Keep Moments
Moments is a feature that Twitch released as a Beta to a handful of creators. Whenever something cool happened in your stream, you could give out a "Moment" to those who were there to witness it. Twitch just announced they are discontinuing it as of October. I'm writing this to ask you to reconsider.
The Moment was a clip that was created when you gave the command, and allowed for some minor editing. Anyone who claimed the moment would also receive a badge, and the more moments you claimed, the more your badge evolved over time. You could even click on someone's badge to see what moments they were there for.
As a creator, I was part of the Beta for Moments. This was an INCREDIBLE tool for engaging my audience. Most of the time, the Moments were for small little silly things that happened, but it allowed for my audience members who maybe couldn't afford to sub or cheer to showcase their loyalty to the stream by having a badge that said "I'm here for all the moments." The irony of the strength of this feature was that it wasn't really for "The Moment" you were there, but for combination of all the small little moments you got to share.
Growing on Twitch is about engaging your audience and giving them reasons to come back. Moments allowed viewers who tuned in for the day the chance at "being there" for something cool. It created an opportunity for people to stick around more and watch more of my content.
Anytime something cool happened my audience would say "MOMENT?," and so much so that I made an emote for the very thing. The emote ranked #1 in both my channel and outside my channel since it's creation for me.
It's failure as a feature is rooted in
- The Beta was too limited. Not enough people who could benefit from it were given the chance to use it.
- There was not a lot of push from Twitch to help creators understand why the feature is so good.
- The feature needed more feedback to shape it into something truly special.
Imagine having the badge and also attaching an Emote slot to Certain Tiers. Imagine having more options to really edit the clips so that you could really encompass the Moment. Imagine having MORE MOMENTS to give out so you could be more free with giving them out.
The reason it was cut was "limited use by the community" and that they would strive to "Create features that bring value to streamers"
Moments IS that feature. The badge is such a cool function. You don't need to make it compete with Featured Clips, in fact just having them on the viewer's profile under the badge is enough.
Please reconsider axing this and please actually reach out for feedback to those of us who get access to these Beta Features.

moments are an amazing tool for the few creators that got the tool and for smaller content creators it really engages the viewers and makes them want to come back and enjoy the stream even more.

Moments are super fun and help me filter through a streamer's top clips. I can see the coolest parts and it's great when I get to have a little badge indicating I was there.

Moments are a great way for chat to become invested and discuss among themselves along with the streamer. I tcan also allow streamers to see active viewers, dates and specific content for said fans.

Getting rid of moments would be the dumbest moment of all.

The irony of saying a feature wasn't popular enough when only a very small fraction of people got into the beta, lmao

Moments have been for chat engagement and great stream content in the streams I hang out in that have taken advantage of the feature. With an expansion of this feature and resources about how communities might be able to use it effectively, it can become a great, popular feature that can coexist and complement featured clips

I like that I get rewarded for being active in streams and chats, and I think it's REALLY cool that we can revisit moments from the past regardless of if we were there or not. Please keep moments

I'm a mod for ~20 streamers. Almost all didn't even know about Moments, much less if they were in the beta for it. This is a problem of Twitch not getting the information out, not a lack of interest for Moments in general.
This announcement would be a great opportunity to advertise and expand Moments to all streamers, not shut them down.

This is a GREAT feature that makes me excited to be in streams. It increases excitement. I genuinely ENJOY getting the moment. Let channels modify and edit moments into clips. It's a MASS clip engine that builds content and gives creators perfect tools to increase engagement EVERYWHERE.

Moments should stick around. Why? Because when you are apart of one say "Streamer does 1v4 for a Warzone Victory" or "Does a Personal Best in a speedrun/challenge" is amazing. You then as a viewer can brag that you were there when the streamer achieved a goal. That then gives a FOMO feeling to other people and it starts to show how much you watch the streamer.

