    Partial Release  ·  mouse responded

We are happy to announce that we have released an update that addresses some of these points.

Channel Banned users will no longer be able to view the chat, and they will also be removed from your Chat list. There is an issue that has caused us to pause this temporarily, but we expect a fix to be out very soon – stay tuned to the Twitter thread below for the update.

Additionally, if you Block a user, they will not be able to subscribe or follow, and Blocking them will automatically unfollow them.

How to Block a user: https://help.twitch.tv/s/article/how-to-manage-harassment-in-chat#BlockWhispersandMessagesfromStrangers

I will leave this topic open for your points about being unable to fully view the remaining content of a channel, and account creation.

How does twitch stop them from watching on their phone or using Starbucks wifi or a vpn? IP bans ARE a good additional step to help deter people, but please do not confuse an IP ban with guaranteed safety if they are implemented. IPs are trivial to change/spoof.

Locks only keep honest people out.

    Hey all,

Thank you for the patience with us on this. This has been one of the most popular ideas on UserVoice and we definitely heard your feedback.

Today we launched /announcement for mods and streamers. Announcements can be used in chat to highlight a message and are available in 4 different colors along with the channel accent color. Because this is only part of the ask of this idea we are setting this idea to partial release so the community can continue to leave feedback on this.

I suspect the “abuse” was some famous person or too-big-to-ignore streamer fell for a kid memer doing a “/me has donated $50,000,” thanked them profusely, then realized it was a joke, then had their lawyer or brand manager or powerful uncle or whatever make a phone call to an executive after they showed up on a dumb “sTrEaMeRs fAlL fOr FaKe dOnaTiOn PrAnK (GONE WRONG)” YouTube video.

If bttv hasn’t already put in a setting to restore colored /me messages we should ask them for it instead; 7 months later I don’t think we’ll see it rolled back by twitch and if there is anything we all know by now it’s that twitch tells us they want to be transparent about what’s going on while being completely opaque about what’s going on. ;)

requiring 2fa is a better idea, do you *really* want twitch holding on to a scan of your driver's license? that's one data breach away from the whole internet having a scan of your driver's license.
