Rename "Limitless Talent" Shelf Feature to Better Show That it Highlights Disabled Creators
I was honored to be one of the creators selected recently for the new shelf that is featuring Disabled creators, which seems to be called the "Limitless Talent" shelf.
It's really awesome to see that Twitch is making an active effort towards highlighting more communities, including disabled creators and working towards eventually wanting to make a guild for more marginalized communities as well.
However the "Limitless Talent" name comes across to me as a disabled person as a bit infantilizing, almost giving off the idea that you are more than your disability.
Even if you don't agree on how to interpret the current name, I think we can all agree that it doesn't make it very clear what the shelf is meant to highlight. I know the smaller text that describes the shelf is more clear, but people are often moving fast on the discovery page and you need to catch their attention. "Limitless Talent" could really describe any creator, all of us have talent, so it's just not specific enough to make it clear quickly to folks scrolling.
I personally think it would be more affirming and clear if the shelf included "Disability" or "Disabled" in the title. There's a big push in the community that Disability is not a bad word and I would love Twitch to join in that movement.
Other identity based shelves are more clear about who they're highlighting (ex: Together for Legendary Women and Together for Black Brilliance) and I think if the purpose of the shelf is to increase discoverability then this would help that and the disabled creators being featured.
If you agree, please consider voting, thank you!
Thank you so much for this feedback. We're sorry we missed the mark with the original name, and we appreciate you all for bringing this to our attention. The shelf name has been changed from "Limitless Talent" to "Highlighting Disabled Talent”.

please listen to your disabled streamers <3 disabled is not a dirty word!!!!! it simply means a lack of an ability, meaning the language choice used is incredibly infantilizing and insulting. While we are thankful to have a place in representation on twitch via the shelf, it should accurately reflect the creators that help make twitch such an important 3rd place for disabled folk worldwide!

Disabled is not a dirty word. WE ARE DISABLED and we are working hard, do not diminish what we are to inspiration ****. Please. Also, our "talents" are not limitless, nor are they talents. We work like everyone else, but we have disabilities that mean we have to work differently and harder and sometimes not as often as we'd like to make it. Limitless Talents feels like washing away what we work hard for.

Please do not minimize or romanticize disabilities or those of us with disabilities. There is a common trope that idealizes disabled people as heroic for simply existing and that’s gross. We are not here to be your inspiration. We’re decidedly *not* limitless- we are very much limited by our bodies and society as a whole.
We want to be featured because marginalized communities deserve to be highlighted and celebrated. We’re disabled and I hope you will name us as such.

The wording is gross.

The wording here feels like it romanticizes disability as if disability never causes a person difficulties or causes limits. It also feels like it glorifies disabled people not listening to their needs.

People with disabilities certainly have limits, that we try to reach or even push through but they are there and can be crushing! Using the word limitless for disabled creators seems insensitive.

We already spend our lives with people trying not to look at us or hide our disabilities to make THEM feel more comfortable. We are proud to be disabled and should be represented as such!

I don't think it was meant with ill intent but "Limitless Talent" is kind of the most ironic thing you could put us under.
We have limits, we reach them daily. We don't have the same journey as able-bodied people.
When I got the e-mail It took me a few reads to even realise what it was for. Would love to see this rebranded.
Thank you Queerlybee for this uservoice

It definitely feels like an able-bodied person made it up thinking they were doing us a solid. But hiding our disabilities under an able-bodied title is really gross. It's a different form of erasure, our disabilities aren't bad, they won't hurt you, why you gotta hide them on a mislabeled shelf?

As I saw many people mention already, the words 'disabled' and 'disability' do not have negative connotations, and I believe that it should be brought to light rather than using other verbiage that comes off as more patronizing. I don't feel limitless in what I am able to do, and I feel that being able to showcase the impact I can make with what I'm given in life rather than trying to show something I don't have is much better.

Disability and disabled are not negative words, and trying to hide these words with good intentions tragically misses the mark. While it's great to highlight disabled creators' capacity to defy expectations, it would be even greater to highlight disability and disability pride.

How about “Disability Pride Shelf” or something like that?

I'm not "limitless." My disabilities DO in fact limit me. Please rename the shelf to be less patronizing and more clear.

It does feel kind of patronizing and unclear. I personally would prefer if disabled was just a neutral descriptor and not shied away from.

I'm so proud of all the Disabled Creators chosen to be in the shelf but will admit the first time I saw the name I bristled.
Twitch, please just use the word "disabled" or "disability". Something like, "Together for Disabled Perseverance" would even work and match a similar tone to other shelves.

agreed! please change the title to something like “together with disabled/disability” & a very kind descriptive work akin to the lengendary women & Black brilliance shelves. “limitless talent” is not a shelf title that is representing us in a celebratory manner that clearly highlights that we’re disabled, as i’m sure might have been the intention but it def falls flat and does indeed feel infantilizing. we are disabled & that is not a dirty word. i hope twitch will listen & adjust the title to better celebrate us disabled creators!

Yeah, I’m honored to be included in the shelf, but I was unsure of how to feel about the name choice. I agree that it feels infantilizing, and would much rather prefer a more clear name, even if it’s just something like “Disabled Creators”. Limitless Talent just feels like a way to not say disabled, imo. It’s okay to say disabled. I’m proud to be disabled!