Moments are one of (if not the) best feature to have ever been added to twitch. Scrolling through all the tweets, it's very apparent that almost everyone falls in one of 3 categories: A Loved and used moments either a lot or occasionally (both which in my opinion is an equally good use of the feature); B Didn't have them and wanted them; C Didn't know they existed.
I know just going through the tweets will give a somewhat tainted perspective on the matter, but I really struggled to find a single comment from someone who knew about the feature but was indifferent about it. That in my opinion still says a ton!
As someone who spends probably upwards of 8+ hours every day on twitch from a viewer perspective, I can assure you that I have not experienced any other twitch feature which had this amount of people excited about it. People asked for moments, people stuck around longer than they would because they wanted to be there for moments, people were actively finding out whether they missed a moment or not and got upset if they had just switched from desktop to mobile and missed the moment because of it.
The reason why moments were so good is because rarely ever do we get features added to twitch anymore that aren't very directly aimed at having people open their wallets. Yes, if you try to measure how much moments make for twitch you'll probably not find any stats that suggest they're valuable for that reason. But they're in fact amazing: Moments and moment badges finally gave a passionate viewer who might not want or can't afford to subscribe all the time feel like they're getting some form of recognition for their dedication. They keep them more engaged, making sure they come back and stick around and most importantly engage with the communities they're associated with.
Instead of removing moments, consider improving them and making them more accessible:
1. Give more people access (who would have guessed that someone who seeks out to have this feature might use it more than a streamer who was randomly selected, got maybe one e-mail about having access which they never read and then just continued their streams as usual)
2. Give streamers the ability to adjust the associated clip later on (It's very frequent that by the time you realize you should make this a moment the actual 'moment' is already not going to be part of the clip anymore, which discourages them from pressing the moment button. By letting them adjust the clip later on this would become a non-issue)
3. Consider extending the feature to make it more meaningful. A badge is already cool, but an amazing commonly discussed idea I have seen is to give channels moment-badge-emotes. Basically give streamers additional emote-slots that viewers can unlock by getting a high-tier moments badge on their channel. Can you imagine how many people would be excited about moments if they could unlock a couple special emotes by being a dedicated viewer? I can.
4. Make moment distribution better/more consistent. It's very common for people who were actively watching and chatting to somehow still miss out on the pop-up that lets them claim their moment. Sometimes they get the moment hours later, but other times it's just gone, which is a shame.
5. Give streamers a way to have more than 5 moments/month. A ton of streamers put a lot of hours into streaming and for them 5 moments is often not enough, it's in fact so few that I know a ton of streamers who either got very picky with what they want to make a moment or they couldn't make a good moment a moment because they had already ran out of moments for the month. Rather than giving just 5 moments flat, consider letting channels choose from a selection, where choosing fewer or more moments per month will also adjust the moment-badge-tier progression, so that a channel with just 5 moments/month max won't have significantly less high-tier moments-badge holders compared to a 15 moments/month channel.
So now that you know why moments are great and what still needs to be improved about them. Please twitch, don't kill the one good feature you added in the past 4 years.

Moments are one of the best features and if they are underused it's because there's poor communication around the feature and a limited rollout. I mod for a streamer who had no idea they even had the feature; I literally had to spend a moment to show them.
Instead of axing this you should deploy them to MORE STREAMERS and BETTER EXPLAIN what they are and how they work.

I really like moments! Why would you get rid of this feature? It's just fun, keeps people around, why remove it? Why would you make your service less fun to be on?

Moments are so much fun as both a streamer and a viewer. I was devastated to read when I woke up that they were removing the feature. I hope that they will take back this decision. I think they can even be integrated with featured clips if you could edit moments more!

Moments shouldn't be stopped. They should be expanded. Being in streams that have access to them have allowed for some really funny things to happen between the streamer and the chat. Lot of memes that I can even spread into other chats and the streamer picks up on it. Don't get rid of this feature!

Removing moments is a momentous mistake and would be a sad moment in the history of Twitch. Keeping moments encourages viewers to stay around and leave the stream up even during moments they aren't actively watching because the streamer might give out a moment at any moment.
Moments also let viewers show their support for streamers in chat without having to have a sub at the moment. With the greater focus on momentary ad breaks, encouraging viewers to stick around for moments gets more viewership for the ads as well, which gets the streamer more money every moment they play ads.
