Established accounts only -chat mode
Currently we have all kinds of ways to block various people from chatting, except the most important one: People avoiding bans by creating new accounts.
Thus we should have a new mode that only allows users with "established" accounts to chat, i.e. the account must be reasonably old.
Continuing with the theme of follower-only mode this should likely be configurable, with the number of days since an account was created for the user to be able to talk.
Suggestions for default: 7, 30, 90, and 180.
Even requiring 7 days since the account was created will make it significantly more difficult for people to do annoying ban evasion.
Follower-only mode is NOT a valid solution for this problem, as it completely ruins raids, and blocks perfectly legit users from chatting in general.
For new users the impact is exactly the same as follower only mode. This is just a lot better than follower only mode at solving actual issues, and reducing damage to e.g. raids.
The "established account" could include other criteria as well, e.g. jumping through a few hoops to ensure the user can be truly identified in a unique enough way that they can then be effectively banned when they make trouble.
A good idea, but I have one concern:
What about people who are new to the platform? Most of my chat was new to Twitch entirely when I began streaming. It would be really hard for new users who genuinely just joined to begin interacting. That combined with pre-roll ads might be the death of interest in the platform.
Perhaps have a tutorial beginners have to go through on using the chat?
Unfortunately at this stage it seems clear that Twitch does not care about *solving* problems, they care about the *appearance of solving* the problems.
They add tools that do not solve the problem, and ruin the normal use of their platform, such as how follower-only mode ruins raids, but after several years this suggestion has been consistently ignored.
They're probably worried that new users will find it annoying that they can't instantly go and talk to some chats, but those actual new users will likely only go to the big channels and they're lost in the chat anyway so those channels would likely not care a whole lot about this feature. No point in worrying about such trolls there.
But the vast majority of streams on Twitch are not huge, and there one person can already do significant damage, and that's where this kind of a tool would have the most benefit.
I've been dealing with harassment on my channel for a bit, it followed me to Twitch from other platforms like YouTube and Instagram. This feature would be amazing, as it would more than likely stop the harassment on my channel. Please, Twitch Mods/Devs, if you're reading this, ADD THIS!
Follower only mode is useless, as nothing stops ban evading accounts from immediately following
Some ideas from elsewhere: "Established" could also require e.g. viewing X many hours of streams, following X many people, etc. .. something to show that the account is actually active and in use by a legit person
This is a very good idea. Most of the most harmful trolls just create a new account in 2 minutes and comtinue ruining the experience for others. As a mod this makes me feel really useless and this could fix it
I'm not a streamer myself but moderator and I highly agree, that this would help alot in fighting people who dont accept a ban.
I definitely agree that this would be far better than follower-only
