagine having MORE MOMENTS to give out so you could be more free with giving them out.
The reason it was cut was "limited use by the community" and that they would strive to "Create features that bring value to streamers"
Moments IS that feature. The badge is such a cool function. You don't need to make it compete with Featured Clips, in fact just having them on the viewer's profile under the badge is enough.
Please reconsider axing this and please actually reach out for feedback to those of us who get access to these Beta Features.

What a ridiculous decision by Twitch, Moments are an awesome feature with which the only problem was the terrible rollout. And so, instead of expanding it to everyone, Twitch gets rid of it for "limited use". Pathetic.

Pretty much the only feature that I would be sad to see go. The claim time should be longer though. It's way to easy to miss.

moments are so much better than so many features that still exist on twitch!

I’m shocked that this is even on the table for removal. Any streamer I watch who utilizes moments gets a lot of chatter engagement of people trying to rally for something to be a moment. People are sad when they miss a moment, or want to stick arond to make sure they get their badge upgraded. If anything I expected the moment system to be expanded.

This feature is incredibly valuable and has great potential. Moments allow those viewers who are really invested in a community a way to grow a badge that shows their commitment, and it is meaningful to everyone that claims a Moment and chooses to display their badge. As a streamer with Moments, it is also very fulfilling to see and recognize when someone's badge evolves.
I was personally sad to learn that Moments would be completely discontinued without asking for my feedback as a part of the beta. Were any streamers or community members in the beta asked for feedback on their user experience with the feature?
Several other comments have been posted with many brilliant ideas to enhance Moments. They've already thought of so many ways to continue building upon it as an essential feature, which shows it already has a big impact even with limited participants included in the beta.
We want this! Please listen - keep Moments, roll them out to more streams, and consider new ideas like tying them to Featured Clips and emote slots. Let viewers continue to feel as included as possible within our communities.

The removal of Twitch Moments Beta, if deemed underutilized, could have various adverse consequences for streamers and viewers. Here's why it might be seen as problematic:
Lost Engagement Opportunity: Moments allowed streamers to interact with their audience by creating and sharing memorable highlights in real-time. Its removal may reduce opportunities for streamer-viewer connections and memorable streaming experiences.
Viewer Rewards: Moments enabled viewers to earn badges based on their engagement, fostering loyalty. Its removal could discourage viewer engagement and support for streamers.
Content Curation: Moments curated the most exciting parts of a stream, aiding viewers in revisiting or sharing highlights. Its absence might hinder viewers in finding the best moments within lengthy streams.
Streaming Culture: Moments contributed to the live streaming culture by encouraging active participation and celebrating significant moments. Its removal could dilute the streaming experience, making it less engaging.
Missed Feedback Opportunity: Beta features are meant for gathering user feedback and improvement. Removing Moments prematurely could prevent valuable enhancements and a more successful future feature.
Innovation Potential: Features like Moments can evolve significantly with time. Premature removal might hinder innovation and Twitch's differentiation in the live streaming space.
Community Building: Moments facilitated stronger communities around streamers by offering shared experiences. Its removal may hinder community building efforts.
It's important to note that lack of beta use doesn't negate future potential or value for some users. Twitch should weigh the long-term impact on its ecosystem and user experience when removing a feature.

Moments were a feature that I'm gonna miss. Not every streamer is going to use them effectively, but the streamers I followed that made a point to use them, like OP, had me significantly more engaged with Twitch than I usually am.
There's something very fun, to being able to point to something, and say 'I was here!' And Moments give the streamer power to engage audiences and communities by being able to invoke that feeling.
And for streamers that made use of the feature regularly, it made tuning in a lot more fun, the idea of seeing something cool, and being able to get excited for the prospect of being 'there' for something, being able to add another badge to your sash.
Not every streamer is going to make effective use of it, sure. But the same could be said of Super Chats, Bits, ad breaks, channel points, predicitions-- so should we remove all those things, too?
I think it's a mistake to get rid of Moments.

It's incredibly unsettling that Twitch would choose to remove a feature that, if you're in touch with the community at all, has clearly had a positive impact with viewers and streamers alike.
I also don't agree that "limited use" is a valid reason to remove a feature that A: Has only been provided to a fraction of Twitch users and B: Has not been effectively promoted or advertised to said users. You have a feature here that is widely loved and sought after by those who actually know about it. Don't kill it before it has a chance to flourish.
I don't know how Twitch expects to thrive against their growing competition if this is the kind of direction they're going to continue to choose for their platform.

Ah yes, the traditional cycle of mismanagement: introduce something, fail to make the most of it, blame its failure on the users instead of yourself, remove it, repeat. Well, a lot of us actually LIKE this one, so the buck stops here!

Of all of the streamers I follow, only was granted access to Moments. I've really enjoyed them. A shame Twitch is getting rid of a feature that users enjoy, but was released to a small number of people. Pretty typical on their part: remove a feature that's well used &/or enjoyed & replace with a feature nobody asked for, much less wanted.

Moments are cool. As someone who has been a part of many communities over the years, but could never sub, moments are nice.

Commenting again because of how nice moments are. I've been on a number of streams that use them - two that love them, and one that doesn't care about them but still uses them. In all 3 streams, the chat - the community - is always excited over a moment. Even the streamer that doesn't show outright support for moments fails to realize just how active chat gets over the moment.
Chat gets excited and happy, saying "I was here!" and the like. Mods playfully argue over who gets to execute the moment and if they couldn't before someone else did. It's a cool little feature that I genunely believes needs more time to determine it's worth, and more importantly, a much greater sample size.
Even if they are too similar to just a regular clip, the scarcity of moments and the cool badge you get by being there in the stream instantly makes those "clips" much more valuable.
Please reconsider removing them, they're a fun part of any stream.

I say roll out features for everyone and then see if it really is "low use". I always wanted moments on my stream when I accomplish things and its a good way to engage the audience to claim them and brag. It's a QoL for not only the streamer but the viewers as well to interact between each other.

I never had moments rolled out to my channel, but had a bunch of people asking if I had them, and saw lots of chatters super engaged in chats where moments WERE available. They were excited whenever something wild happened on stream, hoping it would become the next moment they were there for.
Not sure why you would get rid of a feature that strongly promotes viewer retention in a fun, positive, and minimally parasocial way before at least rolling it out to more than a handful of streamers and also taking the time to explain to the people who have it why it's actually a good feature.
strongly agree with iateyourpie's assessment.

Excellent feature that supports creators' ability to grow their community - not just 'audience' or 'customers' but literally the community, the people. Without the people you don't get your money either, why would you axe it? Short-sighted. Don't remove it, if anything we need more tools like this!

Never heard anyone complain about the existence of moments during the beta, if anything I've only heard people complain that they don't have them yet. Really cool feature that would definitely be missed if removed
