[MERGED] Bring back colored /me chat messages + Update the /me command to color chat messages FOR MODS/BROADCASTER ROLES ONLY
Or at least give streamers the authority to enable or disable it. But the ENTIRE point was how it stood out with color. Plain black with italics just renders it useless.
Hey all,
Thank you for the patience with us on this. This has been one of the most popular ideas on UserVoice and we definitely heard your feedback.
Today we launched /announcement for mods and streamers. Announcements can be used in chat to highlight a message and are available in 4 different colors along with the channel accent color. Because this is only part of the ask of this idea we are setting this idea to partial release so the community can continue to leave feedback on this.

I think this could be a fantastic point to start at for true customization per broadcaster. I'd love to see options like this opened up to the streamer and letting them choose how their streaming environment operates. If you're a broadcaster that has excessive 'fake donation' messages, flick the tab off. If your community isn't like that, allow coloured text. A simple prompt letting a viewer know that the action they tried to make in that particular stream would be a great way to free up the rest of the users on the platform who'd benefit from it. I'd love to see this logic applied to a bunch of other features (new and old) in the future.

Even if each streamer can have the ability to turn it on or off that would be good. Some people have trouble reading the italics and so it causes miscommunication.

I would love to see the colour coming back and if its only for mods and broadcasters i think thats fair enough as it helps broadcasters show people what are commands and what is just normal chat

So if I understand you correctly, we have removed the /me coloring or your name so that it's not highlighted in the color of your name when used in chat because someone was saying hateful and harmful things to someone else in chat using this feature?
So now, those few people have ruined a feature of a chat room that has utilized for good more than for harm. Meanwhile, I can only assume those using the /me in an offensive way have been punished properly for abusing this and future abuse will be treated the same.
How is using the /me to be hateful any different than just typing @ the person in chat? It just makes them more noticeable and easier for a mod to ban from the chat. Are we removing highlighting your name when someone types @ you next?

Punish all for the actions of a few is what the response translates to. If someone is abusing /me and it bothers the streamer they can time them out/ ban them, a mod can time them out/ ban them, any of the above can add /me to automod terms. This is a blatantly lazy way to handle a problem that has countless other solutions. If you honestly believe that /me deserved any attention before the countless other things that could be implemented that tons of people suggested I urge you to try listening to the community rather than just telling us deal with it.

This should be brought back period. if you can't discern the difference between a fake donation and a real one and that the donations coming in are that important to you then you are streaming for the wrong reason anyway.
Being able to raid someone and do it in a colorful way or even express yourself has been taken away from us.
This should be available to us all not just moderators.
This also is confusing to the streamers who use the peripheral vision to moderate chat. -

I really don't like how it looks, and it ruins what it originally did. Making the words Italics instead of colored really makes me not want to use the /me command anymore

this is a waste of time, there are other more important issues like Targeted Harassment.

I really hope it gets fixed to what it was because I can not see my own bot messages in chat and neither can my chat. Please let me have them in my flamingo pink again.

I dont understand what kind of abuse your talking about that this change would help with, people are still able to send harmful messages and try to fake certaint hings, removing the ability to hilight the message doesnt fix the issue. This change only prevents bots and moderator from being seen and im sure by now most streamers who are aware of people trying to send fake message like the donation thing for example or trying to send harmfull things have already there bot and/or automod setup to remove anything they dont want in there channel. instead of removing a useful way to get everyones attention you guys should explain to everyone new how to set that up which would be ways more helpful. especially since this is a downgrade even more then normal everything should be an option or setting somewhere where you can decide which option you want, dont force people to use features in certainw ays. give the user an option to choose how they want to use it and give the ability to choose whatever "design" is more useful for how they want to use it. Knowing Twitch the "under consideration" tag probably means something like "we dont want to admit we did bad but also dont want to be rude so we pretend to think about it but wont change anything anyways."

IMO it should be possible, that the streamer himself should choose the /me is in colored theme or not, because he (and his mods ) knows their community better than you can look even deep enough in those and I think the Streamers/Mods can choose wisely for their own community to protect the small ones and take care of the abused messages/interactions.

I rarely use the /me function, but when I do I wanna see MY color with it. There is no point in doing it when you change that. It's the same old story: A few people do sh*t and abuse stuff, and everyone else has to suffer. This "solution" is just lame old politics and childish. We're not in Kindergarden, Twitch.

Henfeny commented
The italics won't stop abuse - who on earth thinks it would? Please bring back the colors, or at least an option for the streamer to choose.

@soulwarrior252 Clearly Twitch want us all to think and act like generic NPCs. No more fun. No more flair.
It's boring as ****.

This is an unwanted forced change to every user on twitch, as it adds flavor and character to users that might have a difficulty of expressing themselves, but now without the color, it's just a more fancy way to chat with people in...chat. It also ruins so many watchers or users that have a character they like to play as for example, I like to play as a robot that usually explodes with every pre-stream chat or have a funny glitch that cause some shenanigans with other users. I actually made some friends this way through this character of mine and now with it gone, it just make me a bit angry and sad that I won't be able to do it again at the same level without the colors to the command. I want the colors back, as a default opinion, but have the only italics if users don't like it, which is seem to be a minority of them in this case.

Have coloured text was not instrumental in abuse, it'll continue anyway.

i don't want these to be combined, though. many groups used them for things like raids and this nerfs that

YES PLEASE
Here are some reasons why to bring back coloured messages or at least for some roles:
- the /me command doesn't make any sense if its only cursive, because the "me" refers to the user's colour...
- make a /cursive command or sth like that
- bot messages are much more distinguishable
- clearer view for the broadcaster
- literally NOBODY asked for this
- it is not "frustrating for some", it is frustrating for most streamers lol- it is LOGICAL that only your bot would post if someone has donated and not the users themselves? I think there are only some to nearly no streamers who don't know that....

Why not offer streamers, and maybe viewers alike, the choice if they want a coloured or italics and uncoloured /me-message showing up?
This forced at the moment change does more damage than good.
Yes, it may help people who are new to Twitch and not aware of troll-behaviour and either don't fully understand yet how Twitch works or don't trust their bots or alerts (or don't have some yet). And there are people who prefer text without colours.
But it makes it harder to read chat for many people, it's confusing for mods and streamers alike, it makes raids less fun and probably more annoying etc. Most reasons have already been mentioned in this thread.
Simply give us a choice and everyone will be happy - and maybe figure out a better and more efficient way to deal with trolls.
