Remove mid-roll ads
Cancel the testing of mid-roll ads on affiliate and partner channels. Your viewer base doesn't want this and creators don't want ads playing out of their control interrupting their content
As we announced on Twitter earlier, we have concluded the mid-rolls experiment. Thank you all for your comments and the incredible momentum you’ve contributed to this topic.
There have been many great suggestions, both in this thread and in the Ads forum that we have taken back to the team for consideration. It’s important to know that ads are essential to the future of Twitch, however we want to make things as painless as possible. Please still upvote, share, comment, and create new ideas in this forum so that we may continue to benefit from all of your passionate influence.
Adverts in the middle of LIVE content doesn't work. It's not like TV where you don't miss out. Imagine it like football, they don't put ADS in the middle of a game, then you miss a goal or something important etc. Use your brains. How could people sit in a meeting and not think about such basic stuff?
Stupid f***ing idea get it gone
ads restarted stream over is a wast
Midroll ads **** all over the entire point of twitch existing. A shared experience in real time builds community. If half the viewers are getting removed from that experience at random times for ads, it doesn't work.
This is the worst idea since i use Twitch.
This ads are horrible, they appear in the middle of any stram without content creators being able to have control about that.
You can lose the best part of a stream for an add you have seen a hundred times and you don't want to watch.
I guess the problem is streamers don't usually launch ads, so Twitch is trying to force them, but it's not worth for anyone. Streamers will lose viewers if an ad appears in a bad moment, viewers will be bored about this and leave too, and twitch will lose content creators and users if this feature is launched.
You want streamers to launch more ads? Make it worth it to launch them, reward them for doing this, or reward viewers for wathing them (with points, for example, or fixing the bits per ad worlwide).
And yes, creators have an option to launch an add and be free for random mid-roll ones for a time, but a really short time. You have revenue from ads, subs, bits, etc. I think is not necesary to destroy the platform with this kind of features. Put ads in VODs if you want, where viewers don't lose content, but not on live streams...
I don't care about the whole "keeping the platform free" situation. You earn more than enough money from subs alone to do stupid deals with the likes of Ninja, Pokimane and co so instead of doing deals like that how about you save that money you say is needed to keep the platform free, for, you know, just that, KEEPING IT FREE.
NEVER take control over the stream away from a content creator. Period.
- A Twitch partner who feels like it's not much of a partnership.
Don't become the TV, thank you.
There are entire categories of streams that rely on uninterrupted audio. ASMR streams, storytelling streams, whisper streams, and streams where the entire userbase is expected to go to sleep during the stream. The inability of the streamer to control where those ads go would ruin those streams. Even in other categories the issue of missed content, subscriber ad perks and audio-balancing, adverts coming up during very difficult topics such as mental health chat or during something dramatic in an irl stream is huge.
Mid-roll ads are a money grab. I don't want my viewers missing out on my content so they can hear Travis Scott's McDonald's order for the 100th time. Think of a better solution Twitch.
Mid-show ads in non-scripted content is really bad. Nobody wants a fantastic moment of a stream to be stolen from them because of an ad.
Im doing my part #noadsinmastream
Cancel the testing and use of mid-roll ads on affiliate and partner streams unless said partner or affiliate specifically and clearly chooses to
Please, it’s very frustrating
This ruins the content. Whoever thought this was a decent idea has no connection with how Twitch works. Likely some marketer or something that works for cable companies. But unlike cable companies, these aren't planned to sync with the content. Doesn't work for live TV. Or if you are going to do it, do it as sports do. Make it a sidebar or something. Unlike many I don't mind ads to keep stuff free, but this is just absurd and ruins the experience.
Forcing people to see ads at random times has a negative impact on the overall experience, especially when the broadcaster has no control over when they are running.
Also, now even subscribers are being forced to view ads, both midroll and preroll with ad-free viewing turned on.
Forcing ads on a YT video's is allright because the content stops. Not on twitch.
But forcing ads on veiwers makes them feel extremely alienated and most of streamers have low veiwership and by forcing ads your crushing smaller streamers!
I'm too small to make money out of anything other than subscriptions. I'm going to tell my viewers to just turn on ad-blockers. If you wanna take my affiliate and birthday away for that, be my guest.
