Hi, I know that this is a very late response, but we’re hoping to find time to address this issue later this year. There are a few steps we’ll have to take to solve this problem in a way that will work for all streamers, but we understand the severity of the issue.

You have a lot of different suggestions here, the latter of which have not been implemented so I will leave the topic open, but I wanted to let the thread know that we have recently released the ability to remove followers from your list by Blocking them.

    https://twitter.com/TwitchSupport/status/1243643979897417730?s=20

You can see how to Block a user here: https://help.twitch.tv/s/article/how-to-manage-harassment-in-chat#BlockWhispersandMessagesfromStrangers

Additionally, you can see your channel Banned Chatters in your Moderation Preferences in the Dashboard

I would absolutely like mods to be able to block user on the broadcasters behalf. This should be a thing as soon as possible.

Also prevent them from being able to follow. A lot of the bots lately are still following (with all following event triggers) even though they're already banned in channels.

Hey all – thank you so much for all of your feedback around this change. We understand that this was a feature that many of you used in various situations, including the ability for Moderators to highlight or distinguish messages in Chat, and we agree that is important. We are listening to your ideas and feedback in this area – stay tuned for updates!

To provide context as to why we’ve made the decision to remove the original functionality of the /me command, we wanted to address the way this feature was being used to perpetrate abuse against members of our community. While we recognize this change is frustrating for some, the safety of our community remains our top priority.

How is this still under consideration and not yet fixed? Seeing the number of reactions and votes this should be top priority.

Italic text doesn't stand out as much as colored text, period. Really bad change in my opinion.

    Totally agree with @ElleRows here.
Linking an account to a phone number and having an option to only allow accounts with a linked phone number could have a massive impact on trolling.
It will not totally remove it, but it will surely make a huge difference.

    Quick reply on Rosuav's comment.
3rd party software can indeed do this, but only if the broadcaster authenticates or gives a bot MOD rights.

A JSON import option for broadcasters and mods would be a great solution.
Another option would be to extend the API (https://api.twitch.tv/helix/users/blocks) and allow authenticated mods to ban users on the channels they moderate.

Seems almost impossible to implement. The only way to have an affective filter is to have humans check the names which just isn't going to happen. The next solution would be an algorithm, but how would an algorithm know what would be offensive?

Sure, exact name matches could be blocked. But that leaves you with the variations. You could try to filter those out by using the World's Best Algorithms by Oliver (ISBN 0-131-00413-1), but that will also block names that aren't offensive.

As @ashmiaou already wrote: offensive terms can be cultural or geographically defined which makes the whole thing even harder.

I agree that there is a problem with offensive names. The solution however is quite difficult.

Very much would like this. At the moment we receive lists of bot- and troll accounts which we ban on several channels. This all needs to be done by hand.

The endpoint 'PUT https://api.twitch.tv/helix/users/blocks'; unfortunately only allows blocking of accounts for the authenticated user.
