[MERGED] Bring back colored /me chat messages + Update the /me command to color chat messages FOR MODS/BROADCASTER ROLES ONLY
Or at least give streamers the authority to enable or disable it. But the ENTIRE point was how it stood out with color. Plain black with italics just renders it useless.
Hey all,
Thank you for the patience with us on this. This has been one of the most popular ideas on UserVoice and we definitely heard your feedback.
Today we launched /announcement for mods and streamers. Announcements can be used in chat to highlight a message and are available in 4 different colors along with the channel accent color. Because this is only part of the ask of this idea we are setting this idea to partial release so the community can continue to leave feedback on this.

You can't take down a feature just because a bot used it a couple times. They've been using twitch features for years. If people are getting trolled with a simple color change, they need more online awareness before signing up to an online platform. /me is integrated into so many streamer commands that streamers want to showcase. Why not instead of taking it away, make it better! Let the streamer do whatever color they want. Let people change their color in various ways with twitch points etc. I've never personally heard of a single person who actually got trolled by a /me ..just saying.

I only support the full restoration of the /me chat command. Anything less is the community giving in to this stupid decision.
We should never be happy with a compromise when we are used to the full service.
I would go further that this change is clearly demonstrated to not achieve its stated goal, as trolls still get to post.
The Twitch staff responsible need to go before Twitch can claim that it listens to the wider community - these staffers can never again be trusted to have Twitch's community at heart when they fail at Amazon's mission statement...

Bring back the /me in color! The way it looks now just gives me a major headache and really hurts my eyes. I dont know who asked for this and why you decided to make it a priority over the many other issues that actually need your attention. DO BETTER TWITCH!

The colors are easier for me to see which is also why I have dark mode on because I am prone to migraines. The current change with no colors and italics makes it really hard to see and is very rough on my eyes. I would really like the option to toggle it. The colors are fun and it also makes it easier for me to figure out which message are from my mods and which are our community members in chat.

The original "/me" command was a fun feature that allowed for moderators like myself to better interact and have fun with chat. It also allowed for us to ensure that things we really wanted chat to take notice of would be seen. Now we've been stripped of yet another great feature. When used inappropriately, it was quite obvious and easily deleted and the offender banned from the channel. Simple as that. Why fix what isn't broken? The way it works now, it's taken the fun out of the feature. How am I supposed to devour chat when they try to steal my coffee now? Twitch, you've ruined /me. peepoSadRain

Now /me messages blend in with the 𝘧𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘪𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘤 𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘤𝘰𝘥𝘦 𝘭𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 and as others have pointed out, are harder to read.
"/me" designates an action, which is why the color is the same as the name and there is no colon between the username and the text - there is no chat message. It should not be black/white, it should be the same color as the username.
It makes bot commands WAY less readable, and makes those messages blend into the mess of the rest of chat.
To me, this is on par with changing the style of hyperlinks to be not underlined and the same color as chat text. Why would you? Was there some big movement to do this and you didn't even consider the other side of the issue? Didn't consider accessibility issues? Didn't even consider that the new design LOOKS TERRIBLE?
Please go fix actual broken things with the site.

The biggest issue with this change, and I saw it used as an example in a stream chat last night, is how easy it’ll be for any random user to make it look like a bot or mod command. If you don’t look carefully at who’s talking in chat, your brain sees the italics and thinks “oh that’s a mod,” but it’s not going to be anymore. It’s also extremely ******* the eyes, and much less of a community experience. One community I’m in likes the colors because we can use it to make “mermaid chat” but now we just get migraines from looking at it all night.

I reside with those that would like this available for everyone. Asking Twitch bring it back as mods/broadcaster only is asking them to do the bare minimum without acknowledging they did something no one asked for.
Any abuse I saw as broadcaster/moderator/viewer was never often enough compared to how frequent this was used for non-troll reasons. Instead we should expect that Twitch would IMPROVE auto-mod and other tools by raising auto mod alert when someone uses certain terms with a /me message (which is super easy to do by the way).
As for those rare people saying this was a correct decision, it was not. Yes, /me can describe an action, in which many cases it was used for that. I fail to see where /me existence encourages misuse of it. Make it terrible for everyone so trolls don't wanna use it? News flash, you just punish everyone by taking away a feature while the trolls are happy enough to continue sending those messages you have not actually prevented them from sending, only stylizing. You didn't implement a solution.
Implementing a solution would be to improve auto mod and allow streamers and mods to not just ban terms but phrases as well that utilize wildcards. Ex. "Donat*" where the wild card would catch "e", "ing", "ed", "tions".
I can't think of a SINGLE reason to fight for /me to stay removed versus expecting Twitch to actually do more of a job.

The original "/me" command was good, it was in color, it was easy to notice. Sure, there are probably and most likely people who would abuse it and make confusion in chat but, do you, Twitch staff, really think that changing easily noticeable text into italic black text was a good idea? Honestly it's harder to know that it's important, you would miss it for sure because it barely differs from the rest of the chat. Why couldn't you have simply changed it so that the "/me" command could be used by moderators and broadcasters only? Maybe VIP too, it's just way better idea that whatever this update was meant to fix... Hope you listen to people's feedback and realize you've made a mistake, with regards, me.

The coloured messages were so fun! It was great when I had a rainbow in my chat! The italics is awful and is too much like the when a mod bans someone or deletes there message and the vibe just isn't right! For those streamer who don't want the coloured messages that's fine there is the option the ban it in chat settings or create a toggle to turn it on and off!

Please allow mods to use this! For clarity of bot messages, and also important announcements.
I understand how it's been misused for fake 'donation' messages, however, if people are fooled by that, it's just as likely they'll also be fooled by italics? Or failing that they'd just use highlighted channel point messages, or even normal chat messages to try to convince the streamer. I get that the change is coming from a good place to attempt to stop abuse, but I'm struggling to see how it actually will. It seems like the real answer would be educating streamers better on common trolling tactics.
Italics do not stand out in chat for bot commands, or important moderation messages. Even when the colours were on, these were often missed. Most streamers give their bots mod privileges, so allowing all mods to use it would cover both bases.
Also from a streamer standpoint, when looking at my own chat, seeing coloured messages allowed me to mentally 'filter out' messages that were from my bot when chatting to my community. Now when I glance at chat, it's much less clear.

I'd love to have the option to toggle it. But I'd prefer to have a special thing such as /bot to dedicate to my bot messages. It could also just be /i (for italic) or /b (for bold or something like this. It would make chat a lot more customizable. And you could set it to only moderators and admin can use that stuff.

This is an incredible feature for raids, you have no idea how hype it is when a raid drops and the raiding message comes in all kinds of colors :(
This change is incredibly silly, please reverse.
