[MERGED] Bring back colored /me chat messages + Update the /me command to color chat messages FOR MODS/BROADCASTER ROLES ONLY
Or at least give streamers the authority to enable or disable it. But the ENTIRE point was how it stood out with color. Plain black with italics just renders it useless.

Hey all,
Thank you for the patience with us on this. This has been one of the most popular ideas on UserVoice and we definitely heard your feedback.
Today we launched /announcement for mods and streamers. Announcements can be used in chat to highlight a message and are available in 4 different colors along with the channel accent color. Because this is only part of the ask of this idea we are setting this idea to partial release so the community can continue to leave feedback on this.

It would be nice if the announcement feature had some sort of pseudo-pinned post effect. For example, when I use /announce, that message will stay at the top of the chat box for ~30 seconds (amount of time could be settable, similar to predictions length), and after that it'll clear from the top and just be a regular message wherever it was sent.
For super busy chats, there's a very real possibility that the announcements will still not be seen, and this is a way to help them stand out more and actually be seen, which is what I believe their intention is. =)

The new announcements are great! But a little enhancement that would go a long way would be if they could be "pinned" to the top of chat for 30 seconds or so (similar to how Youtube handles broadcaster messages) so that chat could always have a chance to see them. While announcements will be great in smaller chats, in fast-moving chats they may still go unnoticed, and doing something like that would go a long way to making them more effective at communicating important messages.

It is a way to distinguish, but its not exactly what was asked for.

I like this new addition, but it would be better if the word announcement and megaphone also matched the side bars.

NorCalCamper tbh it adds exactly what we asked for... It is not text colour sure but we asked for a way to distinguish our msgs and we got it?

Bummer. Adds some strange edge to chat lines. Chat color still white. I feel like this should be a "New" feature. Its not really "Bring back colored /me chat messages + Update the /me command to color chat messages " The message text is still white.

Having the option to toggle on & off the old /me command would be the best route in order to satisfy the community. It wasn't till today that I realised this was changed until I tried to use it in order to make certain messages in chat pop out more.
Options such as who you see it sent from, such as normal viewers and/or mods and broadcasters would fix this issue and would still keep your Twitch community safe. Please consider this.

8 months and 600 comments now since /me was changed. A lot of us would appreciate an update please!

Yeah, as a viewer it is still a pain to distinguish things that could be important like chat bot / mod / broadcaster messages.
If messages with coloured text for viewers were really the problem as "we wanted to address the way this feature was being used to perpetrate abuse against members of our community." makes it sound, they could maybe allow bold messages from mods/broadcasters.
Also if coloured messages were really that big of a deal, you would think they would at least be consistent across their platform, when viewing a VoD /me messages still appear in colour.
Perhaps Twitch should add a colour blind mode for better accessibility across their platform.

Still no reply back. Seriously, is it THAT hard to give us a setting where we can disable/enable that feature?
Seems like this is is the highest voted request, yet nobody over at Twitch seems to bat an eye. It's getting more sad by the days...

Make this possible with the /colorthismsg or something, i had my commands stand out to the rest because of this.
Now its just a complete mess. This is OldSchool IRC, it worked to color the msg's on every other platform that took IRC as a base for everything to do with chat.
Or make /italic > italic, /bold > Bold and than bring back /me to colored msg

Is it too hard to have it as a setting?

It's the most voted idea. How can you not do sth about it???
If there is a community manager, they are doing a terrible job. Either by not pushing for this or by not explaining how much people want to bring this back. -

No updates for months despite this still being actively added to; So much for listening and being transparent.
Clearly the change to /me has drawn the ire of far more people than it has pleased, and if the radio silence over a change so trivial to reverse tells us anything, it’s this: “Twitch just doesn’t care”.

I suspect the “abuse” was some famous person or too-big-to-ignore streamer fell for a kid memer doing a “/me has donated $50,000,” thanked them profusely, then realized it was a joke, then had their lawyer or brand manager or powerful uncle or whatever make a phone call to an executive after they showed up on a dumb “sTrEaMeRs fAlL fOr FaKe dOnaTiOn PrAnK (GONE WRONG)” YouTube video.
If bttv hasn’t already put in a setting to restore colored /me messages we should ask them for it instead; 7 months later I don’t think we’ll see it rolled back by twitch and if there is anything we all know by now it’s that twitch tells us they want to be transparent about what’s going on while being completely opaque about what’s going on. ;)
